TOMADO TPM1502S Coffee Maker Piston Machine PRODUCT
DESCRIPTION

PRIOR TO THE FIRST USE

Before using the coffee machine for the first time, proceed as follows: Carefully unpack your coffee machine and remove all packaging material and possible promotional stickers. Also do not forget the cover cap at the bottom of the reservoir. Keep the packaging (plastic bags and cardboard) out of reach of children. After unpacking the appliance, carefully check it for external damage that may have occurred during transport.

Place the coffee machine on a flat, stable, and heat-resistant surface. It is best to clean the interior of the new coffee machine prior to using it for the first time. This is done as follows:

  • Take the removable water reservoir from the appliance, slide the cover upwards, and fold it over. Fill the water reservoir with cold drinking water. Do not fill it above the  MAX mark. Place the cover back on the reservoir and slide the reservoir back into the appliance. TOMADO TPM1502S Coffee Maker Piston Machine FIRST USE

  • Now press the steam button. The indicator light next to the button flashes. When the light remains on, press the button to turn it off. The indicator light next to the coffee button will now flash quickly. Press down the coffee button and water will start to flow.
  • When the water stops flowing, you must press the coffee button to turn it off. Then switch off the appliance, remove the plug from the socket and remove the remaining water from the water reservoir and the cup.
  • Allow the appliance to cool down and clean all separate parts as indicated in the section CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE.
Attention: The appliance can make more noise when pumping water for the first time, this is normal, as the air in the appliance is released. After approximately 20 minutes the noise will decrease.
Important: Only fill the appliance with cold water. Hot water has a negative effect on the coffee machine’s life span.

MAKING ESPRESSO/COFFEE

Check that the voltage stated on the information plate matches the voltage used in your region. Place the coffee machine on a flat, stable, and heat- resistant surface. Insert the plug in an earthed wall socket.

  1. Take the removable water reservoir from the appliance, slide the cover upwards and fold it over.
Fill the water reservoir with cold drinking water. Do not fill it above the MAX mark. Place the cover back on the reservoir and slide the reservoir back into the appliance.

  2. Take the filter holder from the appliance by turning it clockwise.

  3. Fill the one- or two-cup filter with the required amount of coffee by means of the provided measuring spoon. Firmly compress the coffee using the tamper. Depending on your taste, approximately 1 cup of coffee can be made with 1 measuring spoon. When using coffee capsules for making coffee, you can place the capsules of your taste in the filter provided for that purpose. Attention! Avoid making contact with the blades in the filter for coffee capsules, these are very sharp.

  4.  Place the filter in the filter holder, making sure that the ball at the side of the filter falls precisely into the indentation in the holder. Then place the holder in the appliance from the position and firmly turn the handle counter-clockwise to position .

  5. Place the required number of coffee cups on the cup grille. Make sure the cups are properly positioned so that the coffee flows into the cups.

  6. Check that the steam controller is switched off (turned upwards). Switch on the appliance by pressing the on/off button, after which the indicator light switches on. The indicator light next to the coffee button is flashing to indicate that the appliance is being pre-heated. When this light remains on, press the coffee button, and the coffee will start to flow. Press the coffee button once more when the required amount of coffee has been made. If you do not do this, the cup will overflow! Attention: After making coffee, the indicator light may start to flash again to indicate that the appliance is pre-heating. When the light remains on, you can continue making coffee.

  7. Coffee tastes best immediately after it has been made, so do not wait too long before serving.

Tips:

  • We recommend slightly warming up an espresso cup prior to use, for instance by first placing it on the hot plate on top of the appliance. A pre-heated cup will prevent the espresso from cooling down too quickly.
  • In order to make a good espresso, we recommend pre-heating the appliance. This is done by first making a cup of espresso without adding coffee, as a result of which hot water flows through the appliance.
Warning: Do not leave your coffee machine unsupervised when it is working, because of the manual actions you have to perform.

HEATING UP (CHOCOLATE) MILKaz

Check that the voltage stated on the information plate matches the voltage used in your region. Place the coffee machine on a flat, stable, and heat- resistant surface. Insert the plug in an earthed wall socket.

  1. Take the removable water reservoir from the appliance, slide the cover upwards and fold it over. Fill the water reservoir with cold drinking water. Do not fill it above the  MAX mark. Place the cover back on the reservoir and slide the reservoir back into the appliance.

  2. Check that the steam controller is switched off (turned upwards). Switch on the appliance by pressing the on/off button, after which the indicator light switches on. The indicator light next to the coffee button flashes.

  3. Now press the steam button. The indicator light next to the coffee button switches off and the light next to the steam button flashes. When this light remains on, the water is at the right temperature.

  4. Turn the steam pipe away from the appliance, and use the provided handle for this.

  5. Fill a cup with the drink that you want to heat up, (chocolate) milk. It is important that the cup used is not too small, observe a minimum diameter of 7.5 mm and take into account that the drink can double in volume when foaming.

  6. Remove the attachment from the steam pipe and place the steam pipe in the drink to be heated. If you also want to foam your drink, leave the attachment on the steam pipe. Place the steam pipe in the drink to be warmed up. Make sure that the end of the steam pipe is always in the drink (approx. 2 cm), and not only in the foam, for example, to prevent liquid from splashing upwards.

  7. Slowly turn the steam controller, after which the steam sprays out of the steam pipe and your drink is heated up. The amount of steam can be controlled by turning the button.
Warning: Never turn the steam controller too quickly, too much steam could be created too quickly otherwise, which in rare cases could lead to an explosion.

  8. When your drink has reached the required temperature, turn the steam controller to the closed position again (turned upwards) and press the steam button to turn it off.
After use, you must properly flush through the steam pipe 1 time to remove residues of (chocolate) milk. For this, observe the above-mentioned steps and select water at step

After flushing through, throw away the water. Remove the attachment from the steam pipe and clean it as described in the section CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE. Be careful that you do not burn yourself!

Attention:

  • If you want to make coffee immediately after using the steam pipe, the indicator light next to the coffee button will flash quickly. The appliance is still too hot for making coffee. After using the steam pipe, we recommend switching off the appliance and allowing it to cool down for at least 5 minutes, before making coffee.
  • When the appliance fails while steam is being released, the residual heat ensures that steam continues to be released for a certain period of time. The appliance stops producing steam when you turn the steam controller off (turned upwards).
Warning: The steam pipe becomes hot, only grab it by means of the supplied handle.

SWITCHING OFF

After use, always switch off the appliance by briefly pressing the ON/OFF button. When the indicator light switches off, you can let go of the button and the appliance is switched off. If you do not switch off the appliance yourself, it will switch off automatically after approx. 25 minutes to save energy. After switching it off, remove the plug from the socket.
After making coffee, do not forget to screw the filter holder out of the appliance and remove the coffee residue. For this, push the flap on the handle of the holder upwards with your thumb, this makes sure that the filter does not fall out of the holder.
Then remove the filter from the holder and rinse it under flowing water. Empty the water reservoir to prevent scaling. Also, empty the removable leak tray regularly, the floater in the leak tray becomes visible above the cup grille when the leak tray is full. Allow all parts to cool down before you clean them.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

Regularly clean the coffee machine. This is not only beneficial for the life span of the appliance, it also ensures optimum use of the appliance and, of course, good-tasting coffee.
Cleaning should involve the following:

  • Prior to cleaning, always check that the coffee machine is switched off, and cooled down and that the plug has been removed from the socket.

  • regularly clean the outside of the appliance with a slightly damp cloth and then wipe it dry with a dry cloth.

  • Regularly clean the water reservoir, leak tray, and cup grille of the appliance with hot water and a mild washing-up liquid.
Then rinse thoroughly with hot water and wipe dry.

  • Take the filter holder away from the appliance by turning it clockwise. Remove coffee residues and clean the filter holder, filters, and measuring spoon/tamper with water and a mild washing-up liquid. Then rinse thoroughly with hot water and wipe dry. Attention! Avoid making contact with the blades in the filter for coffee capsules, these are very sharp.

  • Remove the attachment from the steam pipe and clean it with hot water and a mild washing-up liquid. Then rinse thoroughly with hot water and wipe dry. Wipe the end of the steam pipe clean with a slightly damp cloth and then wipe it dry with a dry cloth.

  • Place back all components correctly in the appliance.
Attention: Never use abrasives, alcohol, or solvents when cleaning. Never rinse the appliance under the tap or submerge it in water.

STORAGE

When the coffee machine is not being used for a longer period of time, you must first release the steam in the appliance. This is done as follows:

  1. Check that the steam controller is switched off (turned upwards). Switch on the appliance and wait until the indicator lights remain on. Press the steam button and wait until the indicator light remains on.

  2. Turn the steam pipe away from the appliance, and use the provided handle for this. Hold a cup under the steam pipe to collect any water that is released.
Warning: The steam pipe becomes hot, only grab it by means of the supplied handle.

  3. Press the steam button and then slowly turn the steam controller, after which the steam sprays out of the steam pipe. Allow the steam to be released for 3 minutes.
Warning: Never turn the steam controller too quickly, too much steam could be created too quickly otherwise, which in rare cases could lead to an explosion.

  4. Then turn the steam controller closed again (turned upwards) and press the steam button to turn it off. Allow the appliance to cool down and remove the plug from the socket.
Caution! Avoid contact with the steam, this could result in personal injury! Store the appliance in a dry location at a temperature that is higher than 0 °C.

DE-SCALING
Regularly de-scale your coffee machine. The de-scaling intervals depend on the hardness of the mains water and the frequency at which the coffee machine is being used. We recommend de-scaling the coffee machine every 2-3 months. Due to scaling, the heating element can become obstructed. This causes overheating, as a result of which the coffee machine is switched off automatically as a safety precaution and will no longer function. The coffee machine will have to be repaired. You can de-scale the coffee machine with a special de-scaling agent for coffee machines or with kitchen-grade vinegar.
If you use a special de-scaling agent for coffee machines, you must observe the instructions on the packaging of this agent.
When using kitchen-grade vinegar, proceed as follows:

  1. Switch off the appliance by pressing the on/off button and remove any remaining water from the water reservoir.

  2. Fill the water reservoir with clean, cold water and cold kitchen-grade vinegar up to the MAX mark. The water and kitchen-grade vinegar ratio should be 4:1. Place the filter holder with filter (without coffee) back in the appliance and place a cup on the cup grille.

  3. Check that the steam controller is switched off (turned upwards) and switch on the appliance.

  4. Press the coffee button when the indicator light next to the button remains on. Allow the water to flow until your cup is full.
Press the coffee button once more to stop the coffee-making process and remove the water from the cup.

  5. Repeat step 4 once and then wait 5 seconds.

  6. Press the steam button and wait until the indicator light remains on. Make steam for 2 minutes by slowly turning the steam controller. Hold a cup under the steam pipe to collect any water that is released. Turn the steam controller upwards again and press the steam button once more to switch it off.

  7. Switch off the appliance. Wait at least 15 minutes and then switch the appliance back on. As a result, the scale will be softened and removed.

  8. Wait until the indicator lights remain on and allow the appliance to run until the water reservoir is empty. The de-scaling process has been completed. Empty the cup and the removable leak tray to remove any water.

  9. After de-scaling, allow a full reservoir of cold water to flow through the appliance at least 3 times, to remove all de-scaling liquid and vinegar residues and thus prevent a  sour taste in the coffee. Repeat all the above-mentioned steps, only now do not add kitchen-grade vinegar to the water. It is not necessary to wait 15 minutes at point 7.

Caution! If the coffee machine has not been used for some time, e.g. due to vacation, it is recommended to remove and clean all separate components. Then place the cleaned separate components back in their place and allow the coffee machine to make one run with clean water. In this way, you will prevent a possible foreign taste.
