  • Wear suitable clothing, safety gloves and non-slip shoes.
  • Make sure that nobody enters the work area.
  • The area around the workplace must be marked and cordoned off in an appropriate manner.
  1. Open the top of the packaging and check that the product is free from deformation, corrosion and other damage that can affect function.
  2. Remove the product from the packaging and clean it.
  3. Assemble the product as instructed below.
  4. Apply a thin layer of grease on the wire and on the ratchet using a brush.
  5. Lubricate the pulley and the drum’s shaft with a few droplets of oil.
  6. Hook the product’s anchoring hook
    (2) onto a suitable anchor (see section Anchoring) and check that the safety catch (4) is completely closed.

ANCHORING

A closed eyelet (sold separately) is normally used as the anchor to which the product is hooked. The eyelet must be dimensioned so that the product can be anchored securely. It must also be able to cope with the relevant static and dynamic loads, and the eyelet and the mounting must satisfy all statutory requirements and all demands according to applicable directives and standards in the country of use. Dimensioning and assembly of the anchor should be carried out by qualified personnel. Failure to anchor the product correctly can result in the risk of serious personal injury and/or material damage.

LOAD

  • Check that the load that is to be moved does not exceed the product’s capacity.
  • Connect the load so that it cannot come loose while being moved.
  • The equipment (sold separately) that is used to connect the load must be in good condition and have sufficient load capacity.

MOVING

IMPORTANT

  • Risk of the lever moving unexpectedly. Keep a firm hold of the lever when pressing in the pawl’s locking pin, to ensure that the lever cannot move as a result of the weight of the load. If the lever moves unexpectedly, move back and do not attempt to stop it. Wait until the lever has reached the end of its stroke.
  • Risk of pinch injury! Keep your hands, feet and the rest of your body away from the moving parts.

Select a secure and stable working position, with a good overview of the work area. Always maintain a firm footing and good balance. Keep your hands, feet and the rest of your body at a safe distance from the product and the load. Never spend time in line with the wire when the product is loaded, rather stand to the side and monitor the load and the wire. If the wire comes loose or breaks, the end will fly back towards the product with considerable force and could cause death, serious injury and/ or material damage. Keep your face at a safe distance from the lever’s area of movement. When the product has been securely hooked onto the anchor, follow the instructions below.

Rolling out wire with no load or tension

  1. Check that the wire is not loaded. Bend the driving pawl (6) away from the ratchet (9) by moving the spring (7) to the top of the groove in the plate on the driving pawl.
  2. Pull the pawl (8) upwards so that it is free of the ratchet (9). This allows the ratchet and the wire drum to rotate freely.
  3. Grip the hook (3) with one hand and pull out the wire to the desired length. Make sure not to twist the wire.

Moving loads with a tensioned wire

IMPORTANTHAMRON 009840 Pull Winch FIG 3

Both the driving pawl (6) and the pawl (8) must be engaged simultaneously in the ratchet’s (9) teeth. FIG. 3

  1. Attach the hook with the pulley (3) to the load and check that the hook’s safety catch (4) is completely closed.
  2. Engage the pawl (8) in the ratchet’s (9) teeth.
  3. Engage the driving pawl (6) in the ratchet’s (9) teeth by inserting the end of the spring (7) in the groove.
  4. Tension the wire by moving the lever (1) back and forth using even movements. Avoid sudden jerks. Never use any type of extension of the lever.
  5. Pull the load to a flat, secure surface where it cannot move before disconnecting the wire.

Relieving the load on the wire with a connected load
IMPORTANTHAMRON 009840 Pull Winch FIG 4

Either the driving pawl (6) or the pawl (8) must always be engaged in the ratchet’s (9) teeth. You may not release both at the same time. FIG. 4

  1. Check that the pawl (8) is engaged in the ratchet’s (9) teeth.
  2. Bend the driving pawl (6) away from the ratchet’s (9) teeth by inserting the end of the spring (7) in the groove.
  3. Move the lever (1) to the side of the pawl (8) until the locking pin (10) springs away fully. Pull the lever backwards and repeat several times. Each time the locking pin (10) springs away, the ratchet (9) on the drum is turned one tooth.
  4. Unhook the wire from the load.
  5. Wind up the wire on the drum. FIG. 5HAMRON 009840 Pull Winch FIG 5
