About ASSA Pando Mini reader

  • ASSA Pando Mini reader with pigtail will continue to be referred as Pando Mini or reader in this document.
  • Pando Mini is a Hi-O reader. By default the Pando Mini reads serial number on the cards but the reader can be configured for sector reading of MIFARE Classic, applications reading of MIFARE DESFire, iCLASS or SEOS. All configuration are made with a customer specific Setup card.

Hi-O Installation

  • Hi-O devices are easy to install, all devices are connected in parallel and just using four wires. Units on the Hi-O bus gets its supply voltage from the DAC 530, DAC564 or LCU9101.

Indications for Pando Mini

  • The reader has a green and a red LED, the function of these are described in the table below, during the various phases of configuration and operation.

Indications on startup

  • Green LED: Flash for up to 90 seconds, in one second intervals. The reader is waiting for a setup card. (The sequence can be interrupted with a common access card.)
  • Red LED (Not lit at startup): The reader is uninitialized at Hi-O bus, the reader is not locked to a specific Hi-O bus.
  • Red LED (Lit at startup): The reader is locked to a specific Hi-O bus, red indicates that the reader is locked and encrypted.
  • Buzzer: One beep at startup: Reader in (Default)
  • Buzzer: Two beeps at startup: Reader out

Indications in operation

  • Green LED: Lit when valid card is shown or at an unlocked door.
  • Red LED: Lit when invalid card in shown
  • Green flashing: Rapid flash and a three-second pause, the reader are offline from the Hi-O bus or not initialized to a DAC or a LCU.
  • Red flash: DAC offline from LCU

Calibration of the tamper indication on the Pando Mini

  • Pando Mini is provided with a position sensor that responds if the reader is moved from its memorized default position.
  • The reader learns its position during the first 5 seconds at start up, so make sure that the reader is placed in its final position where it will be installed when the reader is powered up. If the reader is moved from this position after the 5 seconds, a tamper alarm will be sent to the system.
  • If the reader is moved during the first 5 seconds at startup no default position will be stored and the tamper alarm will not work in the reader.
  • Calibration is done each time the reader starts up.

Change the Hi-O group In - > Out / Out -> in reader

The reader is supplied as an in reader, If you want to change it to an out reader, the configuration below needs to be done
The change must be made before the reader is locked in Hi-O bus.

  1. Place the reader upside down with the front toward you.
  2. Connect the power. (The reader is in configuration mode in 90 seconds)
  3. Show and hold any user card in front of the reader for at least 7 seconds.
  4. The reader will beep twice and flash with green LED twice. Remove the card from the reader, the reader is now an out reader. (If the card is kept for another five seconds, the reader will switch back to be an in reader, buzzer beep and green LED flash to indicates that. The Hi-O group will alternate every five seconds between in and out, as long as the card is shown for the reader.)
  5. Place the reader in the right direction and initiate the reader into the DAC / LCU, See manual for the DAC / LCU

Disabling the card read beep
The reader is shipped with the reading beep on, If you want to deactivate the beep, the following steps must be done.

  1. Place the reader to the side, with the front toward you.
  2. Connect the power

  4. The reader will beep and switch to red LED, the beep is inactivated. (If the card is kept for another five seconds the reader will enable the beep again. The Green LED flash, card readout beep is activated again.)

Configuration of the card technology (Sector Reading, DESFire application, iCLASS)

  1. Disconnect and connect the power to the reader.
  2. Green indication flashes for 90 seconds.
  3. Show the Setup card to the reader, before it stops flashing.
  4. The reader indicates that the programming is finished with a “chirp” and the green indication is unlit.
  5. The reader is now programmed with the encryption keys of the site.
