Blood pressure
What is blood pressure?
Blood pressure is the pressure exerted by the blood on the inner walls of the
arteries. Systolic pressure occurs when the heart contracts. Diastolic
pressure occurs when the heart expands. Blood pressure is often given in
millimetres of mercury column, mmHg. To find out what your normal blood
pressure is, you measure the blood pressure in the morning before you have
eaten or begun to be active.
What is high blood pressure and how do you treat it?
High blood pressure that is not treated can lead to many health problems,
including strokes and heart attacks. Lifestyle can influence blood pressure.
High blood pressure can be treated with medicine under the direction of a
doctor. The following measures can help to counteract high blood pressure.
- Do not smoke.
- Reduce intake of fat and salt.
- Avoid overweight.
- Excercise regularly.
- Undergo regular health checks.
Why measure blood pressure at home?
Many people feel anxious when measuring blood pressure at the doctor’s, which
can result in the measured value being 25 to 30 mmHg higher than if it was
measured at home. When measuring at home the measured value is not influenced
to the same extent by external circumstances, which makes the readings more
accurate.
WHO’s a classification of blood pressure?
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has established limiting values for blood
pressure, without reference to age, which are indicated in the table below.
Variations in blood pressure
A person’s blood pressure can vary by up to 30 to 50 mmHg during the day. For
persons with high blood pressure, their blood pressure can vary even more.
Blood pressure normally increases during physical exertion, and is lowest
during sleep. Individual measurement results can therefore be misleading. Note
your normal blood pressure and take measurements at the same time each day. A
lot of measurements provide a better overview of variations in blood pressure.
Always make a note of the date and time for blood pressure measurements. Ask
your doctor to help you interpret the results.

Conducted radio frequency interference IEC 61000-4-6| 3 V rms
150 kHz to
80 MHz
| 3 V| Portable and mobile radio communication equipment must not used nearer to any part of the blood pressure monitor or its leads than the recommended minimum distance in accordance with the equation applicable for the transmitter in question.
Recommended minimum distance
d = 1.2 √ P
d = 1.2 √ P 80 MHz to 800 MHz
d = 2.3 √ P 800 MHz to 2.5 GHz
where P is the maximum output specified by the transmitter manufacturer in watts (W) and d is the recommended minimum distance in metres (m).
The field strength from a permanent radio transmitter, determined by electromagnetic measurement in situ, should be less than the specified compliance level for the respective frequency rangeb.
Interference can occur in the vicinity of equipment marked with the symbol:
Emitted radio frequency interference IEC 61000-4-3| 3 V/m
80 MHz till
2.5 GHz
| 3 V/m
Note: 1: The higher frequency range is applicable at 80 MHz and 800 MHz.
Note: 2: These guidelines do not apply in all situations. Electromagnetic radiation can be affected by absorption in and reflection against building structures and other objects, such as people. a The field strength from permanent transmitters, e.g. base stations for mobile phones and wireless telephony, communication radios, amplitude or frequency modulated radio and television broadcasting cannot be predicted theoretically with a practical degree of accuracy. In those cases where electromagnetic environmental impact from permanent radio transmitters is important, measurement of electromagnetic field strength in situ should therefore be taken into consideration. If the measured field strength in the place where the blood pressure monitor is used exceeds the applicable, above specified compliance levels for radio frequency radiation, the blood pressure monitor should be tested and checked to verify that it is working properly. Additional measures may be necessary if incorrect or abnormal functionality is observed, for example the realignment or repositioning of the blood pressure monitor. b In the frequency range 150 kHz to 80 MHz the field strength should be less than 3 V/m.
