Introduction
The TPI Corporation HF686TC fan forced portable heater is a heater from the 680 series that circulates heat and distributes it across a space, raising the temperature to 75 degrees F. The steel enclosure has a handle for transportation, a swivel base for mounting to a wall, floor, or ceiling, and is powder-coated to withstand corrosion. With a fan moving air at 262 cubic feet per minute and a 10′ air throw distance, the finned tubular steel heating element aids in drawing air flow and dissipating heat.
The heater has an inbuilt manual reset thermal cutout switch for overheat prevention in addition to a thermostat that allows temperature adjustment from 35 to 85 degrees F. Either a 240V circuit with 5.6kW or a 208V circuit with 4.2kW powers the single-phase wiring. The device is 20 lbs. in weight, with a 6′ power cord with a molded NEMA plug, and is approved by United Laboratories for use in the United States and Canada (UL).
HOW FAN-FORCED HEATER WORKS
Heat is circulated around the room by fan-driven heaters, which move air over a heating element. Fan-forced heaters heat a room quickly and take up less space than convection heaters since they employ a fan to convey the hot air.
HOW TO CLEAN
To remove dried dust and debris, use compressed air to spray the heater’s inner compartment. When cleaning a space heater without a cover, direct the nozzle of the compressed air duster at the vents and slats of the heater. If necessary, use a couple air sprays to clear away any remaining dust from the heating element.
HOW TO RESET
Your heater might not be operating due to this feature. Therefore, if the device does not turn back on, you can reset the functionality by switching the power switch to the off position. Remove the plug from the gadget and give it a few minutes to cool down. Switch it on after plugging it back in once again.
HOW TO PREVENT FIRE FROM HEATER
Never let the heater run while you are away from it or while you are sleeping. Beds, couches, curtains, documents, and clothing should be kept at least three feet (1 meter) away from the heater’s front, top, sides, and back. Make certain that the heater plugs fit firmly into the wall outlet.
FAQs
How long is the power cord to this unit?****
6′ (feet) or 72″ (inches) long.
Exists a reset?****
I don’t have a reset on mine, to be honest. If you hear a click but no heat, either the fan or the element has failed.
I need a plug adaptor so I can connect this device to my generator. Does TPI sell plug adapters?****
The generator should plug in as is if it produces 220V. This will not work for you if it just has 110V.
How does a manual thermal reset cutout function?****
It detects when the heater is getting too hot and turns it off. then enables you to manually switch it back on using the reset button.
How many BTUs is the 5600w?****
19,000 BTUs/Hour.
For 25 feet, how thick of an extension cord would you need?****
My extension cords are 25 or 30 feet long and contain #8 wire, which appears to function just fine. I’ve used it for a long time without experiencing any problems. I even used a non-contact laser thermometer to check the cord’s temperature, and it hardly exhibits any more heat.
How long is this product’s warranty good for?****
Unknown performed admirably for six winters.
Do I need to install a particular outlet?****
6-30R is the proper designation for the outlet (230V, 30A). Use a 4″ deep junction box and a cover plate for the 6-30R if surface mounting this outlet.
Is the fan motor an open motor or an enclosed one?****
Yes, the motor is entirely enclosed.
Can I use this heater in my little, humid hobby greenhouse?****
In my 26×30, well-insulated garage, I’ve used this heater. Here in northern Minnesota during the winter months when it snows, the air is so humid that my cars’ interiors start to melt. When it is -30 outdoors, it easily maintains 60 in the garage.
Can you operate this without turning on the thermostat?****
I don’t think that will operate without the thermostat turned on. More importantly, I wouldn’t since these appliances can get really hot.
Does the temperature control thermostat for the 5600/4200w, 240/208-volt device have a range of 60°F-110°F or 35°F-85°F? Both are mentioned in the summary.****
The range is not shown by the control knob. I adjusted it using the garage’s thermostat. I marked by the knob when it reached 67 degrees. I’ve also got at 45 marked to go off when I depart. incredible heater My mark for the upper temperature on the knob is a little bit above half, but it might be set higher.
Can the heater be set to run at 3000 or 4000 watts?****
No. 3000 watts at 208 volts or 4000 watts at 240 volts.
Please excuse my ignorance, but the generator has a choice of either a nema l14-20 or l5-20 receptacle/connector body. Which of these is acceptable?****
This heater has a NEMA #6-30P 30 amp plug and operates at 240 volts.
how hot a space can get? Will this heater reach 120 degrees or more in a small room?****
I’m not sure. Here in Indiana, it keeps my 24 x 36 70 all winter.
