SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR POWER TOOLS

WARNING!

Read all the safety instructions and other instructions. Failure to follow all the instructions and safety instructions can result in the risk of electric shock, fire and/ or serious personal injury. Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.

The term “power tool” in all the warnings below refers to mains-powered (corded) or battery-powered (cordless) power tools.

WORK AREA

Keep the work area clean and well lit.
Dark and cluttered work areas increase the risk of accidents and injuries.
Do not use power tools in explosive environments, such as in the vicinity of flammable liquids, gas or dust. Power tools produce sparks that can ignite dust and fumes.
Keep onlookers, especially children, at a safe distance when using power tools.
You can easily lose control of the power tool if you are distracted.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY

The plug on the power tool must match the power point. Never modify the plug in any way. Never use an adapter with earthed power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets reduce the risk of electric shock.
Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces such as pipes, radiators, cookers and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed.
Do not expose power tools to rain or moisture. There is a greater risk of electric shock if water gets into a power tool.
Be careful with the power cord. Never use the power cord to carry or pull the tool, or to pull out the plug from the mains socket. Keep the power cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges and moving parts.
Damaged or tangled power cords increase the risk of electric shock.
If using the tool outdoors, only use an extension cord approved for outdoor use.
Cords intended for outdoor use reduce the risk of electric shock.
If it is absolutely necessary to use power tools in damp conditions, use a mains connection protected by a residual current device (RDC). Using an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

PERSONAL SAFETY

Stay alert. Pay attention to what you are doing, and use your common sense when working with power tools. Never use power tools if you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication.
A moment of inattention or carelessness can result in serious personal injury.
Use personal safety equipment. Wear safety glasses or a face mask. Depending on the type of tool and how it is used, safety equipment such as dust masks, non-slip safety shoes, safety helmets and ear protection reduce the risk of personal injury.
Avoid accidental starting. Check that the power switch is in the OFF position before plugging in the plug or battery, or lifting/ carrying the tool. Carrying a power tool with your finger on the switch or connecting a tool to the mains supply when the switch is in the ON position increases the risk of accidents and injuries.
Remove adjuster keys/spanners before switching on the power tool. Spanners or the like that are left in a rotating part of the power tool can cause personal injury.
Do not overreach. Always maintain a firm footing and good balance. This ensures better control over the power tool in unexpected situations.
Wear suitable clothing. Do not wear loose-fitting clothing or jewellery.
Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose-fitting clothing, jewellery and long hair can get caught in moving parts.
If dust extraction and dust collection equipment is available, this should be connected and used correctly. The use of such devices can reduce the risk of dust-related problems.
Do not allow familiarity with similar tools to lead to exaggerated self-confidence and to neglect the safety instructions for the tool. A moment of inattention or carelessness can result in serious personal injury.

USING AND LOOKING AFTER POWER TOOLS

Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for the planned work.
The tool does the job better and more safely when used at the rate for which it was designed.
Do not use the power tool if it cannot be switched on and off with the power switch. Power tools that cannot be controlled with the power switch are dangerous and must be repaired.
Pull out the plug and/or remove the battery before making any adjustments, changing accessories or putting the power tool away. These safety precautions reduce the risk of accidentally starting the power tool.
Store power tools out of the reach of children when not in use. Never allow children, or anyone who is unfamiliar with the power tool and these instructions, to use the tool. Power tools are dangerous if used by inexperienced persons.
Maintain power tools and accessories.
Check that moving parts are properly adjusted and do not jam, and that no parts are incorrectly fitted or damaged.
Check for other factors that could affect functionality. If a power tool is damaged it must be repaired before it is used again. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
Keep cutting tools sharp and clean.
Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to jam and are easier to control.
Use the power tool, accessories and bits etc., in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the actual working conditions and the work that is to be done. It can be dangerous to use power tools for purposes other than those for which they are intended to be used.
Keep handles and grips clean, dry and free from oil and grease. Greasy handles and grips make it difficult to hold and control the tool in unexpected situations.

USING AND MAINTAINING BATTERY-POWERED TOOLS

Only charge the battery with the charger recommended by the manufacturer.
Charging other batteries can result in a risk of personal injury and/or fire.
Only use batteries recommended by the manufacturer. The use of other batteries can result in a risk of personal injury and/or fire.
When the battery is not in use keep it away from metal objects such as paperclips, coins, keys, nails, screws and other small metal objects that can short circuit the terminals. Short circuiting discharges large amounts of energy that can cause a fire and/or burn injuries.
Failure to handle the battery carefully can cause fluid to leak from the battery. Avoid contact with battery fluid. On contact with battery fluid, rinse immediately with plenty of fresh water. Seek medical attention if you get battery fluid in your eyes. Battery fluid can cause skin irritation and/or burns.
Do not use damaged or modified batteries, or power tools that are damaged. Damaged or modified batteries can behave unexpectedly and cause a fire, explosion or risk of personal injury.
Do not expose batteries or power tools to naked flames or heat. Batteries can explode when exposed to naked flames or temperatures higher than 130°C.
Follow the instructions for charging and charge the battery only at the temperature indicated in the instructions.
Incorrect charging or charging outside the given temperature range can damage the battery and cause a fire.

SERVICE

Power tools must only be serviced by qualified personnel using identical spare parts. This will ensure that the power tool remains safe to use.
Never attempt to repair damaged batteries. The battery must only be serviced by the manufacturer or at an authorised service centre.

SPECIAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR DRILL DRIVERS AND IMPACT WRENCHES

Hold the tool by the insulated grips when working in areas where it could come into contact with concealed cables or its own power cord. Contact with a live cable will cause the metal parts on the power tool to also become live – risk of electric shock.

The declared values for vibration and noise, which have been measured according to a standardised test method, can be used to compare different tools with each other and for a preliminary assessment of exposure. The measurement values have been determined in accordance with EN 62841-2-2:2014.

WARNING!
The actual vibration and noise level when using tools may differ from the specified maximum value, depending on how the tool is used and the material. It is therefore necessary to determine which safety precautions are required to protect the user, based on an estimate of exposure in actual operating conditions (taking into account all stages of the work cycle, e.g. the time when the tool is switched off and when it is idling, in addition to the start- up time).

DESCRIPTION

The product is a part of the Meec Tools Multiseries 18 V – a series of power tools and garden equipment that uses the same battery and charger. Battery, charger and other accessories can be bought in Jula’s department store and at www.jula.com.

USE

BATTERY

Powerful battery for machines and tools in the Meec Tools Multiseries. On the short side of the battery there is a battery power indicator, which shows the residual battery power in four steps.
Click the indicator button to see the battery level.

NOTE:

Do not dismantle the battery or attempt to replace the battery cells.
Short circuiting the battery terminals on this battery by jewellery or tools can result in serious burn injuries.
Store the battery in a dry place at no more than 27 °C.
Store the battery with a 30% – 50% charge.
Charge the battery every seven months during long-term storage.

CHARGING THE BATTERY

Make sure to do the charging in a suitable place and to use the right charger. Only batteries and chargers in the Meec Multi Series must be used with this product. Never connect an unknown charger, or a charger, charging cord or battery that can be suspected to be defective. Otherwise there is a risk of overheating, and in the worst case fire.

FITTING THE SOCKET

IMPORTANT:

Make sure the product is switched off (rotation selector in middle position and trigger released) before fitting or removing the socket. Check that the socket size (width of jaw) matches the size of screws or nuts to be tightened. The wrong size of socket damages the nuts/screw heads.

Fit the socket on the square spindle head and press in place. Only use impact sockets with 6-points (supplied).
Select rotation with rotation selector and start the product by pressing the trigger.
Switch off by releasing the trigger.
The rotation can be switched with the rotation selector, which has 3 positions: right, left drive and middle. The rotation is indicated on the ends of the rotation selector. The rotation can only be switched when the trigger is released and the spindle has stopped. Never attempt to use the rotation selector when the spindle is rotating. The trigger is locked when the rotation selector is in its middle position.
Always check the rotation before use.
Release the trigger as soon as the stroke mechanism starts to knock.

NOTE:

The product loses power when the battery is discharged.
Low spindle speed results in less torque.

UNSCREWING WHEEL NUTS/ SCREWS

NOTE:
Always use the right size of socket. The wrong size of socket damages the nut/screw head.

Remove the hub cap.
Set the rotation selector to left drive. Hold the product firmly with both hands and fit the socket on the nut/screw head. Press the trigger. The product starts working and unscrews the nut.
IMPORTANT:
Release the trigger as soon as the nut comes loose.
Repeat for all the wheel nuts/screws. Jack up the vehicle according to the instructions in its manual, so that the wheel comes free from the ground, and unscrew all the nuts.

TIGHTENING WHEEL NUTS/SCREWS

NOTE:
Always use the right size of socket. The wrong size of socket damages the nut/screw head.

First tighten the nut/screw a few turns by hand to avoid misthreading. Fit the socket on the nut/screw head.
Set the rotation selector to right drive.
Hold the product firmly with both hands and fit the socket on the nut/screw head.
Press the trigger.
Tighten all the nuts/screws until they just make contact with the rim, but do not fully tighten. When all the nuts/screws are on, tighten them crosswise by fully pressing the trigger and allowing the stroke mechanism to knock 3–4 times.
Do not overtighten.
Always finish the tightening with a torque wrench. Lower down the vehicle before the final tightening, so that the wheel does not spin. Tighten all the nuts/screws to the torque indicated by the vehicle manufacturer.

VARIABLE SPEED

The speed can be controlled by squeezing the trigger.

MAINTENANCE

CARE AND CLEANING

Clean the outside of the product when necessary with a soft, damp cloth.
Do not use solvent.
Keep the ventilation openings on the product clean to prevent overheating.
Clean the ventilation openings with compressed air (never poke any objects through the ventilation openings).

INSPECTION AND REPAIRS

Always check that the product is in good condition before use.
Check at regular intervals that moving parts are correctly adjusted and move smoothly, and that no other factors could affect functionality or safety.
Repairs should be carried out by qualified personnel.

STORAGE

When not in use, store the product in a dry, frost-free place out of the reach of children.

TROUBLESHOOTING

THE STATUS LIGHTS ON THE CHARGER DO NOT GO ON

Check that the charge adapter is correctly inserted in the power point.
Check that the battery is correctly inserted in the charger cradle.
Check that the charger plug is correctly inserted in the charger cradle.

SHORT BATTERY RUN TIME

Check that the battery is correctly activated and charged. The battery must be charged and discharged 4–5 times to reach its full capacity.

BLOCKED TRIGGER

Check that the rotation selector is not in its middle position (trigger locked) and is fully pushed to the left or right.

THE PRODUCT STOPS WORKING

Check battery charge level on the battery indicator. If the battery indicator is off or indicates that the battery is not discharged, the battery overheating protection has probably tripped. This can happen during prolonged or demanding use with large sockets and accessories. Put the battery in the charger cradle for 3 to 5 hours. After this the battery will have cooled and the safety circuits will have been reset.

SPARKS THROUGH THE VENTILATION OPENINGS

Sparks can sometimes be seen through the ventilation openings on the casing. This is perfectly normal and is not a fault.
