Mounting frame for FIAT Ducato III, Series 8 vehicles

The separately available mounting frame N-XFDUC8 is required for installing the Z-E3766. This mounting frame replaces the two-piece metal mounting frame set supplied with the Z-E3766 device. The mounting frame N-XFDUC8 is pushed onto the Z-E3766 device via its back end. Next, frame is affixed to device applying two M5x6 screws on left and right side. This pre-assembled combo is used to replace the ex-works mounted frame of the vehicle with “radio preparation”.

Connection of steering wheel buttons (analog signals, via red mini-ISO

connector)

The rear steering wheel buttons (3 buttons each on the left and right side) are connected to the device via mini-ISO connector, which connects Key1/2/GND over the adapter cable supplied with the Z-E3766. The two telephone buttons and the voice button on the front side of the steering wheel are only present as LIN bus signals in separate non accessible wires, which prevents telephone button function integration over the existing analogue wiring. Integration of Telephone and voice buttons is solved with a “double function assignment” of the rear middle buttons, allowing to accept and end calls, as well as start Apple Siri or Google voice assistant over the control buttons located on the steering wheel backside. From software version: v1.2.8, the SWC connection (buttons) is preset for Fiat Ducato III Series 8 models “Mode-2”

The connection and setting options described above on the FIAT Ducato Series 8 are present on the Z-E3766 devices from production date September 2021 and start with the serial number: Z-E3766#0921xxxx
Devices with a production date before Sep. 2021 do not support the Ducato Series 8 steering wheel buttons on the hardware side; a separately available CAN IR Stalk Interface can be used to resolve this limitation. (like for example the item N-XFDUC-SWC1)

Note: When installing in Fiat Ducato III Series 7 (previous one), Citroen Jumper and Peugeot Boxer, then the SWC connection must be switched back to Mode-1 in the device settings: [Setup] ➔[Misc] ➔ [SWC Assignment] ➔ [ ]„Mode-1“ (see pic above).

Handbrake signal (Parking)

To set up Apple CarPlay and Android-Auto for the first time, as well as other device functions, the vehicle needs the status signal “stationary” (parking), which is normally given by connecting the parking cable to the handbrake. In vehicles with an electronic parking brake, this signal is no longer present and can therefore not be used any longer. The Z-E3766 uses – again from from software v1.2.8 – the GPS signal to determine the vehicle status “stationary / mobile”, therefore the wired parking connection is no longer required.
