**Installation Instructions for Road Glide Fairing

**

  1. Park on a level surface, allow the motorcycle to cool.

  2. Remove the four windshield screws, Fig.1, remove the windshield trim and windshield.

  3. Lift the front edge of the upper dash cover vent to disengage plastic clips and remove, Fig.1.

  4. Use a plastic pry tool to remove both speaker grills by disengaging the plastic clips, Fig.2.

  5. Unplug the turn signal wiring harness on each side of the fairing located at the upper left and right side of the fairing, Fig.3.

  6. On both sides of the motorcycle, plug a supplied wire harness in-line with the turn signal wire harness using the short leads.

  7. Connect the Fang Lower Fairing Lights to the longer lead of the wiring harness to test the light and familiarize yourself with how it functions. Disconnect the Fang Lower Fairing Light from the wire harness and disconnect the supplied wire harness from the turn signal wire harness, set aside and continue installation.

  8. Look into the speaker cavity from the side of the motorcycle through the inner fairing to locate the hole at the bottom of the fairing, Fig.4. The hole is in front of the fairing support bracket when looking at the bottom of the fairing, Fig.5a and Fig.5b. Feed the long lead of one of the supplied wire harnesses through the inner fairing so that the connector comes out hole. Repeat on opposite side.

Continue to Page 2 for light mounting instructions.

  9. Route the Fang Lower Fairing Light wire to the previously installed wire harness by following the engine guard to the fairing support bracket, making sure that it will not be pinched or melted. Connect the light wire to the wire harness outside of the bottom of the fairing, then push the connector up into the fairing after the connection has been made. Use the supplied cable ties and cable tie retainers where appropriate for your application to secure the wires.

  10. Feed the opposite end of the wire harness alongside the speaker into the upper area of the inner fairing to the turn signal wire harness, Fig.16. Plug the supplied wire harness in-line with the turn signal wire harness.

  11. Repeat on the opposite side of the motorcycle.

  12. Reinstall the speaker grills, upper dash cover, windsheild and windshield trim with the previously removed hardware in reverse order

Installation Instructions for Batwing Fairing:

  1. Park on a level surface, allow the motorcycle to cool.

  2. Starting with one side of the motorcycle, remove the two acorn nuts
securing the light bar to the fork, Fig.6.

  3. Unplug the wire(s) and set the light bar aside.

  4. Push the 4-pin connector, Fig.7, back into the fairing, past the fork and out the back of the fairing. Plug the male end of the short lead of one of the supplied wire harnesses into the 4-pin connector. Route the wire harness back into the fairing, around the fork and feed the plug of the shorter lead of the supplied wire harness back through the hole in the fairing. Keep the longer lead of the supplied wire harness out the back of the fairing.

  5. Connect the Fang Lower Fairing Light to the longer lead of the wire harness to test the light and familiarize yourself with how it functions.
Disconnect the Fang Lower Fairing Light, set aside and continue installation.

  6. Plug the light bar wire(s) into the wire harness and reinstall the light bar.

  7. Install the two previously removed light bar acorn nuts. Tighten to 10 15 ft-lbs (120-180 in-lbs).

  8. Repeat steps 2-7 on the opposite side of the motorcycle.

  9. Route the Fang Lower Fairing Light wires to the previously installed wire harness by following the engine guard to the motorcycle frame, up into the fairing, making sure that it will not be pinched or melted and will have adaquete slack to accomodate for the handlebars being turned to full lock in both directions. Connect the light wire to the wire harness. Use the supplied cable ties and cable tie retainers where appropriate for your application to secure the wires.

Light mounting instructions
  1. Starting with one side of the motorcycle, use a plastic pry tool to remove the lower fairing front panel, Fig.8.

  2. Remove or open the rear lower fairing door.

  3. Remove the nut indicated in Fig.9, remove the top cover from the front of the lower fairing.

  4. Remove the nut, rubber washer and bolt from the bottom of the lower fairing that secures the P-clamp, Fig.10.

  5. Remove the two nuts securing the bracket that mount the lower fairing to the engine guard, remove the bracket, Fig.11.

  6. Push the lower fairing back from the engine guard, take care to protect painted surfaces.

  7. Remove the three screws at the top of the lower fairing, Fig.12. Push the lower fairing back into its normal position inside the engine guard.

  8. For Twin Cooled models
8a. Separate the front and back half of the lower fairing and place a block between them to keep them separated during drilling, Fig.13.
    For Air Cooled models
8b. Remove the back compartment of the lower fairing from the front.

Use extreme care when drilling through the fairing lower so that the drill bit does not penetrate any further than necessary in order to prevent damage to the radiator and other surrounding parts.

  1. A slot will need to be drilled in the lower fairing for the wire of the light to pass through. Place a piece of tape on the lower fairing in the location shown in Fig.14. Draw a line following the horizontal contour of the body line of the painted part of the lower fairing, Fig.14. Hold the corresponding side Fang Lower Fairing Light (see note below) in place of where it will be installed, look down the back of the light and note where the wire lands. Mark the center of the left/right position of the wire, Fig.14. Measure 5/32” up and down from the horizontal mark and mark both measurements to create two points 5/16” apart from each other on the vertical center mark, Fig.14

  2. Use a center punch on both marks made in Step 9, Fig.14.

  3. While holding the lower fairing secuerly in place, use a “step drill” to drill a 3/8” hole on both punch marks to create a slot. Use caution when drilling the second hole as the holes may overlap, make sure the drill bit does not “walk” if they merge.

  4. Use a file to remove the leftover material between the two drilled holes, Fig.15.

  5. The block may be removed at this time. Remove the drilling tape. Using the matching side Fang Lower Fairing Light (see note below), feed the connector through the hole, pulling the wire until the light is up against the lower fairing.

  6. Thoroughly clean the surface where the Fang Lower Fairing Light will be placed with an ammonia based cleaner. Hold the light in place and determine where the light sits best on the lower fairing following the contour of the front panel, making sure the adhesive fully contacts the lower fairing, about 3/16” below the corner. Remove the adhesive backer from the light and firmly stick it in place, applying pressure for 60 seconds. Adhesive fully cures within 24 hours.

  7. For Twin Cooled models
15a. Route the wire through the inside of the lower fairing following the coolant hose, exiting the lower fairing where the coolant hose comes out of the lower fairing. Using supplied cable ties and cable tie retainers, secure the wire in place inside the lower fairing.
    For Air Cooled models
15b. Route the wire through the inside of the lower fairing, exiting the lower fairing near the engine guard. Using supplied cable ties and cable tie retainers, secure the wire in place inside the lower fairing.

  8. Pull the lower fairing back out of the engine guard. Reassemble the front and back of the lower fairing and reinstall the three previously removed screws.

  9. Push the lower fairing back into its original position in the engine guard and loosely reinstall the previously removed bracket and two nuts.

  10. Loosely reinstall the P-clamp and previously removed bolt, rubber washer and nut at the bottom of the lower fairing.

  11. Fully tighten the upper bracket nuts and lower P-clamp.

  12. Reinstall the top, front cover and previously removed nut.

  13. Reinstall or close the rear lower fairing door.

  14. Reinstall the lower fairing front panel.

  15. Repeat on opposite side of motorcycle
