INSTRUMENT OPERATION
Where applicable, connect a probe via the socket at the top of the instrument. Switch the instrument on and apply the tip of the probe to the substance, medium, or surface to be measured. The instrument reading may take seconds to stabilize depending on the nature of the measurement and the sensitivity of the probe.
SENSORS
CaterTemp Metal has a fixed type K probe.
Therma K Metal should only be used with a type K thermocouple probe made to BS
EN 60584:1996 that is fitted with a suitable miniature thermocouple plug. Go
to www.thermoworks.com for suitable probes that
measure liquids, air, solids, and surface temperatures. Custom probes are also
available.
HOLD
Press the ‘HOLD’ button to freeze the display. Press ‘HOLD’ again to return the instrument to normal operation.
CHANGE FROM FAHRENHEIT TO CELCIUS
Press and hold the ‘ON/OFF’ button for 5 seconds at startup and the displayed temperature will change from °F to °C.
RESOLUTION
The instrument automatically changes range from 0.1º measurements to 1º measurements after 999.9º.
AUTO-OFF
The instrument will turn off automatically 10 minutes after the last button press. To disable auto-off, press down the ‘HOLD’ button while switching o the instrument (this is reset when the instrument is turned off).
UNDER-RANGE
If you are attempting to measure below the instrument’s specified temperature range, LO will be displayed.
OVER-RANGE
If you are attempting to measure above the instrument’s specified temperature range, HI will be displayed.
OPEN-CIRCUIT/FAULTY PROBE
If no probe is fitted or there is a fault with the probe, then the display will read Err.
BATTERY REPLACEMENT
The instrument will display a Lo Bat symbol to warn that the batteries will need changing soon. The instrument continues to measure accurately, but after further usage, the instrument will display ‘FLAt bAt’ and shut down.
To replace the batteries, remove cover and release the battery pack. Replace with 3x AAA Alkaline batteries. When refitting cover ensure seals are undamaged and positioned correctly. Firmly tighten screws to compress seal.
EMC/RFI
Readings may be affected if the unit is operated within a radio frequency electromagnetic field strength of approximately 3 volts per metre, but the performance of the instrument will not be permanently affected.
