  • Do not use the tool with worn or dirty cutting tools. Only suitable cutting tools should be used. Blunt or unsuitable cutting tools can get caught on something easily and lead to a loss of control over the tool.
  • Use the tool and its accessories only for the specified purpose and in accordance with these original operating instructions. Also pay attention to the working conditions and the task that you plan to carry out. Improper use can lead to hazardous situations.
  • Only use accessories and attachments that are compatible with the slots on the device.
  • Never attempt to switch off safety mechanisms.
  • Do not use the appliance on wet materials.
  • Switch the appliance off immediately if the drive becomes blocked.
  • Keep the handles and surfaces of the tool dry, clean and free of oil or lubricants. Slipping during opera-tion leads to a loss of control and accidents.
  • Hold the tool firmly. A sudden stop of the drive transfers the kinetic energy to the tool itself. This may cause the tool to fall out of your hands – risk of injury!
  • Condensation may form when the product is brought from a cold room into a warm one (e.g. during transportation). This can damage the product! For this reason, allow the product to warm up to room temperature before using it or inserting the battery. This may take several hours.

Safety warnings for battery-powered tools

Workstation safety

  • Keep your workstation clean. Keep the work area well lit. A disorganised workstation or poor lighting can cause accidents.
  • Keep children and other people away from the workstation! Distractions can cause accidents.
  • Ensure that your working area is well ventilated.
  • Never use the product next to or near flammable liquids or gases, air/gas mixtures (petrol vapours) or flammable solids/dust. Sparks may be generated when the product is used – risk of fire or explosion!

Specific safety instructions for jigsaws

  • Always hold the jigsaw by the insulated handles. The saw blade could come into contact with hidden power lines or the mains cable and energise the metal parts of the saw. Danger of electric shock!
  • Hold the jigsaw in place with both hands during use to ensure controlled handling.
  • Keep body parts away from the saw blade during operation.
  • Never touch the moving saw blade. Risk of injury! The saw blade will continue to move for a short period after the appliance is switched off.
  • Never reach under the workpiece while working. Your hands could get into the running saw blade pro-truding from the workpiece and sustain injury.
  • Before putting the saw down, wait until the drive has come to a complete standstill.
  • The saw base surface must always rest firmly on the workpiece when you are working.
  • Always fix the workpiece in place with suitable means. Never hold the workpiece in your hands or resting on your legs.
  • Sawing materials that contain asbestos may generate dust dangerous to your health. Comply with gov-ernment regulations and manufacturer recommendations.
  • If you need to restart the jigsaw inside the workpiece after an interruption, make sure that the saw blade has not or is not about to become jammed.

Residual risks
This appliance complies with technical regulations and relevant safety regulations. However, the following may still occur during use:

  1. Fold up the protective cover (8).
  2. Slide up the lock around the saw blade holder (12).
  3. Insert the saw blade (10) with the teeth facing forwards into the slot of the saw blade holder (12) as far as it will go.
  4. When inserting the saw blade, ensure that the back of the saw blade rests in the groove of the supporting roller (6).TOOLCRAFT 2489339 Cordless Jigsaw AST-65 5
  5. Release the lock around the saw blade holder (12) to lock the saw blade in place.
  6. Check that the saw blade (10) is securely seated before starting work by pulling on the saw blade (10). It must not come out of the saw blade holder (12).
  7. Fold down the protective cover (8) again.
  8. To remove the saw blade, slide the lock around the saw blade holder (12) upwards. The saw blade will be released and can then be removed.

Inserting/removing the battery

1. Slide the battery (5) into the battery compartment until it clicks into place.
2. To remove the battery, press the battery release button (4).
3. Then pull the battery (5) out of the battery compartment.

Mounting and adjusting the rip fence
The rip fence makes it possible to guide the jigsaw cleanly along a workpiece edge. It can be attached to both sides.

  1. Slightly loosen the locking screw for the rip fence (7).
  2. Slide the rip fence into the rip fence guide (9) in the sliding shoe (14).
  3. Set the desired distance to the workpiece edge using the markings on the sliding shoe (14).
  4. Retighten the locking screw for the rip fence (7). This screw can be screwed in on both sides of the sliding shoe (14).

Connecting a dust extraction system
In order to avoid dust from entering the respiratory tract and to prevent an unclean workplace, a dust ex-traction system should always be used. A household vacuum cleaner, a wet-dry vacuum or a professional dust extraction system can be connected for this purpose.

  1. Insert the adapter for the dust extraction into the corresponding socket (15) on the device.
  2. Connect the suction hose of your dust extraction system to the connection on the adapter.

Operation

Adjusting the cutting angle

  1. Move the sliding shoe release lever (1) forwards.
  2. Slide the sliding shoe (14) forwards slightly to release the locking mechanism.
  3. Set the desired cutting angle. The angle is shown on a scale on the sliding shoe (14) and can be set in 15° steps within a range of +/- 45°.
  4. Push the sliding shoe (14) backwards again until it clicks into the groove that corresponds to the angle setting.
  5. Move the sliding shoe release lever (1) backwards again to secure the sliding shoe (14) in place.

TOOLCRAFT 2489339 Cordless Jigsaw AST-65 6

Setting the pendulum stroke
Set the desired pendulum stroke with the pendulum stroke adjustment lever (13):

  • “Exact” position > pendulum stroke switched off
  • Position 1 > low pendulum stroke
  • Position 2 > medium pendulum stroke
  • Position 3 > maximum pendulum stroke

The pendulum stroke causes a pendulum movement of the saw blade. The smaller the pendulum stroke, the cleaner the cut. A larger pendulum stroke means faster cutting progress, but the edge of the cut is not as clean.
When sawing thin workpieces or when cutting curves, do not set a pendulum stroke, or only set a low pendulum stroke.

Switching on/off and adjusting the stroke rate
During operation, the protective cover (8) must always be folded down.

  • Press and hold the switch lock (2) to the left or right.
  • Press the on/off switch (3) to turn on the jigsaw.
  • The more pressure you apply to the on/off switch (3), the faster the motor and the more strokes will be performed. This guarantees a highly sensitive control, as required at the beginning of the saw cut or for very precise cuts.
  • To turn off the jigsaw, simply release the on/off switch (3).

After starting the motor, the switch lock (2) can be released.
When the jigsaw is switched on, the LED light (6) lights up the cutting area.

Troubleshooting

No function, the saw cannot be switched on.

• The battery is depleted. Charge the battery using the corresponding charger.
• The battery is not correctly inserted into the slot on the appliance.

The saw blade does not move.

• Immediately switch off the jigsaw and disconnect the battery from the appliance.
• Check if a foreign object is blocking the saw blade.
• If necessary, remove the saw blade and/or remove the foreign object.

The saw cut is not clean and/or the edges of the cut are frayed.

• The saw blade is worn out or damaged and must be replaced.
• A saw blade that is unsuitable for the material or saw cut type was used.
• You put too much pressure on the saw when sawing. Try sawing with less forward pressure.
• Protect sensitive materials (e.g. coated chipboard) with adhesive tape. The adhesive tape prevents fraying at the cutting edge. A thin block of wood can also be cut at the same time to prevent fraying at the cutting edge.
• The pendulum stroke is set too high. Use a lower setting.

The vibration emission value stated in this manual was obtained using a standardised EN 62841 test pro-cedure. The result can be used to compare vibration levels of different electrical tools. It can also be used to obtain a preliminary estimate of your exposure to vibrations.

The specified value indicates the vibration level when the tool is used for its intended purpose. The actual vibration level may differ from the specified value if the tool is used for other purposes, if other tools are used, or if the tool has not been serviced properly. These factors can considerably increase your exposure.

For an accurate estimate of your exposure, account for the times when the appliance is switched off or not in use. These factors can considerably reduce your exposure.

Take additional safety measures to protect the user against the effects of vibration, e.g.: Maintenance of electric tool and insertion tools, keeping your hands warm, organisation of work processes.
