FAQs

  • Q: What should I do if the net sags during initial use?
    • A: The Flex Net may stretch initially, causing sagging. Increase tension to remove the sag during the break-in period.
  • Q: How far should the upright standards be installed from the court boundaries?
    • A: NCAA and NFHS rules recommend installing the upright standards at least 3’3″ (1m) outside the court boundaries, with Jaypro recommending a 36′ spacing on the center.

Safety

  • WARNING: Do not attempt to remove the height adjuster pin if the net is under tension.
  • WARNING: Always use protective padding around each upright during use.
  • WARNING: Uprights are heavy. Do not attempt to lift or install without assistance.
  • IMPORTANT: Follow all warning labels on equipment.
  • IMPORTANT: Inspect for damage before and after each use.

Introduction

Note: The Flex Net supplied with this system will stretch slightly during the first few uses. This is a natural consequence of the headband fibers being stretched under tension. During this break-in period, the headband and net body may sag during use. Simply increase tension to remove the sag.

  • These instructions assume that the appropriate ground sleeves have been correctly installed:
  • The inside bottom surface of the ground sleeves must be 10” below ground level (Figure 3-1).
  • The PVB-1500 and PVB-5000 standards will fit most 3-1/2” inner diameter ground sleeves (or 4” ID sleeves with adapter).
  • The PVB 4500 will fit most 3’’ inner diameter ground sleeves.
  • The Flex-Net will work with ground sleeves spaced 35’ to 37’ apart on center1.
  • Please consult the instructions and specifications supplied with your ground sleeves for more information.
  • If you require additional information or support to install or operate your volleyball system, please contact the Jaypro Sports customer support team, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM (EST), at 1-800-243-0533.
  • NCAA and NFHS rules require that the upright standards must be installed at least 3’3” (1m) outside the court boundaries. Jaypro recommends 36’ spacing on the center to satisfy both regulations.

Assembly

WARNING: Uprights are heavy. Do not attempt to lift or install without assistance.

  1. Install each upright into the ground sleeves.
  2. Follow the instructions included with a winch to set the winch clamp to the correct upright diameter (3-1/2”).
  3. Install the winch to one upright using the button head cap screw and acorn nut (Figure 6-1, items 1 & 2).
  4. Fasten the clamp together using the cap screws supplied with the winch (Figure 6-1, item 4-1).Jaypro-Sports-PVB-1500-Series-Hybrid-Steel-Net-System-FIG- \(7\)
  5. Install the anchor strap to the upright without the winch (Figure 6-2).Jaypro-Sports-PVB-1500-Series-Hybrid-Steel-Net-System-FIG- \(8\)
  6. Set the height of the uprights using the installed height adjust pin (Figure 6-3).
    • WARNING: Do not attempt to remove the height adjuster pin if the net is under tension.Jaypro-Sports-PVB-1500-Series-Hybrid-Steel-Net-System-FIG- \(9\)
  7. Attach one end of the net to the anchor strap, then attach the other end to the winch strap (Figure 6-4). For alternative net PVBN-5, see net install from this point.Jaypro-Sports-PVB-1500-Series-Hybrid-Steel-Net-System-FIG- \(10\)
  8. Adjust the length of the anchor strap as necessary to center the net on the court. The net will stretch ~6 – 8 inches when tension is applied so you must factor this in before applying tension when centering the net.
  9. Tension the net by turning the winch handle clockwise2.Adjust the anchor strap as necessary to keep the net centered.
  10. Verify net heights and net centering. The uprights will deflect inward and downward due to net tension; you may need to adjust their heights and/or re-center the net.
    • WARNING: Release tension from the net before removing the height adjust pin.
  11. Attach the bottom net straps to each upright as shown in Figure 6-5. Wrap Velcro straps around buckles for additional player safety.Jaypro-Sports-PVB-1500-Series-Hybrid-Steel-Net-System-FIG- \(11\)
  12. Attach net antennae and tapes according to instructions included with the antennae set.
  13. Install pads around each upright.

Maintenance

Your PVB Series Collegiate Net System is designed to provide years of play; however, it is recommended that the components be inspected at least once every season, for signs of excessive wear. Key areas to inspect include (but are not limited to):

  • Strap webbing
  • Net
  • Spring clips and D-rings
  • Winch mechanism
  • Screws and nuts

NCAA and NFHS rules stipulate that there be no more than ¾” of sag in the net headband when fully tensioned.
