Ermenrich Seek FR40 Infrared Thermometer
Please carefully read the safety instructions and the user manual before using
this product. Keep away from children. Use the device only as specified in the
user manual.
The kit includes: infrared thermometer, user manual, and warranty card.
Getting started
- Open the battery compartment cover and insert 2 AAA batteries. Close the cover.
- Press the Start/Measure button to turn on the device.
- The device switches off automatically afmer 30 seconds from the last action.
Display information
Usage
Point the sensor of the device at the measured surface and press the Start/Measure button. The display will start showing the measurement process indicator [4], and the device will start measuring the temperature of the surface. To stop the measurement process, release the Start/Measure button. The device will enter the data hold mode [1], and the display will start showing the last temperature recorded during the measurement process.
During measurement, keep an optimal distance to the measured object. The smaller the object, the closer the device should be held. For more information on the optimal distance, please refer to the “Distance” section.
The device has a built-in laser pointer that can be used for easier aiming. To switch the laser pointer on or off, use the Laser/Down button. The laser operation indicator [5] appears on the screen when the laser pointer is turned on. The laser is only used for aiming and does not affect the measurement process in any way.
The maximum value during ongoing measurement session is recorded. It is shown in the [9] field on the display.
When the temperature value exceeds the set range, the alarm indicator on the top side of the device will turn red. The display will show either the Low icon [3] or the Hi icon [2], depending on whether the temperature value is below or above the set range.
For more detailed information on how to set the temperature range, please refer to the “Settings” section.
To change the temperature unit, press and hold the Temperature unit/Up button. Depending on the selected unit, either the °C icon [7] or the °F icon [8] will light up on the display.
Settings
Press and hold the Mode button for two seconds to enter the Setup mode. In this mode, you can change the lower and upper limits for the range mode and set the emissivity value.
Upper range limit
In Setup mode, press the Mode button until the upper limit icon [2] lights up.
The temperature value field [11] will show the currently set upper limit
value. Use the Up and Down buttons to change the upper limit value. Press the
Mode button to move to the next setting or hold it for two seconds to exit the
Setup mode.
Lower range limit
In Setup mode, press the Mode button until the lower limit icon [3] lights up.
The temperature value field [11] will show the currently set lower limit
value. Use the Up and Down buttons to change the lower limit value. Press the
Mode button to move to the next setting or hold it for two seconds to exit the
Setup mode.
Emissivity
In Setup mode, press the Mode button until the emissivity icon [12] lights up.
Use the Up and Down buttons to change the emissivity value. To make sure that
the device measures the temperature most accurately, please set the emissivity
value according to the emissivity of the measured surface’s material (see
Appendix 1). Press the Mode button to move to the next setting or hold it for
two seconds to exit the Setup mode.
Distance
The device has a specific viewing angle:
Emissivity
The emissivity () of the surface of a material is its effectiveness in emitting energy as thermal radiation. The higher the emissivity, the more radiation the material emits. The emissivity of most organic materials and metals falls in the range of 0.850.95. The default emissivity setting of the device is 0.95. For more accurate measurement results, it is recommended to adjust the emissivity according to the table of the emissivities of different materials (see Appendix 1).

Care and maintenance
This is a class II laser device. Never look at laser beams without eye protection and do not point the laser beam at other people. Do not use the device if it is damaged or does not operate properly. The actual temperature of highly refjective materials may be higher than the measured temperature. Use extreme caution, as this can be life-threatening. Do not use solvent to clean the device. Do not use the device in places with a potential explosion hazard. Do not use the device in a corrosive environment. Do not disassemble the device. Replace the battery as soon as the low battery indicator lights up. Store the device in the place with appropriate temperature (see “Specifications”). Protect the device from sudden impact and excessive mechanical force. Never attempt to operate a damaged device or a device with damaged electrical parts! Only use accessories and spare parts for this device that comply with the technical specifications. If a part of the device or battery is swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
Battery safety instructions
Always purchase the correct size and grade of battery most suitable for the intended use. Always replace the whole set of batteries at one time; taking care not to mix old and new ones, or batteries of different types. Clean the battery contacts and also those of the device prior to battery installation. Make sure the batteries are installed correctly with regard to polarity (+ and ). Remove batteries from equipment that is not to be used for an extended period of time. Remove used batteries promptly. Never short-circuit batteries as this may lead to high temperatures, leakage, or explosion. Never heat batteries in order to revive them. Do not disassemble batteries. Remember to switch off devices afmer use. Keep batteries out of the reach of children, to avoid risk of ingestion, suffocation, or poisoning. Utilize used batteries as prescribed by your country’s laws.
