Determine Channel Length
Measure desired length of channel and mark with pencil. Note that the total length of the fixture will include the length of each end cap. See Extrusion Dimensions for end cap thickness.
NOTE: A wire-to-tape connector inside the channel will add 5 in (15.87 mm) to the end of the LED tape. Wire should be routed through open end caps before inserting into connector.
Cut Channel and Lens
Channels can be cut to size with a reciprocating saw, oscillating saw, rotary saw, or hand saw fitted with an appropriate blade to cut metal objects. Once cut, deburr edges with ametal file. To ensure that the channel and lens are cut to equal lengths, consider cutting while they are assembled together and secured with painter’s tape.
Mounting (using mounting clips)
NOTE: Mounting clips should be used for horizontal-oriented fixtures
only.
For non-horizontal fixtures, see step 3b.
Using a straight edge and pencil, draw a straight guide line along the intended channel surface.
Mark holes and fasten mounting clips using a screwdriver. Maximum distance between mounting clips is 2 ft (0.61 m). Maximum mounting clip distance from the end of the fixture is 1 ft (0.3 m). A minimum of two mounting clips must be used for each fixture.
NOTE: The provided screws are suitable for mounting into wood substrates. It is the responsibility of the installer to select fasteners which are appropriate for their mounting surface.
Mounting (direct mounting)
Using a power drill fitted with a 8 in (4.75 mm) metal drill bit, drill mounting holes through the channel every 2 ft (0.61 m).
Fasten the channel to the mounting surface using a screwdriver.
NOTE: The provided screws are suitable for mounting into wood substrates. It is the responsibility of the installer to select fasteners which are appropriate for their mounting surface and sit flush inside the channel.
Mounting (recessed)
Using a router, create a track to fit the size of the desired channel. Reference the Extrusion Dimensions section for more information. For a straight and even track, consider clamping a straight guiding edge.
NOTE: A through-hole must be drilled in one side for wiring to the LED tape.
Referencing 3b, place the channel in the track and secure it using direct screw mounting.
Mounting (mud-in)
If assembling two pieces of channel together, use the provided end-to-end connectors by sliding one into each side of the channel and then fastening using a hex key (5/64 in or 2 mm).
Cut out an appropriately sized area for the channel height and width. Reference the Extrusion Dimensions section for more information.
Place the channel into the wall cutout and fasten it to the surface using drywall screws.
Cover the lens with painter’s tape, cover the wings of the channel with drywall tape, and then cover with drywall mud. Once the drywall mud is dry, remove the painter’s tape.
Clean the Channel and Adhere the Tape Light
Clean the inside of the channel, ensuring that it is dry and free of dust.
Peel the backing off of the LED tape and attach the LED tape to the channel. Press and hold for 10 seconds.
Assemble the Extrusion
Attach the lens by firmly pressing one edge into the channel and then firmly press in the other edge. Continue pressing along the channel until the lens is fully seated. Some lenses have a thin plastic film that must be removed after the installation is finished. Attach the end caps.
