TOASTING NOTES

Toasting is a combination of cooking and drying bread. Moisture levels vary from one bread to another, which can result in different toasting times.
Preheating is not necessary before using the toaster. When using this appliance for the first time, do not put any bread into the toaster. The appliance will emit a little smoke or gas, which is quite normal.

  • Use a lower browning level than normal for slightly dry bread.
  • For fresh or whole wheat bread, use a higher setting than normal.
  • Bread with very uneven surfaces (such as English muffins) require a higher browning setting.
  • Thickly cut slices of bread will take longer to toast, sometimes significantly longer. This is because more moisture must evaporate from the bread before toasting can occur.
  • Very thick slices may require two toasting cycles.
  • When toasting raisin or other types of fruit bread, remove any loose raisins from the surface of the bread before inserting into the toaster. This will help prevent pieces of fruit from falling into the toaster or sticking to the guard wires in the slot.
  • Single slice toasting: To toast a single slice of bread, set the browning control to lighter than normal. The toaster is designed to heat the whole toasting chamber for two slices. Reducing the toasting time for a single slice will ensure that it is not toasted too dark.
  • Frozen bread: Frozen waffles, pancakes and French toast should be heated using the defrost button.
  • Pastries: Caution: When toasting pastries, their filling may become very hot if the outside of the pastry is browned.
