Introduction

The twin fan forced and radiant heating elements in the TPI Corporation 198TMC combination fan forced/radiant portable heater can be used alone or together to warm small rooms and work spaces. The steel container is portable and incorporates a wire cage for protection. Together, they can provide a total of 1500 watts at 600W for the radiant element and 900W for the fan-forced element. The device incorporates a thermostat for regulating temperature, a manual reset switch to prevent overheating, and a tip-over switch to safely turn off the heater. It comes with a six-foot, three-conductor power cord that is wired for 120V in order to work with the majority of common circuits.

HOW IT WORKS

Heat is circulated around the room by fan-driven heaters, which move air over a heating element. Fan-forced heaters heat a room quickly and take up less space than convection heaters since they employ a fan to convey the hot air.

HOW TO SET UP

  • Give it space. Place the heater at least three feet away from any items that could catch fire, such as drapes, furniture, or bedding.
  • Observe the cord.
  • Plug It Immediately.

FAQs

What country is this unit made? What is the shell; painted or metal?****

It’s made in china, and the wiring connectors inside are not good quality. Inhave two and both needed disassembly and new crimp connectors after two years of light use. The case is good quality powder coated metal. It would be a good heater if they improved the connector quality. If they are the same quality as two years ago, I would choose and older model made in USA by Markel called the heat- aire.

Is this heater listed with UL?****

Uncertain. However, this heater is excellent.

Can this be used in a 10 by 16-foot greenhouse?****

Since the heater is not intended for outdoor usage, using it in a greenhouse is somewhat ambiguous. Even though a greenhouse is not often exposed to rain and snow, moisture levels there could be a problem, increasing the danger of shorting out or experiencing a shock.

On what settings does this heater create the most noise? Can it be operated without a fan, making no noise? How loud, though? Honestly, please.****

There is no sound at low (600Watts). As far as heaters go, the fan setting on intermediate and high is the same.

Does the thermostat cause the fan to go on and off or does it operate continuously?****

I don’t know because I set the heater’s right knob to the hottest setting while using the medium fan setting (left knob). The right knob’s maximum heating setting causes the heat to be continuous rather than cycling on and off. I never use a heater with the maximum fan speed.

How many degrees does a room get hot?****

My heater has always heated a space approximately 11×13 pleasantly at the middle temperature setting, however I’ve never measured the degrees. (I never use the highest setting on a heater.)

What is the heater’s BTU rating?****

The answer is roughly 5120 BTU on high.

Where can I purchase this American-made heater model? I won’t buy cheap goods created in China.****

The majority of portable heaters with this particular design are manufactured elsewhere.

I have an old, brown one, however it is missing the “catcher’s mask” protector. Does a parts list come with the new Chinese models? TPI wasn’t much use.****

Since they relocated to China, no parts are available. When my motor broke, I had to take one from an old heater.

Does the heater’s exterior grey body become warm when in use?****

According to my memory, it wasn’t particularly hot. The fan and reflectors both contribute to heat dissipation.

Can it heat a two-car garage?****

Invaluable would be square footage. A room with excellent insulation needs little heating, yet garages typically have poor insulation.

Does the fan exert a lot of force? Would it be feasible to know how far you must go from the heater before the force of the fan is no longer felt?****

I can’t say what the maximum is because I only use the fan at its middle setting. The room will heat up quickly, quicker than most other fans I’ve used, even though it is only a foot or two tall at the middle setting.

At what temperature will this heater automatically shut off? And what is the max temperature it can be set to?****

The heater has 3 settings for the fan (low which is radiant, med and high). For heat you just adjust the right knob for warmest (there are no actual temperature settings). I only operate it at the first two fan settings and the highest warm setting (right knob all the way to the right). At this setting it has always stayed on. The room gets very warm-a great heater. When I leave the room I turn it off.
