Overview

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

The term power tool in the warnings below refers to your mains-powered (corded) or battery-powered (cordless) power tool.

WORKPLACE
  • Do not use the power tool in explosive environments, such as in the vicinity of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools produce sparks that can ignite dust and fumes.
  • Keep children and onlookers at a safe distance when using the power tool. You can easily lose control of the power tool if you are distracted.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
  • Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces such as pipes, radiators, cookers and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed.
  • Do not expose the power tool to rain or moisture. There is a greater risk of electric shock if water gets into a power tool.
PERSONAL SAFETY
  • Stay alert. Pay attention to what you are doing, and use your common sense when working with the power tool. Never use power tools if you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention when using a power tool can result in serious personal injury.

  • Use personal safety equipment. Wear safety glasses, non-slip safety shoes, safety helmet and ear protection, depending on the type of power tool and usage.

  • Avoid accidental starting. Check that the power switch is in the off position before inserting the battery or lifting/carrying the tool. Carrying a power tool with your finger on the switch, or connecting a tool to the mains supply when the switch is in the ON position, increases the risk of
    accidents and injuries.

  • Always check that Allen keys/spanners etc. have been removed from the power tool before it is started. Spanners or the like that are left in a rotating part of the power tool can cause personal injury.

  • Do not overreach. Always maintain a firm footing and good balance. This will ensure you have better control over the tool in unexpected situations.

  • Wear suitable clothing. Do not wear loose-fitting clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose-fitting clothing, jewellery and long hair can get caught in moving parts.

USE AND CARE
  • Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for the planned work. The power tool does the job better and safer when used at the rate for which it was designed.
  • Do not use the power tool if it cannot be started and stopped with the power switch. Power tools that cannot be controlled with the power switch are dangerous and must be repaired.
  • Remove the battery before making any adjustments, changing accessories or putting the power tool away. These safety precautions reduce the risk of accidentally starting the power tool.
  • Store power tools out of the reach of children when not in use. Never allow children, or anyone who is unfamiliar with the power tool and these instructions, to use the tool. Power tools are dangerous if used by inexperienced persons.
  • Keep the power tool properly maintained. Check that moving parts are properly adjusted and do not jam, and that no parts are incorrectly fitted or damaged. Check for other factors that could affect functionality. If the power tool is damaged, it must be repaired before being used again. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
  • Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to jam and are easier to control.
  • Use the power tool, accessories, etc. in accordance with these instructions. Pay attention to the actual working conditions and the job to be done. It can be dangerous to use power tools for purposes other than those for which they are intended to be used.
BATTERY
  • Only charge the battery with the intended charger. A charger intended for one type of battery can result in a fire risk if used with another type of battery.
  • Only use power tools with the specified batteries. The use of other batteries can cause personal injury or the risk of fire.
  • When the battery is not being used it must be kept away from paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws and other metal objects that can short circuit the terminals. Short circuiting can damage the battery or cause personal injury, burns and/or fire.
  • Acid can leak from the battery if the battery has been damaged. Avoid contact with battery fluid. If you get battery fluid on your skin, rinse immediately in plenty of fresh water. Seek medical attention if you get battery fluid in your eyes. Battery acid can cause skin irritation and/or burns.
SERVICE

The power tool must only be serviced by qualified service personnel using identical spare parts. This will ensure that the power tool remains safe to use.

SPECIAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
  • Keep your hands and the rest of your body away from moving parts on the power tool. Never attempt to remove cuttings or hold branches and the like that are to be cut when the blade assembly is in motion.
First switch off the power tool and then remove cuttings that have jammed in the blade assembly. A moment of inattention when using a power tool can result in serious personal injury.

  • Carry the hedge trimmer by the handle and when the blade assembly has stopped. Always fit the safety cover over the blade assembly when the tool is not in use. Handle the power tool with care to avoid the risk of cut injuries.

  • Hold the power tool by the insulated grips when working in areas where the tool may come into contact with concealed electrical cables or its own power cord. Contact with a live cable will cause the metal parts on the power tool to also become live – risk of electric shock.

HOW TO USE
  • Do not overreach. Always maintain a firm footing and good balance.
  • If possible, avoid working on wet and slippery surfaces and under all circumstances on uneven or steep terrain that does not provide sufficient stability.
  • Never run with the power tool. Pay attention to the surface and watch out for obstacles.
  • Make an assessment of the terrain to be worked on and take all necessary precautions for your own safety, especially on slopes or on uneven, slippery or unstable ground.
  • There may be local regulations for the minimum age of persons allowed to use the machine. The power tool must only be used by one person at a time.
  • Do not use the power tool if, while working, you cannot hold it with both hands or cannot stand firmly on both feet.
  • Never allow children, or anyone who is unfamiliar with the power tool and these instructions, to use the tool.
  • Do not use the power tool when other persons, especially children, or pets, are in the vicinity.
  • Never use the power tool if you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication.
  • Do not use the power tool unless all the safety devices are correctly fitted and working.
  • Always follow all the safety instructions and use the cutting technique that is most appropriate.
  • Only use the power tool for its intended purpose. Any other usage can be dangerous and result in major damage to the tool.
  • Only use the power tool in daylight, or in good artificial lighting
HANDLING THE ELECTRIC HEDGE TRIMMER
  • Do as follows when handling or transporting the power tool:

TECHNICAL DATA

Always wear ear protection.

The declared vibration value, which has been measured by a standardised test method, can be used to compare different tools with each other and for a preliminary assessment of exposure.

WARNING!
The actual vibration level when using power tools may differ from the specified maximum value, depending on how the tool is used.
It is therefore necessary to determine which safety precautions are required to protect the user, based on an estimate of exposure in actual operating conditions (taking into account all stages of the work cycle, e.g. the time when the tool is switched off and when it is idling, in addition to the start- up time).

USE

INTENDED USE

The hedge trimmer is designed for cutting and trimming hedges and bushes. The hedge trimmer must only be used as it is intended to be used and in accordance with these instructions. All other use not described in these instructions is to be considered as incorrect usage.

CHARGING THE BATTERY

NOTE:

  • Charge the battery before using it for the first time.

  • The battery gets warm during the charging. This is quite normal.

  1. Connect the charger to the mains supply. Only charge at an ambient temperature of 4 -40°C. The recommended optimum charging temperature is 24°C.
  2. Plug the charger into a power point. The red status light goes on during charging.
  3. It takes about 4 hours to fully charge the battery. The status light goes green when the battery is fully charged. The battery reaches full capacity only when it has been charged and discharged several times.

IMPORTANT:
Do not charge the battery immediately after use. Allow the battery to cool before charging.

If the battery does not charge

  1. Test the power point with a lamp or other product.
  2. Move the charger and battery to an area where the temperature is 18-24°C.
  3. If you still have charging problems, hand in the product and charger to an authorised service centre.
INSERTING/REMOVING THE BATTERY

NOTE:
Remove the battery before maintenance.

  1. Check that the power switch is in the OFF position.
  2. Press the battery lock on the end of the battery and remove the battery from the product.
  3. Align the battery ridges to the slots in the casing, and press the battery in place. Press in the battery all the way until it clicks into place.
  4. Never attempt to force the battery in place. If it is not easy to press it in place, it is not properly aligned.
HOW TO USE

Before starting the motor

  1. Insert the battery in the battery compartment.
  2. Remove the blade assembly guard.
  3. Ensure that the blade assembly is not in contact with anything.

Starting

  1. Hold the hedge trimmer firmly with both hands.
  2. Press on the front handle and then on the power switch.

NOTE:

  • Both switches must be activated in order for the hedge trimmer to start and remain running. The hedge trimmer is switched off if one of the two switches is released.

  • Release the switch immediately if the blade assembly is blocked during work or if the hedge trimmer gets caught among the branches.

WORKING TECHNIQUE

Start by cutting the hedge’s vertical sides before cutting the top.

Vertical trimming
Work with sweeping movements from the bottom up, and hold the blade assembly as far from the body as possible.

Horizontal trimming
The best results are achieved if the blade assembly is tilted slightly (5-10 degrees) in the cutting direction. Cut with a curved action, slowly and continuously, especially in very thick hedges.

AFTER TRIMMING IS FINISHED

NOTE:
Remove the battery before maintenance.

Clean and lubricate the blade assembly after use. It will then cut more efficiently and have a longer life.

  1. Clean the blade assembly with a soft cloth and brush to remove dirt and deposits.
  2. Lubricate the blade assembly with the intended oil.

MAINTENANCE

IMPORTANT:
Remove the battery before maintenance.

  • Remove the battery from the battery compartment after each work shift and check that it is not damaged.
  • Clean the hedge trimmer thoroughly after every use so that all dust and dirt is removed.
  • Regularly check that all screw joints on the hedge trimmer are properly tightened. Retighten if necessary.
  • Keep the ventilation openings on the hedge trimmer clean to prevent overheating.
  • Regularly check that the blades are not bent or damaged and that the fixed comb on the blade assembly is undamaged.
BLADE ASSEMBLY LUBRICATION

NOTE:
Remove the battery before maintenance.
If the hedge trimmer overheats during operation the inner surfaces of the blades must be lubricated.

STORAGE
  • Clean the hedge trimmer thoroughly so that all dust and dirt is removed.
  • Lubricate the blades.
  • Store the hedge trimmer in a dry, safe place out of the reach of children.

NOTE:
The supplied blade guard must always be fitted during transport and storage.
