SCOPE
This product instruction manual contains information about the proper use of the RAUTOOL™ A-light2 Kombi compression-sleeve tool (A-light2 Kombi). To receive maximum performance and satisfaction from your A-light2 Kombi, and to reduce the risk of injury or property damage from its use, it is important that you read, understand and follow the instructions and warnings found in this manual.
The A-light2 Kombi is designed exclusively for the assembly and installation
of REHAU SDR11 compression-sleeve fittings (SDR11 fittings), REHAU SDR11
polymer compression-sleeves and REHAU MLP™ multi-layer carrier pipe (carrier
pipe). This tool is intended to be used with the REHAU SDR11 expander heads
and compression jaws in sizes 25 mm and 40 mm. Use for other purposes or with
other systems is prohibited.
For professional use only. Persons using the A-light2 Kombi must be
experienced and appropriately licensed professional contractors who understand
the principles and practices associated with the proper installation of
hydronic systems.
The information presented in this product instruction manual is intended to
demonstrate the proper use and function of the A-light2 Kombi. Allow only
persons who fully understand this manual to operate the A-light2 Kombi tool.
Do not lend or rent the power tool without this instruction manual.
Nothing in this manual supersedes national or local code requirements or the
recommendations of other manufacturers regarding their components. Observe all
applicable national, state and local laws, regulations, standards, codes and
ordinances. If you believe REHAU product information conflicts with applicable
code requirements, industry standards, or the recommendations of other
manufacturers regarding their components, contact your local Mitsubishi
distributor or Mitsubishi Electric sales representative and consult with the
building authority having jurisdiction before installing SDR11 fittings.
Before starting the installation process, read the REHAU Isoflow Multi
Insulated Hydronic Pipe Product Instructions for information regarding the
assembly of the carrier pipe and SDR11 fittings with this tool.
Proper installation is the responsibility of the installing contractor.

Only trained personnel should operate the A-light2 Kombi tool. Follow the instructions in this manual and use common sense to reduce the risk of injury.
WARNING

battery and charger before operation.
WARNING
This power tool uses a strong hydraulic force to expand carrier pipe and
compress components of the SDR11 compression-sleeve system.
To reduce the risk of crush and laceration injury, keep fingers, hands and all
parts of your body away from the expander head, hydraulic slide and
compression jaws during operation. Remove the battery before attempting to
change or adjust the expander head or compression jaws.
NOTICE
For use only with REHAU MLP pipe and REHAU SDR11 compressionsleeve fittings
and polymer compression sleeves. Other materials or fittings may crack or
otherwise fail which could result in leaking and property damage.
Use only REHAU or REHAU-approved expander heads and compression jaws that
match the dimension of the REHAU MLP pipe being installed (e.g., 25 mm
expander head and compression jaws for 25 mm pipe). Use of unauthorized
attachments or REHAU attachments that are the wrong size may result in faulty
joints, which can lead to leaking and property damage.
POWER TOOL SAFETY WARNINGS
GENERAL POWER TOOL SAFETY WARNINGS
This chapter contains the prescribed, general safety warnings and instructions
for handheld, motor-operated electric power tools.
Additional important warnings and instructions are found in subsequent
sections of this manual.
WARNING
- Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
- Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.
WORK AREA SAFETY
- Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
- Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
- Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool.
Distractions can cause you to lose control.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
- Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce the risk of electric shock.
- Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
- Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
- Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
- When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
PERSONAL SAFETY

Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.

Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection.
Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries. -
Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energizing power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.

Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.

Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.

Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving parts.

If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used.
Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards. -
Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.
POWER TOOL USE AND CARE

Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.

Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off.
Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. -
Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.

Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.

Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.

Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.

Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits, etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.

Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations.
BATTERY TOOL USE AND CARE

Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer.
A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack. -
Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs.
Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire. -
When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws, or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.

Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.
SERVICE
- Have your power tools serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.

Moving parts can crush and cut. Keep hands and fingers clear of the compression jaws, hydraulic slide and expander head while operating.
Always keep hands and fingers away from the hydraulic slide and compression jaws to avoid trapping your fingers in moving parts.
The hydraulic slide and compression jaws are potential pinch points. -
Keep hands and other parts of your body away from the expander head, hydraulic slide and compression jaws during operation to reduce the risk of injury. Avoid wearing bulky gloves that may become caught in the compression jaws or make handling the tool awkward or difficult.

To reduce the risk of unintended activation, remove the battery before changing or adjusting the expander head or compression jaws. Pinching fingers or trapping other parts of your body in the expander head, hydraulic slide and compression jaws can result in serious crush and cut injuries.

For use only with REHAU or REHAU-authorized accessories or attachments. Although certain unauthorized accessories and attachments may fit onto the power tool, their use may, in fact, be extremely dangerous and result in personal injury and faulty joints, which can lead to leaking and property damage.

For proper installation, the expander head and compression jaws must match the dimension of the REHAU MLP pipe being installed.Failure to mount the proper size expander head and compression jaws before installing a fitting may be dangerous and also result in a faulty joint, which can lead to leaking and property damage.

For use only with REHAU MLP pipe and REHAU SDR11 compression-sleeve fittings and polymer compression sleeves. Other materials or fittings may crack or otherwise fail, which could result in leaking and substantial property damage.

If your power tool or any part is damaged or does not function properly, have it repaired at an authorized service center. There are no user-authorized repairs for the battery, charger or power tool. Do not use the power tool until the problem has been corrected. For repairs, contact your local distributor or Mitsubishi Electric Sales Representative. To reduce the risk of personal injury from accidental activation of the power tool, always remove the battery pack before changing attachments, inspecting, cleaning, lubricating or performing any other type of maintenance, inspection, repair or cleaning.

Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery pack or tool outside the temperature range specified in the instructions.
Charging improperly or at temperatures outside the specified range may damage the battery and increase the risk of fire. -
Do not expose the battery pack or tool to fire or excessive temperature.Exposure to fire or temperature above 265°F (130°C) may cause explosion.

Do not use a battery pack or tool that is damaged or modified.
Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behavior, resulting in fire, explosion or increased risk of injury. -
Never service damaged battery packs. Service of battery packs should only be performed by the manufacturer or authorized service providers.

Do not operate the power tool while under the influence of any substance (drug, alcohol, medication, etc.) that might impair vision, balance, dexterity or judgment.

Working with a power tool can be strenuous. The operator must be in good physical condition. To reduce the risk of injury from loss of control, be alert. Do not operate the power tool when tired. Take a break if you become tired. Always hold the tool firmly while working as directed in the instruction manual.

Make sure you have good balance and secure footing at all times.
Use caution when working from a ladder or other elevated platform.

compression jaws in sizes 25 mm and 40 mm.

TOOL DIAGNOSTICS
Checking the Tool Status
The red/white LEDs and the signal tone together with the electronic control
system serves to provide information about the battery charge levels and the
tool.

Charging the Battery
WARNING
To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or other personal injury, operate
the charger indoors only, in dry rooms within an ambient temperature range of
50°F to 104°F (10°C to 40°C). Read and follow all warnings and instructions
for the battery and charger before operation.
USING THE TOOL
WARNING
To reduce the risk of permanent eye injury, always wear close-fitting
protective eye wear with side protection. Eye wear must be impact-rated and
marked as complying with ANSI Z87.1.
WARNING
Moving parts can crush and cut. This power tool uses a strong hydraulic force
to expand REHAU MLP pipe and compress components of the REHAU SDR11
compression-sleeve fittings and polymer compression sleeves.
To reduce the risk of serious personal injury during operation:
– Keep hands and other parts of your body away from the expander head,
hydraulic slide and compression jaws.

Check the tool and all of its components for damage or visible
wear prior to every use. Never use a tool or attachment that is worn, damaged, or modified. -
Remove battery before assembling the tool. Release the battery by pressing the button and sliding it out of the battery guide at the base of the tool.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of serious personal injury from accidental activation of the power tool:
– Always remove the battery pack before mounting or changing the expansion adapter, expander head or compression jaws. -
Slide the compression jaws onto the tool cylinder. When installing the compression jaws, always slide the long compression jaw onto the hydraulic cylinder first, followed by the short compression jaw.

Fix the compression jaws with the pins. When installing the compression jaws, ensure both the short jaw and the long jaw are orientated in the same direction (i.e. 25 mm diameter jaws positioned upward).
Always push the pins in all the way.

Rotate the hydraulic slide. If necessary, the hydraulic slide can be rotated to make it easier to compress the fitting assembly.

Attach expander head (manual expander tool). When attaching the expander head, open expander completely. Lock expander head into position. Make certain expander head secures with an audible click.

Attach expander head (power tool). Ensure expansion cone is fully retracted. Lock expander head into position. Make certain expander head secures with an audible click.
To expand 40 mm pipe, insert the 40 mm expander bit into the 40 mm compression jaws. Slide front of expander bit into jaws and then apply pressure from back with thumb until expander bit fully clicks into place. -
Insert battery. To insert the battery, push it completely into the foot of the tool housing until it locks into position

For use only with Makita battery BL1840B -
Use the expansion function. With the expander head in the direction of the operating trigger, press the operating trigger for expansion. The power tool is designed for one-handed operation.
Wrap your fingers tightly around the control handle and keep a secure grasp on the tool during work.

Use the compression function. With the hydraulic slide in the direction of the operating trigger, press the operating trigger for compression. The power tool is designed for one-handed operation.

WARNING
To reduce the risk of crush or cut injury, remove index finger from trigger before rotating the tool head. -
Inspect working area for proper space. Clear working area of the tool. Arrow in the area of the marking (+/- 45° swing range) for both the expansion and compression function of the tool

Use the trigger for expansion or compression. The power tool is designed for one-handed operation. Wrap your fingers tightly around the control handle as shown and keep a secure grasp on the tool during work.
WARNING
Improper handling of the power tool can increase the risk of pinch or crush injury. The tool is designed for one-handed operation and there are no gripping surfaces outside of the control handle. To reduce the risk of serious personal injury:
– Wrap your fingers tightly around the control handle as shown in this manual and keep a secure grasp on the tool during work.
– Use only your index finger to trigger the tool. Using other fingers to trigger the tool may cause you to lose control of the power tool or increase risk of personal injury, including pinch injuries.
– Keep hands away from the expander head, hydraulic slide and compression jaws during operation -
Expand REHAU MLP pipe. To expand REHAU MLP pipe, fully insert expander head into the end of the pipe. Expand pipe twice, ensuring the expander head is rotated 1/2 of one expander head segment between expansions.

Compress SDR11 polymer sleeve. To compress the SDR11 polymer sleeve, place the fitting, pipe and sleeve assembly between compression jaws as shown. It may be necessary to control the pipe during installation. Be sure to keep your hands and fingers clear of moving parts.

To release the hydraulic pressure and return tool to its starting position, press the release button.
WARNING
In the event of a pinch or unintended compression, release the hydraulic pressure with the release button. -
Return tool to starting position. Always return tool to the starting position and remove the battery before installing/removing the expander bit, expander head or compression jaws.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of personal injury from accidental activation of the power tool, always remove the battery pack before changing or adjusting the expander head, expander bit or compression jaws, and before performing any other type of inspection, maintenance or cleaning.
FITTING ASSEMBLY

OPERATING AND WORKING CONDITIONS
NOTICE

The sound of the relief valve and the piston automatically retracting indicates a completed cycle. If you do not hear the sound of the relief valve, or if the piston does not retract, remove the battery and inspect the assembled joint. If the condition does not resolve after adjustment, have the tool repaired by an authorized REHAU service center before use.

To prevent the motor from overheating, let the tool rest for at least 15 minutes after approximately 50 consecutive cycles.

Keep the tool, battery and charger away from moisture, extreme heat and harsh detergents or solvents.

Never operate the power tool in damp or wet conditions. Never operate in the rain or submerge it in water or other liquids.

Never operate the tool near wires or cables carrying electric current.

Never operate the power tool in extreme hot or cold conditions.
Operating at temperatures below 14°F (-10°C) and above 104°F (40°C) may result in damage to the power tool. -
Operate the charger indoors only, in dry rooms within an ambient temperature range of 50°F to 104°F (10°C to 40°C).
NOTICE
To reduce the risk of property damage from a faulty joint:
- Never use a damaged expander head or compression jaws, which could damage the pipe and result in leaks and property damage.
- Properly rotate the power tool after the first pipe expansion. Failing to do so may result in a faulty joint, which could leak and result in property damage.
- Use only with REHAU or REHAU-authorized attachments of the proper size for the REHAU MLP pipe (e.g., 25 mm expander head and compression jaws for 25 mm. pipe). Using an unauthorized attachment or an attachment of the wrong size may result in a faulty joint, which could leak and lead to property damage.
- Read the REHAU ISOFLOW Multi Insulated Hydronic Pipe Product Instructions and all REHAU Technical Guidelines before starting the installation process.
- Operate, charge and store the tool within the recommended temperature range to prevent damage and reduce the risk of malfunction and potential injury or property damage.
INSPECTION, MAINTENANCE, CLEANING, TRANSPORTATION AND STORAGE
WARNING

- Always remove the battery pack before inspecting, cleaning, lubricating or performing any other type of maintenance on the power tool.
Regular Inspection
- Before starting work, inspect the power tool, including the
- expansion adapter, expander head, compression jaws and all accessories for damage, visible wear and malfunction (e.g., oil leaks, bent compression cylinders, damage or visible wear to the nose cone, expander head, or compression jaws).
- Using a damaged tool may result in a faulty joint, which may leak and result in property damage. A damaged or modified power tool is more likely to lead to malfunction, which can lead to personal injury and property damage.
- Never operate your power tool if it is damaged, improperly adjusted, not completely or securely assembled, or not functioning properly.
Have it repaired before use.

Maintenance

Lubricate the expansion cone regularly with the grease included in the standard kit. Prevent grease from entering the pipe being installed. Avoid over-lubricating the expansion cone. Do not apply grease to the expander head segments. Should excess grease reach the outer surface of any segment, the segment must be thoroughly cleaned with a de-greasing cleaning solvent and then dried.

Replace on-product labels that are worn, damaged or missing.
Contact your local Mitsubishi Electric sales representative for replacement labels.
Cleaning
- Keep the compression jaw sets, expander head, and the other components of the power tool clean. When soiled, clean with a brush or cloth.
Transportation
- Transport and store in the tool case supplied. Keep an expander head mounted on the expansion adapter to reduce the risk of damage, injury or contamination.
Storage
- When not in use, the power tool and its accessories should be stored indoors in a dry, locked place. To help prevent damage, store the power tool and accessories in the tool case supplied.
- Store the tool in the fully retracted position to extend its service life and with an expander head mounted on the expansion adapter to reduce the risk of damage, injury or contamination.
- Never store the tool if wet. Dry the tool and properly lubricate it before storing.
- Store the accessories in the tool case supplied to minimize the risk of damage.
NOTICE
To reduce the risk of damage, never store the tool, battery, or charger below
-4 °F (-20 °C) or above 122 °F (50 °C).
