EXTOL PREMIUM 8823390 Laser Receiver-Detector

Description – purpose of use

  • Laser beam detector-receiver Extol® Premium 8823390 is intended for quickly finding a laser line of selflevelling laser devices for the purpose of identifying their position in locations, where the projection of laser lines on to walls or other surfaces is not possible since they are not visible, i.e. particularly outdoors or in large indoor areas, e.g. for surveying building foundations, for use in large indoor areas (halls), etc. Examples of use for the receiver are provided in figures 1. to 3. The operating principle of the receiver is shown in fig. 9.
  •  The receiver must be compatible with the self-levelling laser device and meet the conditions set in the technical specifications (chap. II.) and when used with the receiver (detector), the self-levelling laser device must have the pulse mode activated, otherwise it will not work (see farther in the text).
  •  The laser beam receiver is compatible with Fortum® and Extol® Premium brand self-levelling laser devices, which are shown in fig. 4, however, it may also be compatible also with other self-levelling laser device brands normally available on the market if the laser has the required technical parameters specified in chapter II. Prior to purchasing a self-levelling laser device, please verify in advance its compatibility with this receiver model.

WARNING

  • Carefully read the entire user‘s manual before first using the receiver, and keep the manual with the product so that the user can become acquainted with it. If you lend or sell the product to somebody, include this user‘s manual with it. Prevent this user‘s manual from being damaged.
  • Prior to using the receiver, check that it is not damaged (damaged cover, display, etc.). Do not use the device in a damaged condition and replace it with a device in perfect condition.

Preparing the receiver for use

INSERTING BATTERIES
Remove the battery compartment cover on the rear part of the device and insert batteries of the same brand, type and age according to the marked polarity +/- into the battery compartment.

TURNING THE DEVICE ON/OFF
To turn on/off the device, press the button.

ENABLING/DISABLING THE SOUND SIGNAL
Use button to set the volume of the sound signal if necessary. It is possible to set two sound signal volume levels or to completely turn off the sound signal. The highest volume is automatically set when the device is turned on.

TURNING ON/OFF THE DISPLAY BACKLIGHT
Button is used to turn the display backlight on or off (this is not a laser detection indicator light).

SETTING ACCURACY

Use button to set accuracy to ≤ 2 mm or ≤ 3 mm. Set accuracy to ≤ 3 mm when the receiver is at a greater distance from the self-levelling laser device, since a greater distance reduces the accuracy of self-levelling. The operating distance of the laser source-receiver is at least 50 m thanks to the sensitivity of the receiver being greater than the visibility of the laser beam by mere eyesight. Also set accuracy to ≤ 3 mm in the event of vibrations or shocks of the laser beam.

SETTING SELF-LEVELLING FOR THE LASER SOURCE (LASER BEAM SOURCE)

  •  In order for the receiver to detect the laser beam of a self-levelling laser source, the following conditions must be met:
  •  Requirements for frequency, max. frequency variance, class and colour of the laser, that are specified in the technical specifications (chapter II. of this user‘s manual) must be met.
  •  The self-levelling laser device must be turned on in the pulse mode (fig. 8).
  • If the pulse mode of the self-levelling laser device is not activated, the receiver will not detect the laser beam. Figure 4 lists the described models of the self-levelling laser devices of the
  • Fortum® and Extol® Premium brands from our product offering, which may be used with this receiver if they are turned on with the pulse mode activated.
  • In the older version of the self-levelling laser user‘s manual shown in fig. 4, the pulse mode is called „setting higher brightness intensity or change of intensity of the laser lines, etc.“.
  • Therefore, to set the pulse mode for these models of self-levelling laser devices, follow the instructions for setting a different brightness or intensity of the laser lines.
  • The button for activating/deactivating the pulse mode is, as a rule, marked on self-levelling laser devices using this symbol .

ATTENTION

Prior to purchasing a self-levelling laser device that is different to those listed in fig. 4, first verify the compatibility of the laser source with this model of receiver. The receiver
may be compatible with self-levelling lasers of other brands normally available on the market.

INSTALLING THE RECEIVER INTO THE HOLDER

  •  The holder screw can be screwed into the thread on the rear side of the receiver and the receiver with the holder is mounted on to a height gauge/levelling staff (fig. 1 – fig. 3).

Receiver indication based on the position of the laser line

  •  Fig. 9 shows the receiver indication based on the position of the laser line relative to the centre line of the receiver.
  •  If the laser line is at the level of the centre line of the receiver, it will be accompanied by continuous beeping, indicating that the laser line has been located by the receiver.
  • If this happens, do not change the position of the receiver and the position of the laser line can be marked on the surface using a pencil according to the marks on the sides of the receiver.
  •  If the laser line is located above the centre line level of the receiver, this will be accompanied by an intermittent beeping sound with a higher frequency. If this happens, lift the receiver higher so that the laser line reaches the level of the centre line of the receiver, which will be accompanied by continuous beeping.
  •  If the laser line is located below the centre line level of the receiver, this will be accompanied by an intermittent beeping sound with a lower frequency. If this happens, move the receiver lower so that the laser line reaches the level of the centre line of the receiver, which will be accompanied by continuous beeping.

Safety information, maintenance, storage

ATTENTION

  •  Protect the device against impacts and falls (mechanical impacts).
  •  Protect the receiver against the ingression of water, rain and against dust.
  •  Prevent the device from coming into contact with organic solvents and their fumes.
  •  If the device has its volume set to a higher level, hold it at a sufficiently safe distance from your ears since the high tone may damage hearing. The highest volume is automatically set when the device is turned on, however, the sound can be lowered or turned off entirely.
  •  When using a laser device, follow the safety instructions for self-levelling laser devices.
  • The device creates an electromagnetic field during operation, which may negatively affect the operation of active or  passive medical implants (pacemakers) and threaten the life of the user. Prior to using this device, ask a doctor or the manufacturer of the implant, whether you may work with this device.
  •  For cleaning the surface of the device, use a damp cloth, prevent water from entering the device. Do not use abrasive cleaning products or organic solvents to clean the device. This would result in damage to the outer plastic housing of the device.
  •  Store the device in a safe location that is out of reach of children where temperatures do not exceed 40°. Protect the device against direct sunlight, radiant heat sources, high humidity and ingression of water. When not using the device for an extended period of time, remove the batteries. Do not store the device in freezing temperatures with the batteries inserted inside.

MEANINGS OF MARKINGS ON THE DEVICE

Waste disposal

PACKAGING MATERIALS

Throw packaging materials into a container for the respective sorted waste.

ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AND BATTERIES AT THE END OF THEIR LIFETIME

According to Directive (EU) 2012/19, electrical equipment at the end of its lifetime must not be thrown out with communal waste, but rather handed over for ecological disposal at an electrical equipment collection point because it contains components that are hazardous to the environment. The batteries must be removed from the electrical equipment prior to its disposal and handed over for ecological disposal at a battery collection point separately (pursuant to Directive 2006/66 EC). Likewise, batteries must not be thrown out with household waste since they contain environmentally hazardous substances. You can find information about electrical equipment and battery collection points and collection conditions from your vendor or at your local town council office.
