Hannibal Abseil Eight With Brake Bars
Product Information
The product is a manual braking device that complies with EN 15151-2, type 2, designed for lowering and abseiling in canyoning. It is suitable for use with dynamic ropes according to EN 892 for lead climbing and static ropes for securing with rope deflection or lowering/abseiling of a person. The device must be attached to the binding loop of the climbing harness by means of a carabiner with automatic gate.
Product-Specific Notes
- The braking effect must be checked prior to every use.
- When using low or substantially worn ropes, abseiling or lowering of a person requires sensitive operation of the brake rope.
- Smooth ropes, moisture, or icing may negatively influence the braking effect of the device.
- The brake rope must be held completely with the braking hand at all times.
General Safety Instructions
- The product must be discarded immediately if there is even the slightest doubt as to its serviceability.
- The product must be kept away from damaging environments, including contact with abrasive and aggressive substances, extreme temperatures, and flying sparks.
- The lifespan of the product mainly depends on the way and frequency in which it is used and external influences. When the usable period has elapsed or latest at the end of the maximum service life, the product must be removed from use.
Product Lifespan
The maximum lifespan under optimal storage conditions and without use has no known limitations. For occasional and appropriate use without obvious wear and tear and with optimal storage, the lifespan is 10 years. If used intensively on a daily basis and at very high workloads, with dirty ropes, the lifespan is approximately 1-2 years.
Product Usage Instructions
- Before use, check the device for signs of damage such as cracks or corrosion, and ensure its fitness for use and proper functioning.
- Choose an appropriate anchor point and attach the device to the binding loop of the climbing harness by means of a carabiner with automatic gate.
- For lead climbing, use only dynamic ropes according to EN 892. For securing with rope deflection or lowering/abseiling of a person, static ropes may be used. Avoid sagging of the rope.
- Prior to every use, check the brake effect and sensitivity of the brake rope. If no braking effect is detectable, although the rope has been inserted correctly, the device must not be used.
- Hold the brake rope completely with the braking hand at all times.
- If the device has dropped and hit the ground from high altitude, extreme grooving and/or deformation has occurred, or the device is damaged or malfunctions, it must be removed from service immediately.
- After use, check the device for signs of damage or wear and tear. Store the product in optimal storage conditions to prolong its lifespan.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USAGE, SAFETY, LIFESPAN, STORAGE AND CARE
This information leaflet contains important information which must be under-
stood before the product is used.
Mountaineering, climbing and working at heights and in depths often harbour
hidden dangers and risks caused by external influences. Risk of accidents can
never be excluded. For more detailed and comprehensive information, please
refer to relevant special literature. The following instructions are important
to ensure appropriate and correct use of the equipment. However, they cannot
replace experience, responsible behaviour and awareness of the risks inherent
in mountaineering, climbing and working at heights and in depths and do not
release the user from any personal responsibility.
Use of the equipment is only permitted to fit and experienced individuals or
under appropriate guidance and tuition.
Prior to first use the user must familiarize in safe surroundings with the
function of the device.
The manufacturer cannot be held liable if the equipment has been abused or
used incorrectly. All risks and responsibilities are borne by the user at all
times. The responsibility and risk in all cases lie with the user or persons
responsible for him.
Functional and Safety Check
Before starting securing, check correct insertion and trouble-free function as
well as the brake effect.
When the rope diameter is low or if substantially worn larger diameter ropes
are used, abseiling or lowering of a person requires sensitive operation of
the brake rope.
Smooth ropes, moisture or icing may negatively influence the braking effect of
the device. The braking effect must be checked prior to every use. If no
braking effect is detectable, although the rope has been inserted correctly,
the device must not be used.
ATTENTION – At all time the brake rope must be held completely with the
braking hand!
Rope types to be used
For lead climbing exclusively use dynamic ropes according to EN 892. Use of
static ropes is allowed for securing with rope deflection (top roping) or for
lo-wering/abseiling of a person only, but not for securing of a lead climber!
Avo-id sagging of the rope.
Attaching to the Climbing Harness
The device must be attached to the binding loop of the climbing harness by
means of a carabiner with automatic gate.

SAFETY NOTICES
When combining this product with other components, the safety aspects of the
products may interfere with each other.
Before and after use, check the device for signs of damage (e. g. cracks or
corrosion); ensure its fitness for use and proper functioning. The equipment
must be discarded immediately if there is even the slightest doubt as to its
serviceability.
Warning! The products must be kept away from damaging environments. This
includes contact with abrasive and aggressive substances (e.g. acids, alkalis,
soldering water, oils, cleaning agents), as well as extreme temperatures and
flying sparks.
CLIMATE REQUIREMENTS
The permanent use temperature of the product (in dry condition) ranges from
approx. 30°C to +60°C.
LIFESPAN AND REPLACEMENT
The lifespan of the product mainly depends mainly on the way and frequency in
which it is used and external influences.
When the usable period has elapsed or latest at the end of the maximum ser-
vice life, the product must be removed from use.
Maximum lifespan under optimal storage conditions (see section on Storage) and
without use: No limitations known.
Occasional use: Occasional and appropriate use without obvious wear (Use with clean ropes) and tear and with optimal storage:10 years.
Frequent or extreme use
If used intensively on a daily basis and at very high work load, with dirty
ropes approx. 1 – 2 years.
Be sure to remove the securing device from service immediately
- If it has dropped and hit the ground from high altitude,
- If extreme grooving and/or deformation has occurred,
- If the device is damaged or malfunctions.
STORAGE AND CARE
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry, dark place outside transport containers. Avoid contact with chemicals (caution: battery acid!)
- Cleaning: Clean soiled products in luke-warm water (if necessary, use pH-neutral soap).
- Warning! Failure to follow these instructions may endanger life!
