Installation Instructions:

  1. Before starting any work, disconnect and lock-off the main supply for at least 5 minutes.
  2. Refer to mounting guidelines in Fig. 2 for proper installation.
  3. Ensure adequate ventilation to prevent overheating, as continuous high temperatures can reduce lifetime.
  4. When connecting to AC input voltage, connect earth ground wire to terminal block first, then N and L wires.
  5. Make sure all wire strands are securely fastened in the Terminal connection to prevent poor contact.
  6. Use ferrule terminations for stranded wires. See Fig. 4 for reference.
  7. When disconnecting, reverse the connection order: disconnect N and L wires first, then earth ground wire.
  8. Any usage not complying with specifications may reduce performance or damage the device.

Putting the Power Supply into Operation:

Important! Before applying power, ensure that the rated output current and voltage of the power supply meet the requirements of the application.

  • Q: What should I do if I encounter problems during installation?
    • A: Contact RECOM Techsupport for assistance. Do not attempt to modify the power supply unit.
  • Q: Can the internal input fuse be replaced by the user?
    • A: No, the internal input fuse must not be replaced by the user for safety reasons.

State of the art

The power supply is tested in accordance with the following standards:

  • CE (EMC, RoHS2, LVD)
  • UL
  • UKCA

Intended use

The unit is suitable for supply voltages in the range of 90-264VAC. Do not use in wet locations or in areas where moisture or condensation can be expected. All units have input fuses for device protection (not externally access-able). The internal input fuse must not be replaced\ by the user. The unit is output short circuit, over-voltage, over load and over temperature protected. The unit requires a Protective Earth connection for safety.

Installing the Power Supply

Putting the Power Supply into operation

Important! Before applying power, ensure that the rated output current and voltage of the power supply meet the requirements of the application.

Derating

See derating graph below at Fig. 5 Safe operation of the Power Supply Operate the power supply only according to the conditions and the ambient temperatures listed in the Specifications.

The power supply should:

  • not be operated if defective
  • not be operated under full load without sufficient cooling
  • be installed in a controlled environment compliant with pollution degree 2 (PD2)

Faults and troubleshooting

Depending on degree of protection (a mechanism), the device restarts automatically after the fault condition is removed.

Liability and warranty

RECOM Power GmbH assumes no responsibility and no liability for damages if:

  • the power supply is used for purposes not listed in the intended use section
  • the power supply is operated outside of the specification
  • the power supply is modified in any way
  • the power supply is improperly installed
  • the power supply is operated in a defective condition
  • the power supply is exposed to corrosive chemicals or gases
  • the documentation is not kept up to date

Dismantling and disposing of the Power Supply

  • Disconnect the power supply
  • Uninstall the power supply

Mounting

The power supply unit can be mounted on 35mm DIN rails in accordance with EN60715. Each device arrives prepared for installation.

Mounting, refer to Fig. 2.1:

  1. Place the device on the DIN rail with a slight upward tilt. As shown in Fig. 5.1, snap the device into the DIN rail.
  2. Now tilt the device downward until it reaches the lower part of the DIN rail.
  3. Press the lower part of the device firmly against the rail until the device locks into position on the DIN rail.

To make sure it is securely locked in place, give the device a gentle shake

To release refer to Fig 2.2:

  1. Pull the DIN rail latch by using a screwdriver OUT of the device and HOLD it.
  2. Tilt the bottom of the device OUT.
  3. Pull the device away from the DIN rail by pushing it up.

The following installation clearances must be kept when power supplies are permanently fully loaded. For Vertical Mounting, the device should be installed with input terminal block on the bottom.RECOM-REDIIN240-12-AC-DC-

  • Use flexible (stranded wire) or solid cables with the following wire cross-section, refer to Fig. 4.1. Ferrules are required for flexible cables.
  • Use copper conductors designed for an operating temperature of at least 105°C.
  • To secure reliable and shock proof connections, the stripping length should be 7 mm., refer to. Fig. 4.2
  • Ensure that the wires are fully inserted into the connecting terminals. Refer to Fig. 4.3
  • The screw terminals must be securely fastened and all wire strands inserted into the terminals to ensure safe and maximum contact.

Over Current Protection **

The unit operates in constant voltage mode within its rated load range. When exceeding the maximum current rating by 105% to 150% of its nominal rating the unit enters into a limited-current mode which drives the output voltage to approximately 80%of its nominal set point. Further increased load leading the units into a hiccup mode with automated restart.
