SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING!

Read all warnings, safety instructions and other instructions carefully before use. Failure to follow all the instructions and safety instructions can result in the risk of electric shock, fire and/or serious personal injury.

• Save these instructions and safety instructions for future reference.
• The term “power tool” in all the warnings below refers to mains-powered (corded) or battery-powered (cordless) power tools.

WORK AREA

• Keep the work area clean and well lit. Dark and cluttered work areas increase the risk of accidents and injuries.
• Do not use power tools in explosive environments, such as in the vicinity of flammable liquids, gas or dust. Power tools produce sparks that can ignite dust and fumes.
• Keep onlookers, especially children, and pets at a safe distance when using power tools. You can easily lose control of the product if you are distracted.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY

• Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces such as pipes, radiators, cookers and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed.
• Do not expose power tools to rain or moisture. There is a greater risk of electric shock if water gets into a power tool.

PERSONAL SAFETY

• Stay alert. Pay attention to what you are doing, and use your common sense when working with power tools. Never use power tools if you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication.
  Remember that a fraction of a second of inattention or negligence can result in serious personal injury.

• Use personal safety equipment. Wear safety glasses. Depending on the type of product and how it is used, safety equipment such as dust masks, non-slip safety shoes, safety helmets and ear protection reduce the risk of personal injury.

• Avoid accidental starting. Check that the power switch is in the OFF position before plugging in the plug or battery, or lifting/ carrying the product. Carrying a power tool with your finger on the switch, or connecting a tool to the mains supply when the switch is in the ON position, increases the risk of accidents and injuries.

• Remove any adjuster keys and the like before starting the product. Spanners or the like that are left in a rotating part of the product can cause personal injury.

• Do not overreach. Always maintain a firm footing and good balance. This ensures better control over the power tool in unexpected situations.

• Wear suitable clothing. Do not wear loose-fitting clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose-fitting clothing, jewellery and long hair can get caught in moving parts.

• If dust extraction and dust collection equipment is available, this should be connected and used correctly. The use of such devices can reduce the risk of dust-related problems.

USE AND CARE

• Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for the planned work. The power tool does the job better and safer when used at the rate for which it was designed.

• Do not use the power tool if it cannot be switched on and off with the power switch.
  Power tools that cannot be controlled with the power switch are dangerous and must be repaired.

• Pull out the plug and/or remove the battery before making any adjustments, changing accessories or putting the power tool away. These safety precautions reduce the risk of accidentally starting the power tool.

• Store power tools out of the reach of children when not in use. Never allow children, or anyone who is unfamiliar with the power tool and these instructions, to use the tool. Power tools are dangerous if used by inexperienced persons.

• Maintain and take good care of power tools. Check before use that moving parts are properly adjusted and do not jam, and that no parts are damaged. Check for other factors that could affect the functionality of the product. Have the product repaired before using it again. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.

• Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to jam and are easier to control.

• Use the power tool, accessories and bits etc., in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the actual working conditions and the work that is to be done. It can be dangerous to use power tools for purposes other than those for which they are intended to be used.

• Do not use the product if a handle or safety device is dismantled or damaged. Do not dismantle the product or attempt to modify or repair it

  • risk of personal injury and/or material damage.

• Look around the work area for potential risks that you might not notice when the product is in use.

• Do not use the product when other persons, especially children, or pets, are in the vicinity.

USING AND HANDLING CORDLESS ‘PRODUCTS

• Only charge the battery with the charger recommended by the manufacturer. A charger intended for one type of battery can result in a fire risk if used with another type of battery.
• Only use batteries recommended by the manufacturer. The use of other batteries can result in a risk of personal injury and/ or fire.
• When the battery is not in use keep it away from metal objects such as paper-clips, coins, keys, nails, screws and other small metal objects that can short circuit the terminals. Short circuiting discharges large amounts of energy and can cause a fire and/or serious personal injury.
• Failure to handle the battery carefully can cause fluid to leak from the battery. Avoid contact with battery fluid. If you get battery fluid on your skin, rinse immediately in plenty of fresh water. If you get battery fluid in your eyes, rinse your eyes with clean water for at least 10 minutes and then seek medical attention immediately. Fluid leaking from the battery can cause irritation or burns.
• Read all the instructions and safety instructions for the charger and/or battery.

SERVICE

• The power tool must only be serviced by qualified personnel using identical spare parts. This will ensure that the power tool remains safe to use.

SPECIAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

• Keep your hands and the rest of your body away from the chain when the product is running. Check that the chain is not touching the ground or an object when starting the product. A moment of inattention or carelessness can result in serious personal injury.
• Hold the back hand in your right hand and the front handle in your left hand, even if you are left-handed. Never hold the product in any other way— risk of serious personal injury.
• Hold the product by the insulated grips when working in areas where it could come into contact with concealed cables. Contact with a live cable will cause the metal parts on the product to also become live — risk of electric shock.
• Wear safety glasses and ear protection. A safety helmet with visor, safety gloves and non-slip safety shoes with protection for the lower part of the leg are recommended. The proper protective clothing reduces the risk of personal injury in the event of contact with the chain or ejected material.
• Do not overreach. Always maintain a firm footing and good balance. Only use the product on a level, stable surface. Never use the product from a ladder, tree or other unstable place. This could cause you to lose your balance or lose control of the product.
• Do not use the product to fell or limb trees if you are unsure of how to do it. Incorrect use of the product can result in a risk of serious personal injury.
• Branches under tension can spring away when they are cut and cause personal injury and/or cause you to lose control of the product.
• Be careful when sawing bushes. The thin stems can fasten in the chain and hit you or cause you to lose your balance.
• Switch off the product and pull out the plug before moving. Carry the product with the front handle and with the bar pointing away from your body. The supplied blade guard must always be fitted during transport and storage, to protect the bar and avoid the risk of personal injury.
• Follow the instructions for lubrication, tensioning the chain, and replacing accessories. The wrong tension and/or lubrication of the chain can result in a risk of the chain breaking and/or kickback.
• Keep the handles clean, dry and free from oil and grease. Greasy handles make it difficult to hold the product— risk of personal injury and/or material damage.
• Only use the product to saw wood. Use the product only for its intended purpose. Do not attempt to saw plastic, bricks or building materials not made of wood. Incorrect use can result in a risk of serious personal injury.

CAUSES OF KICKBACK AND WAYS TO PREVENT IT

• Kickback can occur if the tip or topside of the bar comes into contact with wood or other solid objects, or if the chain jams in the cut.
  The product is then thrown backwards out of control towards the user.

• Kickback can cause you to lose control of the product, with a risk of fatal or serious personal injury. Do not rely on the safety mechanisms on the product. Take suitable precautions to prevent accidents and personal injury.

• Kickback occurs when the product is used incorrectly and/or with the wrong work methods or in the wrong conditions, and can be avoided as follows.

  • Hold the product firmly with both hands and hold your arms and body in a position that prevents kickback. Do not let go of the product.
  • Avoid unbalanced and awkward positions when working. Never work above shoulder height. This makes it easier to avoid unintentional contact with the tip of the bar, and gives you better control of the product in unexpected situations.
  • Only use a bar and chain recommended by the manufacturer. The use of other accessories can cause the chain to break/or kickback.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for maintenance and sharpening of the chain. Low rakers increase the risk of kickback.

ADDITIONAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

• Read all the warnings, safety instructions and other instructions carefully before use and familiarise yourself with the controls on the product and how to use them, their applications, limits and potential risks. It is recommended to undertake a suitable training course.
• The product is not intended to be used by persons (children or adults) with any form of functional disorders, or by persons who do not have sufficient experience or knowledge on how to use it, unless they have received instructions concerning the use of the product from someone who is responsible for their safety. Keep children under supervision to make sure they do not play with the product.
• Switch off the product and remove the battery in the following situations.
  • Before leaving the product unattended.
  • Before checking, adjusting, cleaning or doing any other work on the product.
  • If the product starts vibrating abnormally.
• Keep onlookers, especially children and pets at a safe distance from the work area.
• Carefully inspect the area where the product is to be used and remove any foreign objects that can fasten and be thrown out by the product. Ejected objects can cause serious personal injury and/or material damage.
• Check before starting that the chain is not touching the ground or an object. • Switch off the product and wait until all moving parts have completely stopped before putting it down.
• Never leave the product unattended when plugged in.
• Switch off the product before transporting it.
• Do not use the product if a handle or safety device is dismantled or damaged. Do not use the product if it is not fully assembled.
• Do not dismantle the product or attempt to modify or repair it, this will invalidate the warranty and can result in a risk of personal injury and/or material damage.
• Only use spare parts recommended by the manufacturer. Remove the battery before changing accessories and/or spare parts. Fit accessories and/or spare parts in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
• Hold the product firmly with both hands and point the bar away from the body. Check that the chain is not touching the ground or an object when starting the product. Hold the product by the insulated grips when working in areas where it could come into contact with concealed cables. Check that the power switch is in the OFF position before putting in the battery. The power switch and lock must not be in the locked position.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

• Keep other people, especially children, and pets at least 15 metres away from the work area.
• Only use the product in daylight, or in good artificial lighting.
• Wear safety glasses, ear protection, safety gloves, non-slip safety shoes and heavy-duty long trousers.
• Do not wear loose-fitting clothing, jewellery or watches that can get caught in moving parts. Do not use the product barefoot or wearing open shoes.
• Stay at least 10 metres away from power lines.
• Do not overreach. Always maintain a firm footing and good balance. Only use the product on a level, stable surface.
• Be careful to avoid slipping or falling, especially when walking backwards.
• Remove sawn branches and logs from the work area to reduce the risk of personal injury.
• Never run with the product. A soon as a sawn branch starts to crack and fall, move away and stay at a safe distance
  • risk of personal injury. Watch out for falling branches, they can bounce when they hit the ground.
• Switch off the product and remove the battery if the chain jams. Remove the blockage.
• Hold the product firmly with both hands and point the bar away from the body.
• Check that the chain is not touching the ground or an object when starting the product.
• Check that the power switch is in the OFF position before putting in the battery. The power switch and lock must not be in the locked position.
• Always check before use that all the screw unions and other unions are properly tightened, that all the safety devices are in place and working, and that moving parts do not jam.
• Never dismantle or modify the safety devices on the product.
• Do not use the product if it is damaged, or if all the safety devices are not in place and working properly. Replace damaged or worn parts.
• Do not use the product in an explosive environment, e.g. near flammable liquids, gas or dust
  • risk of fire and/or explosion.

WARNING!

The product produces an electromagnetic field when in use. This field can in some circumstances affect active or passive medical implants. If you have a medical implant you should consult your doctor and/or the manufacturer of the medical implant before using the product to reduce the risk of serious or fatal personal injury.

BATTERY

• The battery can emit fumes when used incorrectly or if damaged. Such fumes can irritate the respiratory system. Breathe in fresh air. Seek medical attention if the complaint persists.

RISK OF FIRE AND/OR EXPLOSION

• Never use damaged, defective or deformed batteries. Never attempt to open the battery or subject it to knock and blows.
• Never charge the battery near acid and/or flammable gas or other substances.
• Do not expose batteries to heat or naked flames.
• Do not charge the battery at temperatures below 10°C or above 40°C, this can damage the battery.
• Do not expose the battery to high temperatures or strong sunlight for long periods.
• The battery will get hot during long periods of use. Allow it to cool before charging.
• Never short-circuit the battery terminals.
• The battery must be packed in a plastic bag or box, or the battery terminals sealed, before transport or storage and before waste disposal of the battery.

REMAINING RISKS

• Even if appropriate safety regulations are adhered to and safety devices are used, it is not possible to eliminate all risks. The following risks remain:
  • Risk of cut injuries.
  • Risk of hearing impairment.
• Prolonged use without ear protection can result in the risk of a hearing impairment. Wear ear protection.
• Risk of personal injury as a result of vibration during prolonged and/or incorrect use.
• During prolonged use vibrations are suspected to cause circulation problems in the hands and arms, or Raynaud’s syndrome (white fingers). Stop working immediately and seek medical attention if you experience numbness, itching, tingling or pain, or if your skin changes colour. Limit the risk of injuries as a result of vibrations by maintaining the tool correctly, keeping your hands warm and taking breaks.
• Even if the product is used in accordance with the instructions it is impossible to rule out all risk factors.

Always wear ear protection.

The declared vibration value, which has been measured by a standardized test method, can be used to compare different tools with each other and for a preliminary assessment of exposure. The measurement values have been determined in accordance with EN 60745-2-13:2009.

WARNING!

The actual vibration level when using power tools may differ from the specified maximum value, depending on how the tool is used. It is therefore necessary to determine which safety precautions are required to protect the user, based on an estimate of exposure in actual operating conditions (taking into account all stages of the work cycle, e.g. the time when the tool is switched off and when it is idling, in addition to the start-up time).

ASSEMBLY

IMPORTANT:

Do not put in the battery before the product is fully assembled and adjusted. Wear safety gloves when working on the product. Unpack the product and check that all the parts are included and undamaged.

FITTING THE BAR AND CHAIN

WARNING!

• The chain is very sharp. Always wear safety gloves when handling chains. Risk of personal injury.
• You can lose control of the product if the chain is not fitted correctly. The chain must be fitted in the correct direction of rotation.

1. Place the saw on a level, stable surface.

2. Release the knob and remove the chain guard.

3. Turn the chain tensioner clockwise to move the bar as close to the sprocket as possible.

4. Put the chain round the bar, starting on the top of the bar. Put the chain in the slot on bar. The chain must be fitted in the correct direction of rotation — see markings on the chain.

5. Put the bar with the oblong hole over the pin screw and guide screw on the product. Put the chain round the sprocket.

6. Turn the chain tensioner anticlockwise to tension the chain. The chain should not hang down, but it should be possible to lift it 1-2 mm from the middle of the bar.

7. Turn round the chain by hand and check that it slides smoothly in the slot in the bar.

8. Fit the chain guard.

9. Tighten the knob to lock the bar and chain guard.

NOTE:

On a new chain the chain tension should be checked after a few minutes in use and adjusted if necessary. Switch off the product, remove the battery and apply the chain brake before checking the chain tension.

SAW CHAIN OIL

• Use eco-friendly chain oil of good quality.
• Only use oil specially intended for lubricating saw chains. Used oil and engine oil or equivalent do not provide sufficient lubrication and can result in material damage.
• Only use oil of the type recommended by the manufacturer. The use of other oil can damage the lubrication system, the bar and/or the chain.
• Make sure that no dirt gets into the oil tank.
• Avoid spilling. Wipe up any spilled oil.

Filling with saw chain oil

1. Unscrew the cap on the oil tank (a).

2. Carefully fill with chain oil to the top mark on the sight glass (b). The oil tank holds max 180 ml.

3. Replace the cap on the oil tank and firmly tighten by hand.

NOTE:

• Never use the product without chain oil.
• Check the oil level in the sight glass at regular intervals.
• Only use oil specially intended for lubricating saw chains. Used oil and engine oil or equivalent do not provide sufficient lubrication and can result in material damage.

INSERTING/REPLACING THE BATTERY

1. Charge the battery as described in the instructions for the charger. Press the charged battery into the battery holder so that it locks in place.

2. Press the lock button (1) and remove the battery (2).

IMPORTANT :

Protect the battery terminals when the battery is not in use. Otherwise the battery can be short circuited, which can result in a risk of fire and/or explosion.

USE

INTENDED USE

• The product is intended for cutting down trees and sawing wood in private gardens. Do not attempt to saw plastic, bricks or building materials not made of wood.
• The product must only be used for its intended purpose and in accordance with these instructions. All other use is considered to be unsuitable. The manufacturer cannot accept liability for personal injury and/or material damage resulting from improper use. The full responsibility for any such personal injury and/or material damage rests on the user.

KICKBACK GUARD/CHAIN BRAKE

The product has a chain brake that triggers if the chain breaks and stops the chain in a fraction of a second in the event of kickback. The chain brake is applied automatically when the kickback handle comes into contact with the left hand of the user. For this reason always hold the product firmly with both hands according to the instructions.

WARNING!

Always check before use that the kickback guard/chain brake is working properly. Never use the product if the kickback guard/ chain brake is not working properly. Take the product to an authorised service centre, or other qualified personnel, to be checked and repaired.

Manual application of chain brake

Press the kickback handle towards the tip of the bar.

Releasing the chain brake

Pull the kickback handle towards the bow handle.

Checking the chain brake

1. Place the product on a level, stable surface.
2. Release the chain brake.
3. Hold the product firmly with both hands in accordance with the instructions.
4. Start the product and press the power switch to start the chain.
5. Press the kickback handle towards the tip of the bar. The chain must stop immediately! Never use the product if the kickback guard/chain brake is not working properly. Take the product to an authorised service centre, or other qualified personnel, to be checked and repaired.
6. Clean the visible parts on the chain brake mechanism after use.

CHECKING THE CHAIN LUBRICATION

1. Start the product in accordance with the instructions.
2. Run the chain when holding the bar about 15 cm over a suitable surface for 15 seconds. If the chain lubrication is working properly there should be splashing of oil on the surface.

START/SWITCH OFF

IMPORTANT:

Check that the chain is not touching the ground or an object when starting the product — risk of serious personal injury.

1. Hold the product firmly with both hands.

2. Check before starting that the chain brake is not applied by pulling the kickback handle towards the bow handle.

3. Press in the start inhibitor (1).

4. Press the power switch (2). The chain saw starts.

5. Release the start inhibitor.

6. Release the power switch to switch off.

DISPLAY OF BATTERY CHARGE

1. Press the button on the battery to see the battery charge with the status lights.

2. The status light go off after 5 seconds. The battery needs charging if the status lights flash. If no status lights go on when the button is pressed the battery is defective and must be replaced.

HOW TO USE

Before using

• Check that all the parts are correctly and firmly in place and that the product has no visible defects.
• Check that the chain is correctly tensioned.
• Check that the kickback guard/chain brake is working properly.
• Check the chain lubrication.
• Check for any oil leakage.

Keep the product correctly

• Always maintain a firm footing and good balance.
• Never work above shoulder height.
• Never use the product from a ladder, tree or other unstable footing.
• Do not overreach.
• Do not use the product in bad weather or poor light.
• Stand with both feet firmly on the ground.
• Watch out for obstructions in the work area.
• Hold the product firmly with both hands in accordance with the instructions.
• Hold the product as follows:
  • Hold the bow handle with the left hand.
  • old the back handle with the right hand.
  • Always maintain a firm footing and good balance.

Instructions for correct and safe sawing

• Check the work area and remove any objects that can interfere with the work.
• Always check that the product is in safe condition before use.
• Hold the product firmly with both hands in accordance with the instructions.
• Start the product before bringing the chain against the tree.
• Press the bar smoothly against the tree. Do not press too hard.
• Apply the bumper spike against the branch to be sawn off.

After use

IMPORTANT:

Switch off the product and wait until all moving parts have completely stopped before putting it down. The chain continues to move for a short while after releasing the power switch.

1. Stop the motor
2. Wait until all moving parts have come to a complete standstill.
3. Remove the battery.
4. Put the bar guard on the bar.
5. Apply the chain brake.
6. Allow the product to cool.

BASIC SAWING TECHNIQUE

Sawing with a pulling chain

With this technique sawing takes place with the underside of the bar, from up and down, so that the chain pulls the product forwards away from the user. This allows the front of the product to provide support and absorb the force from the tree being sawn. When sawing with a pulling chain the user has much better control over the product and can more easily avoid kickback. For this reason always use this technique when possible.

Sawing with a pushing chain

With this technique sawing takes place with the topside of the bar, from down and up, so that the chain pushes the saw backwards towards the user.

WARNING!

If the bar jams the product can throw back towards the user with great force. If the user does not withstand the pushing force of the product there is a risk of the tip of the bar coming into contact with the wood, which can cause kickback. Risk of fatal or serious personal injury.

TREE FELLING

Check the following points before tree felling.

• Check that there are no people or animals in the work area (A).
• Plan and clear a retreat route for everyone involved. The retreat route (B) should run diagonally backwards/outwards from the tree’s expected direction of fall.
• Check that the area around the tree is free from obstructions that can be tripped over.
• Check that the nearest workplace is at least 2.5 tree heights away. Check the expected direction of fall of the tree and check that there are no people or animals within 2.5 times the height of the tree.

Tree felling takes place in two steps

1. Make a notch cut through about 1/3 of the diameter of the trunk, on the side in which the tree is to fall (1).
2. Saw the felling cut from the other side of the tree (2), 3-5 cm above the bottom of the notch cut.
3. Never saw all the way through the trunk. Always leave holding wood (C), which acts as a hinge to ensure the correct direction of fall. Always stand to the side of the tree being felled.

LOGS LYING ON THE GROUND

Saw half way through the log, turn it over and saw through from the other side. Check that the chain does not touch the ground or an object.

SUPPORTED LOGS

We recommend cutting up logs on a sawbuck. If this is not possible the log should be lifted up and blocked up.

1. In area A, first saw through about 1/3 of the diameter of the log from above and then saw through the rest from underneath.
2. In area B, first saw through about 1/3 of the diameter of the log from underneath and then saw through the rest from above.

NOTE:

Do not saw wood under tension. If the wood splits or the bar jams there is risk of serious personal injury.

CUTTING BRANCHES

1. Always stand on the opposite side of the trunk from the branch to be cut.
2. Start underneath the branch and work up.
3. Saw through 1/3 of the branch from underneath, 10-15 cm from the trunk (1).
4. Saw off the branch from above a bit further out than the first cut (2).
5. Saw off the branch from underneath by the trunk (3).
6. Always saw off projecting twigs first. Saw off large branches after first removing twigs along the full length.

NOTE:

Branches under tension or resting on other branches can cause the chain to jam.

MAINTENANCE

WARNING!

Remove the battery from the product before cleaning, adjustment, maintenance and/ or replacing accessories. Risk of cut injuries when handling the chain — wear safety gloves.

CLEANING

• Clean the product after it has been used for best functionality.
• Clean the product with a damp cloth and soft brush.
• Remove the chain guard and remove chippings and oil residue from the bar, chain, sprocket and chain guard with a soft brush.
• Keep the ventilation openings free from dust and dirt.

IMPORTANT:

Do not use water or liquid detergent.

TENSIONING THE CHAIN

The chain should not hang down, but it should be possible to lift it 1-2 mm from the middle of the bar.

1. Twist the knob anticlockwise far enough so that the bar can be moved by hand.
2. Turn the chain tensioner anticlockwise to tension the chain.
3. Turn round the chain by hand and check that it slides smoothly in the slot in the bar.
4. Tighten the knob to lock the bar and chain guide.

NOTE:

On a new chain the chain tension should be checked after a few minutes in use and adjusted if necessary. Switch off the product, remove the battery and apply the chain brake before checking the chain tension.

CLEARING THE SLOT IN THE BAR

1. Remove the bar.
2. Clear the lubrication slot in the bar with a suitable plastic tool. Never use metal tools.
3. Replace the bar.

FILING THE CHAIN

The filing should be done with a special tool to ensure that the chain has the right angles and depth. It is recommended to have the chain filed by qualified personnel.

STORAGE

• Store the product in a dry place and frost-free (10-25°C).
• Store the battery and saw separately.
• Charge the battery before putting into storage if it is not going to be used for some time.
• Empty the oil tank if the product is not going to be used for some time.
• Put the bar guard on the bar.
• Never let brake fluid, petrol, oil-based products, penetrating oils, etc. come into contact with plastic parts.
• Store the product away from corrosive substances, such as salt and fertiliser.

The chain is worn.| Replace the chain.
The chain is fitted in the wrong direction of rotation.| Remove the chain and fit in the right direction of rotation.
