Introduction

Cync Tunable White smart LED bulbs can be used to replace conventional lightbulbs with tunable white light and improved control. These general- purpose bulbs alter the white tone from warm to cool to deliver the ideal white light for every room. These bulbs change from a warm, tranquil light at night to a crisp, lively light in the morning in accordance with your sleep/wake cycle. You can now group your lights together, make settings and schedules, and dim and brighten your bulbs. For voice control outside of the home, pair the C by GE smart plug or smart switch with Amazon Alexa or the Google Assistant.

INSTALLING YOUR LIGHT STRIP

    • Based on the length needed, either trim or extend (light strip extension sold separately).

IF YOU TRIM:

  • Make sure the strip is not plugged in at the wall when cutting.
  • Only trim the strip where shown on image below. Other areas will permanently damage the strip.
  • The part that is cut from the strip is no longer usable.
  • Once the strip is trimmed, you will not be able to connect the extension.

IF YOU EXTEND:

  • Make sure the strip is not plugged in at the wall prior to attaching extension.
  • Remove plastic cover from end to link strips.
  • Light strip can be extended up to 32 ft.
  • When using the connectors, arrows must be aligned with the top of the strip to ensure the extension is connected correctly.‎GE-Lighting-93096436-Smart-Light-Bulbs-user-manual-img-3

  • Clean and dry the surface where you are installing the light strip.
  • Peel off tape from the back of the light strip.
  • Stick to surface. Press and hold for at least 10 seconds to firmly adhere the strip to the surface. Repeat this every 6 inches to ensure the entire length of the strip has adhered to the surface.
  • NOTE: Adhesive may damage walls or painted surfaces if removed.

SET UP YOUR C BY GE SMART LIGHTS

If you want to set up your C by GE lights directly to the Google Home app (not using the C by GE app) follow these Made For Google set up instructions.

If you want to set up your C by GE lights with the C by GE app and link to the Google Home app, follow these instructions:

IMPORTANT: One of your connected C by GE devices must be a C by GE Wi-Fi device in order to enable Google control. Our Wi-Fi devices include the Smart Plug, Smart Switch or C-Reach.

  1. Plug in your light strips or install your C by GE light bulbs in the sockets that will be powering them. Make sure they are within 40 feet of each other*.
  2. Turn on all the lights you are adding to the app. Light strips will automatically turn on when plugged in.
  3. Open the C by GE app
  4. Tap the plus (+) icon in the top right corner
  5. Select “Add New Devices”
  6. Select “Lights”
  7. Any lights that connect to the app will blink 3 times.
  8. If you receive a prompt to use the Google Home app, you have two choices:
    • Continue with the C by GE app = this means you will control your lights with the C by GE app. If you want to enable Google, you can do this with the Works With Google setup.
    • Open Google Home app = this means you will set up and control your lights with the Google Home app (C by GE app not needed). If you choose this path, you will follow the Made For Google set up.
  9. Complete setup with the instructions prompted by the C by GE app.

ENABLE OUT-OF-HOME CONTROL FOR C BY GE

SMART LIGHTS

Control your C by GE smart lights from anywhere. Because our smart lights are connected to the C by GE app through Bluetooth, you will need to set up a C by GE Wi-Fi device to enable out-of-home control.

C BY GE WI-FI DEVICES:

  • Smart Plug
  • Smart Switch
  • C-Reach Smart Bridge

Control your C by GE smart lights with your voice using an Alexa Voice Assistant.

IMPORTANT: One of your connected C by GE devices must be a C by GE Wi-Fi device in order to enable Alexa control. Our Wi-Fi devices include the Smart Plug, Smart Switch or C-Reach Smart Bridge.

First, connect your C by GE devices to the C by GE app.

If this is your first time setting up C by GE devices with Alexa:

  1. If you haven’t already, set up your devices in the C by GE app
  2. Open the Alexa app
  3. Tap the menu icon in the top left corner
  4. Select “Skills & Games”
  5. Tap the search icon and type in “C by GE”
  6. Select the C by GE skill and tap “Enable to use”
  7. Enter your C by GE account login information
  8. Next, you will be prompted to Discover Devices. Tap “Discover Devices” button
  9. Alexa will discover your C by GE devices, and now you can start controlling them! You can use the Alexa app to add them to rooms, create routines, and more.

If you have previously set up C by GE devices with Alexa and want to add more:

  1. If you haven’t already, set up your device in the C by GE app.
  2. Check your devices page in the Alexa app. If you see your device listed, you’re done! Most of the time, Alexa automatically discovers your new C by GE devices within 30 seconds of completing setup.
  3. If you do not see your new device listed, simply say, “Alexa, discover devices.”

ALEXA VOICE COMMANDS FOR LIGHTING

Light the way you live with your voice! Control your C by GE Smart Lights with Amazon Alexa.

When addressing your lights with voice, you can say “lights,” the name of the room your lights are in (for example, Living Room) or the name you assigned your lights.

Here are some voice commands to get you started.

BRIGHTNESS (ALL C BY GE LIGHTS)

  • Alexa, dim lights to 50%. [options: up to 100%]
  • Alexa, set lights to 25%. [options: up to 100%]
  • Alexa, make lights brighter.
  • Alexa, make lights dimmer.

COLOR TEMPERATURE (C BY GE TUNABLE WHITE AND FULL COLOR LIGHTS ONLY)

  • Alexa, set lights to soft white. [options: cool white, bright white]
  • Alexa, set lights to candlelight. [this is a PM setting]
  • Alexa, set lights to white. [this is an AM setting].
  • Other options: Cool, Warm, Relax, Daytime White, Sunset.

ENABLE GOOGLE FOR YOUR SMART LIGHTS

If you are setting up your C by GE lights directly to the Google Home app (not using the C by GE app) follow these Made For Google set up instructions.

If you are setting up your C by GE lights with the C by GE app and linking to the Google Home app, follow these instructions:

If you are new to C by GE and Google Home:

  1. Set up your C by GE devices in the C by GE app.
    IMPORTANT: One of your connected C by GE devices must be a C by GE Wi-Fi device in order to enable Google control. Our Wi-Fi devices include the Smart Plug, Smart Switch or C-Reach.

  2. Download the Google Home app

  3. Tap the Add (+ icon)

  4. Select “Set up device”

  5. Select “Works with Google – Have something already set up?”

  6. Type “C by GE” in the search bar and select “C by GE”

  7. Enter your C by GE account login information. This will link your C by GE and Google Home account.

  8. Google Home will identify and display the C by GE devices you have connected to your C by GE app. If you have more than one, you will set up each device one at a time. Select the first and follow the steps in-app. Continue until all C by GE devices are setup.

If you have previously set up C by GE devices with the C by GE and Google Home app, and want to add more:

  1. If you haven’t already, set up your device in the C by GE app.
  2. Open the Google Home app:
  • IPHONE USERS:
  • Tap the Add (+ icon)
  • Select “Set up device”
  • Select “Works with Google – Have something already set up?”
  • Under “Linked,” tap “C by GE”
  • Select “Check for new devices”
  • ANDROID USERS:
  • Scroll to the “Linked to you” category towards the bottom of the homepage. Your new C by GE devices should be listed.
  1. Tap your new devices to set up

GOOGLE ASSISTANT VOICE COMMANDS FOR LIGHTING

When addressing your lights with voice, you can say “lights,” the name of the room your lights are in (for example, Living Room) or the name you assigned your lights.

Other options: Daylight, Warm White, Incandescent.

ENABLE HOMEKIT FOR YOUR SMART LIGHTS

To enable HomeKit for your C by GE smart lights, you will need a C-Reach. Make sure to first, write down the 8-digit HomeKit setup code (xxx-xx-xxx) on the back of the C-Reach. You will need this number for set up.

First, set up your C-Reach and C by GE lights in C by GE app.

Next, follow these instructions to enable HomeKit:

  1. Open C by GE app and go to Settings
  2. Select “HomeKit & Siri”
  3. Tap the (plus +) icon in the top right corner.
  4. Select “Add Accessories”
  5. Make sure to reference the HomeKit setup code on the back of the C-Reach. Once you are ready, press Continue.
  6. Either scan the back label of the C-Reach or hold your iPhone near the back label. If you do not scan, you will be prompted to type in the HomeKit setup code. This is an 8-digit code on the back of the C-Reach (xxx-xx-xxx)
  7. Select the accessory
  8. Once connected, tap “Next,” then tap “Next” as C by GE bulbs are identified.

BRIGHTNESS & COLOR CONTROL

Control the brightness and color of your C by GE smart lights at the Room Level or by each Individual Light.

TYPES OF C BY GE SMART LIGHTS:

Soft White bulbs (C-Life) = control brightness

Tunable White bulbs (C-Sleep) = control brightness and color temperature

Full Color bulbs & light strips = control brightness, color temperature and full color Instructions:

  1. Go to the Home Screen of the C by GE app
  2. Select either the Room your lights are in or the individual light you want to control

CONTROL BRIGHTNESS

ROOM LEVEL CONTROL

After selecting the Room, at the top of the screen, slide the dot on the brightness bar to dim and brighten your lights.

INDIVIDUAL LIGHT CONTROL

Either on the Home Screen or within a Room, select the Individual Device. Tap the (sun) icon and slide the dot on the bar to the left to dim, or to the right to brighten the individual light

CONTROL COLOR  ROOM LEVEL CONTROL

After selecting the Room, at the top of the screen, tap “Select a Mood” and use the color wheel to select the color you want.

INDIVIDUAL LIGHT CONTROL

  1. Either on the Home Screen or within a Room, select the Individual Device. Tap the circle icon of the light you want to control. Use the color wheel to select the color you want.

SAVING YOUR FAVORITE COLOR

  1. Tap on any area in the color wheel to select a color.
  2. Tap the (plus +) icon under “My Colors.”
  3. The color you selected will be added to the list of saved colors.

DELETE SAVED COLORS

Next to “My Colors,” tap on “Edit”

IOS USERS:

  • Tap the “ – “ icon next to the color you want to delete.
  • Tap “Delete”

ANDROID USERS:

Tap the Trash icon next to the color you want to delete.

REORDER SAVED COLORS

Next to “My Colors,” tap on “Edit”

IOS USERS:

Long press the 3 lines icon on the right to reorder.

ANDROID USERS:

Long press the 2 lines icon on the left to reorder.

FAQs

Someone responded these work with Alexa only with extra Wi-Fi product; amazon.com says that these work with my echo show (with ZigBee). clarification?****

The C by GE smart home lights work with any Alexa device as long as there is a Wi-Fi bridge or hub for the lights to connect to. These receive commands via Bluetooth only.

Can I connect this straight to apple home kit or will I need some sort of hub?****

I have a google nest mini, Can I turn these off from just the google home app without a smart plug?****

The mini acts as a hub so it should be able to control the lights with just voice. If you have any further questions reach out to our support team.

No, they are 120v 60Hz and currently licensed for use in USA and Canada only.

can I have it auto change colors?****

Unfortunately, our bulbs do not allow the option to change automatically.

In which country it is made/manufactured /assembled or of origin in?****

All C by GE products are designed in the USA and manufactured in China.

These bulbs do not stay connected?****

These bulbs in particular run based on Bluetooth exclusively. If you would like these to always be controllable, even out of home, you should look into our Direct Connect products. If you have at least one Direct Connect product in your home and all the other devices are within Bluetooth range of at least one other Cync device, they will all have a connection to your network!

Your description talks about combining with a smart plug. What would that look like? When would I need the plug?****

you won’t actually need the plug unless you’re intending to use the bulbs in conjunction with Alexa, or if you want out of home control. But from there, all you would need to do is add both of the devices to the app. The plug will automatically change your location into a Wi-Fi location (changing from the default BLE) which will allow for the out of home control.

Can this be programmed to transition colors every few seconds?****

I think that there is a version of these lights that have colors + white, that can be switched to a Party Scene that YOU create. I have two plain white lights over my garage but I want two of the color lights for my back yard. I Highly recommend these lights because they are Bluetooth and do not depend on any Wi-Fi. They sync with each other. I’m trashing 4 WINK lights because they are Hot, burn out and use too much power. You will really like the C by GE lights.

I have an Alexa in home, does it work if I only by the lightbulb or I need something else? like the plug or something?****

To use any of our bulbs with Alexa you will need one of our Wi-Fi equipped products which include our Smart Plug, C-Reach, or one of our Smart Switches. The Wi-Fi products double use as a hub for our bulbs and once they are all added to the C by GE app, you will need to enable the Alexa skill to use them with Alexa.

The lights are not intended for use outside of the U.S. and Canada. The voltage for the bulb should not exceed 120v.

You would want to check with the retailer that you purchased the product through for their return policy.

Have not received refund but item been returned 10days ago what do can I do?****

I recently returned some unneeded items; it took 17 days from the date UPS delivered to them, for me to get the refund notification.
