Instruction Manual
Please read these instructions before use and retain them for future reference.
SAFETY
- No naked flame sources such as lighted candles should be placed on the apparatus.
- Where the mains plug or an appliance coupler is used as the disconnect device, the disconnect device will remain readily operable.
- Excessive sound pressure from earphones and headphones can cause hearing loss.
- It shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing and that no objects filled with liquids, such as vases, shall be placed on the apparatus.
- Ensure minimum distances around the apparatus for sufficient ventilation. The ventilation should not be impeded by covering the ventilation openings with items, such as newspapers, tablecloths, curtains, etc.
- Attention should be drawn to the environmental aspects of battery disposal.
- The use of apparatus in tropical and/or moderate climates.
- The danger of explosion if the battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type.
- Batteries shall not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire, or the like.
- Do not place the product in closed bookcases or racks without proper ventilation.
- To prevent possible hearing damage, do not listen at high volume levels for long periods.

BATTERY OPERATION
To use the appliance with batteries ensure that the AC power cord is NOT
inserted into the appliance and install the batteries into the battery
compartment (15). To install the batteries: 3.1 Lift off the
battery compartment cover from the rear of the unit.
3.2 Insert 4x Size “C” / UM-2 / LR14 (or equivalent)1.5 V heavy-duty
alkaline batteries in accordance with the diagram in the battery compartment.
Take care to observe the correct polarity (+/ -).
3.3 Refit the battery compartment cover.
Note
- Dispose of batteries responsibly at local authority household waste recycling facility.
- DO NOT dispose of batteries in a fire as the batteries may explode.
- Only use ‘C’ 1.5V batteries in this appliance.
- Be sure to insert correctly taking care to observe the correct polarity (+ and −).
- Use only batteries of the same or equivalent type as recommended.
- Do not recharge non-rechargeable batteries.
- Never mix old and new batteries (replace all batteries at the same time).
- Never try to dismantle batteries.
- Do not short circuit the supply terminals.
- Always remove exhausted or dead batteries from the product, do not dispose of in fire.
- Remove batteries from the product before extended storage.
- Turn off the unit before the change of batteries.
- Set all the memories again after the change of batteries.
MAINS OPERATION
Fit the AC power cord into the AC socket (14) of the appliance and plug it into the household socket.
TIME SETTING
5.1 In standby mode, press and hold the TIME SET (11) button. The clock
indicates with a blink on the display for 5 seconds.
5.2 Whilst the clock is blinking, select the right time by pressing the
HOUR SET (6) / MINUTE SET (7) buttons.
5.3 Press the TIME SET (11) button to confirm the setting. (Hour and
minute digits will become solid when finished.)
USING THE RADIO
6.1 Press the POWER (3) button to turn the radio on.
6.2 Press the BAND (5) selector to select the desired band.
6.3 Manual Tuning – Press UP ▲ (6) / DOWN ▼ (7) tuning buttons to start
manual scan upwards or downwards until the frequency of the desired station
appears.
6.4 Automatic Tuning
- Press and hold the UP ▲ (6) / DOWN ▼ (7) tuning buttons for more than one second to start an automatic scan of the subsequent or previous station.
- Press and hold the UP ▲ (6) / DOWN ▼ (7) tuning buttons again for more than one second to reactivate the automatic scan until you tune in to the desired station.
6.5 Adjust the volume to the desired level by rotating the VOLUME CONTROL
(12) knob.
Note
- The built-in AM and the external FM antennas are directional. If tuning into an FM station extends or move the antenna (2) for better reception. If tuning into an AM station rotates the whole unit after tuning to obtain the best reception.
MEMORIZING RADIO STATIONS
10 preset stations could be stored for each of the bands (FM and AM (MW)
bands).
7.1 Turn the radio on.
7.2 Tune in to the desired station.
7.3 Press and hold the MEMORY (11) button. “MEMO” will blink on the
display.
7.4 To program the “1 to 5” stations, press one of the “1 to 5” PRESET
(8) buttons on which you wish to memorize the station you have tuned into.
To program the “6 to 10” stations, press the “+ 5” PRESET (9) button first and
“+5” will blink on display, then press one of the “1 to 5” PRESET (8) buttons.
7.5 Press the MEMORY (11) button again to store the station.
NOTE: Pre-set, saved radio stations are deleted after disconnection from the
power supply. If you put the batteries inside the battery compartment before
disconnection from the power supply, the saved radio stations will not be
deleted
RECALL PRESET RADIO STATIONS
To recall memorized stations, simply press one of the PRESET (8) buttons for program “1 to 5” or PRESET (9) button and then one of the PRESET (8) buttons for the program “6 to 10”.
SLEEP MODE
You can use the sleep timer function to turn off the radio automatically after
a preset duration (up to 90 minutes).
9.1 Press the SLEEP (4) button. The “SLEEP” indication and the automatic
turn-off time (90 minutes) will appear on the display.
9.2 If you wish to reduce the turn-off time, press the SLEEP (4) button
in sequence (the duration will diminish in 10-minute intervals down to 0).
9.3 The radio will turn off automatically after the selected preset
duration has elapsed.
9.4 To check the remaining playing time, press the SLEEP (4) button once.
9.5 If you wish to turn the radio off before reaching the automatic turn-
off time, press the POWER (3) button.
ALARM MODE
10.1 In standby mode, press and hold the ALARM ON/OFF (10) button until
the hour and minute digits indication blinks on the display.
10.2 Press the HOUR SET (6) button to set the hours and MINUTE SET (7)
button to set the minutes. Press the ALARM ON/OFF (10) button to confirm the
alarm time.
10.3 Press the ALARM ON/OFF (10) button to turn on the alarm and the
“ALARM” indication will appear on the display.
10.4 To check the set alarm time, press and hold the ALARM ON/OFF (10)
button.
10.5 To cancel the alarm, just press the ALARM ON/OFF (10) button once
more and the “ALARM” indication will disappear.
10.6 When the alarm time is reached, the buzzer will sound unless the
alarm function is disabled.
KEY LOCK SWITCH
11.1 Set the KEY LOCK (17) switch to “ON” (the “LOCK” indication will
appear on the display). This mode enables you to deactivate the unit’s
buttons.
11.2 Set the switch to “OFF” to cancel the mode.
USING HEADPHONES (not included)
A headphone jack has been provided so that the set can be used without disturbing others. Plug in the 3.5 mm headphones at the point marked ‘ ’. Turn the listening volume to the lowest setting before adjusting the volume up to your chosen level. Excessive sound pressure from earphones and headphones can cause hearing loss. The speaker will not operate when headphones are fitted.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Wipe external surfaces with a soft cloth. If the casing is very dirty, unplug from the mains supply and use a damp cloth soaked in a weak solution of washing up liquid and water. Allow drying thoroughly before reusing.
