SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
- The product must only be used for its intended purpose and in accordance with these instructions. All other use is considered to be unsuitable.
- The manufacturer cannot accept liability for personal injury and/or material damage resulting from improper use. The full responsibility for any such personal injury and/or material damage rests on the user.
- Do not put implicit trust in the product no detector is completely reliable. To avoid any risks always check the detection results with other sources, for example building plans and photos taken previously before drilling, sawing, laying pipes or other intrusions in walls, ceilings or floors.
- Check all detections to ensure whether they are studs or other structural elements, or live cables.
- Work in walls, ceilings or floors in the vicinity of electric cables must only be carried out when the power is disconnected and secured from unintentional connection. Contact an authorised electrician if in doubt.
- Roof beams, wall studs and other structural elements are usually placed at a uniform relative distance from each other. Electric cables and water pipes are on the other hand often irregularly positioned. Check the reciprocal spacing of the detected objects before any intrusions in walls or ceiling.
- The properties of the wall, ceiling or flooring through which studs are detected can result in detection errors.
- The detected object can be wider or narrower than the width indicated in the display, depending on the detection depth.
BATTERIES
- Never attempt to charge batteries that are not rechargeable – risk of explosion.
- Store batteries out of the reach of children and pets. Never short-circuit batteries,or attempt to open or dismantle batteries.
- Seek medical attention immediately if anyone has swallowed a battery.
- If necessary, clean the battery terminals and product terminals before inserting new batteries.
- Insert the batteries with the correct polarity.
- Remove discharged batteries from the product, otherwise there is a risk of battery leakage.
- Only use batteries of the recommended type.
- Check that the product is switched off before putting it away after use.
- Remove the batteries if the product is not going to be used for some time.

FIG. 1
USE
INSERTING/REPLACING THE BATTERY
- Switch off the product with the power switch
- Open the battery compartment cover (5) Connect the battery (a) with the correct polarity.
- Put the battery in the battery compartment.
- Close the battery cover (5) and check that the lock tab snaps in place.
FIG. 2
APPLICATIONS
The product detects studs, joists, AC cabling and metal objects through plasterboard and other common wall, ceiling and floor materials.
NOTE:
- The product is not intended for commercial or industrial use.
- The maximum detection depth in plasterboard walls with studs is 50 mm.
- The product has a limited capacity for detection in stone and brick walls.
STARTING AND SWITCHING OFF
Press the power switch (4) to start and switch off the product.
Note: The product switches off automatically after 60 seconds.
FUNCTIONS
Select the required function with the function buttons. (See Technical Data for detection depth.)
FIG. 3
STUD
Detection of metallic and non-metallic materials.
METAL
For iron, steel and copper pipes.
DEEP (depth)
For copper pipes, metal and wood.
AC (AC voltage)
For live AC cables.
CALIBRATION
The product must be calibrated to the properties of the detection area before each detection. The calibration must then be repeated every 60 seconds during the detection to minimise detection errors.
FIG. 4
- Start the product and select the required function.
- Hold the product with the back pressed against the surface to be scanned.
- Move the product to an area where the sought after object (stud, electric cable etc.) is not expected to be found.
- Press the detection button (2) and hold.
- Hold the product still until three beeps signal that the calibration is ready.
- You can now start the scan.
SCANNING
The scanning procedure is the same for all four scanning functions.
FIG. 2-4
-
Start the product and select the required function.
-
Calibrate according to the instructions.
-
Hold the product against the surface to be scanned and move it horizontally slowly.
-
When the product comes near an object at least two bars with be shown in the display (1).
FIG. 2 -
The closer the product comes to the object, the more the bars that will be shown.
FIG. 3 -
Mark the point on the surface where the display (1) shows all the bars (no empty fields between the bars).
-
Repeat this process from the other side. FIG. 4-5
-
Mark another point on the surface where the display (1) shows all the bars (no empty fields between the bars).
-
The scanned object lies between the two marks.
WARNING
- If AC mode (alternating voltage/cable scanning mode) is activated and a flash symbol is shown together with the bars, this means the detected object is a live cable.
- Studs and cables located near each other can make detection more difficult and produce misleading results.
- If the position of a cable is know, for example from a drawing, but the product cannot find it in AC mode, switch to METAL mode. Metal jacketed electric cables can involve such detection problems.
IMPORTANT:
-
These objects must always be scanned twice — once in each direction.
-
The product must not be tilted or lifted from the surface during the scanning.
-
It could be advisable to repeat the scan with the product turned 900 in relation to the first scan to determine the shape and size of the object more precisely.
FIG. 6-7 -
Metal studs and struts running in parallel with the product can interfere with the product sensor.
-
Continuous display of only one bar does not mean that an object has been detected. An object has only been safely detected when all the bars are shown.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Cleaning
Clean the product straight away after it has been used. Use a soft cloth moistened with water and a mild detergent. Do not use strong detergents or solvents, they can damage the plastic parts. Make sure that no water gets into the product. If water gets into the product, this will increase the risk of electric shock.
