The BOYA BY-BM3051S is an upgraded Stereo/Mono switchable condenser shotgun
microphone for DSLRs, compact camcorders, audio recorders.
With a wide frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz feature, it can offer
broadcast-quality sound and is well-suitable for videographers, YouTubers,
podcasters, and more.
The MONO/Stereo mode let you switch to accurate directional or stereo sound,
shifting easily to different polar patterns to get an optimized effect.
Features a three-level gain control switch (-10, 0, +20dB), +20 dB gain
booster to get a strong clean audio signal into your camera, while -10 dB pad
protects against distortion when recording in loud environments. And a
switchable high-pass filter can be set to flat or 75 Hz to roll off the low-
frequency noise and rumble.
The BY-BM3051S is outfitted with automatic power ON/OFF function in response
to plug-in power. And it’s powered by two pieces of AA batteries (not
included) for up to 30 hours of continuous time.
With the 3.5mm headphone output on the panel and integrated shock mount, it
allows users to monitor recording sound and inhibits the creation of
background noise.

HOW TO USE
INSTALLING THE BATTERY
- Press the bottom of the battery compartment cover down and lift it up.
- Insert the AA battery. Make sure that the + and – signs match the symbols in the compartment.
- Close the battery compartment cover.
SETTING UP YOUR MICROPHONE
To attach your microphone to a camera:
- Loosen the locking knob, then slide your microphone’s shoe mount onto your camera.
- Tighten the locking knob to fix your microphone.
- Connect the 3.5 mm audio cable to your camera.
To attach your microphone to a tripod:
- Tighten the microphone to the 1/4″ screw on a tripod or tripod plate. See the instructions for that camera with your tripod for more information.
- Connect the 3.5 mm audio cable to your camera.
USING YOUR MICROPHONE
1 Turn on your camera.
2. Slide the power switch to ON the LED indicator lights up.
3. Aim the microphone at the sound source and away from the unwanted sound
sources.
Tip: If using a tripod, the microphone could be held below or above as
well as straight in Infront of the sound source.
4. Slide the power switch to OFF when you finish recording.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem | Solution |
---|---|
No sound was recorded | **Make sure that two new AA batteries are |
installed into the battery compartment Make sure that the power switch is in the ON position, and the LEO indicator lights on.**
Make sure that the 35mm IRS output cable is well-connected to the MIS jack on your device during the recording.
Microphone stops working| Make sure that the power switch is in
the ON position, and the LED indicator lights on. If the indicator doesn’t
light on. please install the new batteries.
The sound is too quiet| Enable the microphone boost (+20dB
switch), move
closer to the subject, consult the camera owner’s manual for audio
recording settings.
Sound is distorted| Make sure that the gain function is switched
off, move away from the subject. For more details, please refer to
the camera owner’s manual for audio recording settings.
The microphone is stuck in the camera’s shoe mount|
Make sure that the locking wheel loosens completely.
MAINTAINING YOUR MICROPHONE
- Keep your microphone away from dust, moisture, or water.
- To clean the housing, wipe with a dry micro-fiber cloth to remove dust.
- Store your microphone in the included pouch to protect it from dirt and
