medela 80220 Breast Shells Instructions
ENGLISH
The Medela Breast Shells are comfortable to wear. The discreet shape and the
flexible silicone membrane, which is gentle on the skin, mean that they are
pleasant and invisible to wear.
The ventilation holes in the top of the shells allow air to circulate, thus
preventing humidity.
The breast shell protects sore nipples from further chafing (incorrect
positioning of the baby’s mouth around the breast could be a reason for the
soreness). Milk leakage is simultaneously collected. The shells can be worn
continuously between breastfeeding sessions. If soreness becomes severe or
persists, consult a physician or lactation consultant. Avoid wearing at night
to prevent tender spots.
Assembly and Use
Put the silicone membrane on the shell. Be sure it snaps on all the way
around. Place the assembled breast shell inside your bra with the opening in
the silicone membrane centered over your nipple. The ventilation holes in the
shell must point upwards. We recommend wearing a nursing bra when using a
shell; nursing bras are roomier and the shell will fit more comfortably.
CAUTION: Do not feed the breast milk collected in the shell to the baby.
Discard this milk.
Cleaning Instructions
Before first use and subsequently once daily
Place the separated parts in a small pan filled with cold water. Distilled water is recommended – if tap water is used, a teaspoon of citric acid may be added to the water to avoid a build-up of limescale. Bring the water to boil and allow it to continue boiling for approximately 5 minutes. Drain off the water and place the parts on a clean cloth to dry.
After each use
Separate the parts. Shells and membranes should be washed with a mild cleaning solution, rinsed thoroughly in cold water and dried on a clean cloth.
Note
Shells and membranes can be put in a dishwasher.
