Description

Calibration box CS-5kV, due to high-quality resistors, with very high accuracy class, is perfectly suited to verify the indications of the insulation resistance meter and is very good tool for training purposes. CS-5kV may be used as a simulator of the insulation resistance of wires, cables or isolators. The device uses banana sockets with a diameter of 4 mm, which allows performing in easy way the measurements of resistance using meters from Sonel’s offer. In case of measurement using MIC family meters with measurement voltage higher than 2.5 kV, to connect meter to the Calibration box please use the crocodile clips and metal pins that are supplied with device.

Using the CS-5kV, you are capable of checking the correctness of measurements conducted with MIC series – insulation resistance meters. Other meters designed to work with CS-5kV include multifunction meters of electrical installations, which have the insulation resistance measurement feature

NOTE!
Maximum measuring voltage must not exceed 5500 V DC.

FEATURES

  1. Housing of calibrator
  2. Measuring sockets
  3. The value of the measured resistance

Safety

To ensure the proper operation of the instrument and the correctness of the results, please follow the rules below:

  • Before using the CS-5kV, please read these instructions and comply with safety regulations and the manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Any other application CS5 kV than those specified in this manual may cause damage and be a source of danger for the user.
  • The device can be operated only by persons appropriately qualified, who are certified to perform measurements of electrical installations. Using the calibration box CS-5kV by unauthorised persons can cause damage and be a source of danger for the user.
  • CS-5kV not be used in area of special conditions, for example in places where is danger, because of an explosion or fire.
  • Do not exceed the maximum allowable range of measurement voltage.
  • During the measurement of CS-5kV use appropriate measurement terminals
  • Before the measurement, please check if the test leads are connected to the appropriate measurement sockets.
  • It is unacceptable to use:
    • CS-5kV which is damaged and is completely or partially defective,
    • CS-5kV stored for too long in inappropriate conditions (for example. Humidity).
    • CS-5kV immediately after changing climatic conditions. Before using the device should be stabilised in the current climate.

NOTE!
Calibrator CS-5kV can not be connected to the power network.

Operating the CS-5kV

  • Before using the device, make sure that the housing is not damaged.
  • To measure one of four resistance values, please connect wires to the meter terminals Riso + and Riso-, and their ends are connected to one of the circuits of the simulator (A, B, C, D).
  • Set the test voltage in the meter up to 5000V +10%.
  • Start the measurement by pressing the appropriate button in the meter.
  • After finishing the measurement, read the measurement value from the display.
  • The Insulation resistance value after the measurement, indicated on the display should match to value of the resistance of the circuit under test. When reading the value displayed on the meter, be aware of measurement errors specified in the technical specifications of the meter and the calibration box CS-5kV

Cleaning and maintenance

NOTE!
Use only the maintenance methods specified by the manufacturer in this manual.

The simulator can be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth using a general-purpose detergent. Do not use any solvents or aggressive detergents, which could scratch the housing (powders, pastes, etc.).

Storage
Store the device in a dry place with humidity not exceeding the value specified in the manual.

Decommissioning and recycling

  • Old electrical and electronic equipment should be gathered selectively, which means not placed with the waste of another kind.
  • Used electronic equipment must be delivered to a collection point in accordance with the Act on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment.
  • Before the equipment is delivered to a collection point, do not dismantle any part of the equipment.
  • Observe the local regulations regarding the disposal of electronic equipment.
