The Ampeg IR Loader Application
The free Ampeg IR Loader application for Mac and Windows computers allows you import and manage Impulse Responses (IRs) for your SGT-DI device. The Ampeg IR Loader app installer is available for download from https://ampeg.com/software. The IR Loader application will pop up an alert if a newer software version is available. Selecting Yes will quit your current IR Loader application and take you to the Ampeg website to download the latest software installer.
Alert indicating a newer Ampeg IR Loader application version is available
The app also prompts you if a newer SGT-DI device firmware version is available, and the app’s built in Firmware Update screen will walk you through the steps for doing an online firmware update (see page 17).
NOTE: It is highly recommended to update to the newest available versions of
both the IR Loader application and device firmware whenever available—by
performing the new IR Loader application installation first, before updating
the firmware, as the best practice. Ampeg SGT-DI is capable of storing three
of your own IR files to use as alternatives to the factory Ampeg IR cabs.
We’ve pre-loaded IRs into these three User IR locations to get you started,
and you can import your own IR files at any time using Ampeg IR Loader. SGT-DI
supports the use of IR .wav files of practically any sample and bit rate
available from 3rd party vendors (IR .wav files are automatically converted to
48kHz/32-bit float/mono/2048 resolution upon import).
TIP: Professionally crafted IRs are available for purchase from the Line 6® Marketplace Online Shop. All IRs available from the Marketplace that work for Line 6 Helix®, HX®, POD® Go, and Metallurgy® products are also fully supported by SGT-DI! See “Line 6 Marketplace IRs” on page 15.
System Requirements
To follow are the requirements to install and use the Ampeg IR Loader application on your Mac or Windows computer. User IR Options
Click the USER tab and then click to select the desired A, B, or C User IR location.* The currently-loaded IR’s filename is displayed at the top. Note that you can click directly on the name of the current IR and edit it with your text name as desired. Just as when you select the A, B, or C IR via the SGT-DI device’s top panel switch, your input is then processed by the selected location’s IR. You can play your instrument while adjusting the following parameters within the application to audition your changes in real-time.
*NOTE: If you toggle the SGT-DI device’s CAB|OFF|USER switch (page 9), its setting is reflected in the IR Loader application.
Importing one of your own IRs into the selected User IR location:
Click the Import button, browse to the folder on your computer where your IR files are stored, and select an IR file. (Alternatively, you can drag and drop an IR file from your computer folder directly into the IR Loader app’s IR slot.) You’ll be prompted that importing will overwrite the IR that currently resides in the A, B, or C location. If you don’t already have a backup of the current IR, you can choose Cancel in the prompt and use the Export feature (see page 15 ) to first save a copy of the current IR file on your computer. If you’re OK with replacing the current IR, click Confirm in the prompt. (You can check the Don’t show this again box if you prefer not to see this prompt—and you can restore it to be displayed again within the application’s Preferences
NOTE: SGT-DI converts IR .wav files to 48kHz/32-bit float/mono/2048 resolution upon import. If importing a stereo IR, only the left channel of the file is utilized
Line 6 Marketplace IRs
You can purchase premium IRs from the Line 6 Marketplace Online Shop and import and utilize these proprietary (.hir) files within the IR Loader app’s User IR slots just as you do with .wav IR files. Since Marketplace IRs are licensed to your account upon their purchase, you’ll need to be Signed In to your licensed account within the IR Loader app the very first time you import a newly purchased Marketplace IR. (Please see the Sign In details on page 12.) Signing in authorizes the Import and use of Marketplace IR files on your computer. Once this initial authorization is performed for new Marketplace IRs, it is no longer required to be Signed In while using the IR Loader app on this computer (nor even required your computer be connected to the Internet) to Import and Export your existing, licensed Marketplace IRs. Once you’ve imported a Marketplace IR (.hir), you’ll see a diamond icon indicator appear within the IR Loader app’s User IR slot.
Using the LO CUT, HI CUT, and LEVEL knobs
Adjust these knobs as desired for the IR. These parameters’ values are all stored independently for each Factory Cab.
TIP: Double-click directly on any knob to type in your precise desired value. (Note that for the HI CUT you can type your value with a decimal for kHz values—e.g. “12.5” will set the value to 12.50kHz.)
You can also use ALT/OPTION+click (Mac) or ALT+click (Windows) to reset any parameter to its original factory default value.
- LO CUT: Turn clockwise to filter out low-frequency content from the IR, from Off up to 500Hz.
- HI CUT: Turn counterclockwise to filter out high-frequency content from the IR, from Off down to 500Hz.
- LEVEL: Adjust to set the level for the current IR, from 0 to 100%.* You can also always use the SGT-DI’s Cab Level knob (page 9) to adjust the current User IR or Factory Cab level.
- NOTE: Be aware that a significant volume output increase can potentially occur if changing from a Cab or
- User IR that has its Level set to a low value to a Cab or User IR set to a high Level.
Exporting a User IR
If you’ve imported your own IR, click Export to save a copy of the slot’s IR file to your computer. (Alternatively, you can drag and drop from a User IR slot to a computer folder to export.) This is a handy way to make sure you have backups of your loaded IR files! The original Factory-loaded User IRs cannot be exported, but you can restore them to the three User IR locations anytime by doing a “Factory Reset” of your SGT-DI device. (Note that the export of Marketplace files requires your computer to be Authorized and are exported as .hir file types, requiring Authorization for their use.)
Re-ordering your User IRs’ locations
Use the Up and Down buttons at the right of the slot to reorder your current User IRs within the A, B, and C locations, if you prefer them in a different order.
NOTE: To ensure your ordering is completed, do not to disconnect the power or USB cable from your device while the Please wait… message is displayed within the application.
Factory Cab Options
Click the FACTORY tab to select the desired 115, 410, or 810 Factory Cab. Just as when you select the 115, 410, or 810 Cab via the SGT-DI device’s top panel switch, your input is then processed by the selected location’s Cab. You can play your instrument while adjusting the following parameters within the location to audition your changes in real-time.
Using the LO CUT, HI CUT, and LEVEL knobs:
Adjust these knobs as desired for the current Cab. These parameters’ values
are stored independently for each Factory Cab.
TIP: Double-click directly on any knob to type in your precise desired value.
(Note that for the HI CUT you can type your value with a decimal for kHz
values—e.g. “12.5” will set the value to 12.50kHz.)
You can also use ALT/OPTION+click (Mac) or ALT+click (Windows) to reset any
parameter to its original factory default value.
- LO CUT: Turn clockwise to filter out low frequency content of the Cab, from Off (20Hz) up to 500Hz.
- HI CUT: Turn counterclockwise to filter out high frequency content of the Cab, from Off (20kHz) down to 500Hz.
- LEVEL: Adjust to set the level for the current Cab, from 0 to 100%.* You can also always use the SGT-DI’s Cab Level knob (page 9) to adjust the current Factory Cab or User IR level.
- NOTE: Be aware that a significant volume output increase can potentially occur if changing from a Cab or User IR that has its Level set to a low value to a Cab or User IR set to a high Level.
TIP: Also see the Ampeg SGT-DI Cheat Sheet and Quick Start Guide included with your SGT-DI, or available at https://ampeg.com/support/manuals.
