IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using your Kenmore Digital Glass Kettle, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

  1. READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USE

  2. Before using the appliance for the first time, remove any packaging material, promo- tional labels, and stickers. Safely dispose of plastic bags or small pieces that could present a suffocation or choking hazard to young children.

  3. PLACEMENT: To protect against fire, injury, electrical shock, or property damage, observe the following safeguards:
    a. Always place the kettle on a heat-resistant surface or place heat-resistant material (ie. protective pad or ceramic tiles} under it during use;
    b. Do not use near the edge of a counter or table or on a wet or uneven surface;
    c. Do not set up on or near a hot surface such as a stovetop or cooking pot;
    d. Do not use on or near explosive and/or flammable substances such as gas or electrical burners or inside a heated oven;
    e. Do not use on a metal surface such as a sink drain board

  4. Before using, check that the voltage of the wall outlet corresponds to the one shown on the rating plate. If an extension cord is used, the marked electrical rating of the extension cord must be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance. Do not attempt to use the appliance with a voltage converter.

  5. Fully unwind cord before use. Do not let the cord become knotted, hang over the edge of a counter or table, or contact hot surfaces, such as a stovetop or cooking pot.

  6. Do not attempt to operate the appliance if there is damage to the cord or plug, after it has malfunctioned or been dropped or damaged in any way, or if it is not operating properly. Take the appliance to the nearest authorized service facility for examination and repair.

  7. Always unplug the appliance from the power source when not in use and before filling, emptying, or cleaning. To unplug, grasp plug and pull it from the electrical outlet; never unplug it by pulling on the power cord.

  8. This appliance is recommended for indoor household use only. Do not operate in moving vehicles or boats and do not operate outdoors. Using this appliance for anything other than its intended use (non-commercial household food preparation) will void your warranty.

  9. This appliance is not intended for use by persons, including children, with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, without supervision and instruction by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance

  10. Ensure the appliance is properly assembled before connecting to a power outlet and operating.

  11. Do not leave the appliance unattended while in use.

  12. To protect against electrical shock, do not immerse the kettle body, power base, control panel, power cord, or electrical plug in any liquid.

  13. Always remove the kettle from its base to fill it with water.

  14. Fill the kettle with cold water only. Do not operate with any liquid other than water.

  15. Never attempt to operate the kettle with less than the minimum amount of water (0.5L). Heating the kettle empty or with water below the MIN line may damage it.

  16. Do not fill past the MAX line (1.7L). Overfilling could cause boiling water to be eject- ed from the spout resulting in injury and/or property damage.

  17. Ensure the lid is closed before operating the kettle. Do not open the lid while the kettle is heating as this could result in scalding injury. Be very careful when opening or closing the lid while the water is still hot.

  18. Do not touch hot surfaces such as the kettle body, spout, or lid. Keep all parts of your body away from the spout when the kettle is operating as the escaping steam could cause injury.

  19. Use extreme caution when moving the kettle with hot water inside. Always lift and carry it by the body handle. Never attempt to lift the kettle by its lid.

  20. Wait for the kettle to stop boiling and shut off before removing it from the power base to pour. Tilt the kettle slowly and pour steadily from the spout with the lid closed. Tilting and pouring too quickly could result in the lid falling open.

  21. Regularly descale inside of the kettle to keep the appliance operating normally. Let the kettle cool completely before disassembling, cleaning, or descaling.

  22. Do not attempt to operate the kettle by any method other than as described in this manual. Use the kettle only with the supplied power base. Do not use the power base for any other purpose. Aftermarket attachments or accessories not recommended by Kenmore will void your warranty and may cause fire, electrical shock, or injury.

SET UP AND ASSEMBLY

Read these instructions thoroughly and save for future reference. Carefully unpack the appliance from its packaging and check that all parts are present. Remove any promotional labels or stickers and safely dispose of plastic bags or small pieces that could present a suffocation or choking hazard.

  1. Wipe outside of the kettle with a clean, damp cloth to remove any dirt or dust. Do not immerse the kettle body, power base, control panel, power cord, or electrical plug in any liquid. Do not use abrasive cleansers or scouring pads.
  2. Before first use, fill the kettle to between the MIN and MAX lines and boil according to the operating instructions on the following pages. Carefully discard the water and repeat the process once more.

USING YOUR KETTLE

NOTE: Always unpiug the kettle before emptying, filling, or adding water and never fill a cordless kettle on its base.

  1. To fill the kettle, remove it from its power base and press the lid release button to open. Fill with your desired amount of water, making sure that the water level sits above the MIN fill line (0.5L) and below the MAX fill line (1.7L). You can also fill the kettle through its spout.
    NOTE: Do not fill the kettle past the MAX fill line. Over-filling may result in boiling water being expelled from the spout, causing injury or property damage.

  2. Close the lid, pressing down firmly to ensure that it has latched. Replace the kettle on its power base, rotating it so the spout is facing away from you.

  3. Plug the kettle into a power outlet. The kettle will beep once and the control panel will turn on with all buttons illuminated and the current water temperature displayed. The temperature is displayed in °F as factory default. To switch to °C, press the + and – buttons at the same time for 4 seconds until’C’ appears.

  4. Choose your desired temperature from the four pre-sets or set temperature manually from 40-100°C (104-212°F) using the + and – buttons. The display will show your selected temperature for 2-3 seconds and then show the real-time water temperature while the kettle is heating.

  5. If the kettle is left inactive for 60 seconds at any time, it will automatically enter standby mode. The control panel will go dark except for the power button, which will pulse slowly. Exit standby mode by either touching the power button or lifting and replacing the kettle on the base.
    NOTE: Do not touch the glass body, spout, and lid while the kettle is operating and before the water cools down. Keep all parts of your body away from the spout when the kettle is operating as the escaping steam could cause injury.

  6. When the water reaches the selected temperature, the kettle will beep twice and stop heating. The kettle will display the final water temperature for 20-30 seconds and then enter standby mode. Wait for the water to stop bubbling before carefully lifting the kettle by the handle and pouring the water.
    NOTE: Be very careful when pouring water from the kettle as both the hot water and steam can scald you. To avoid injury, do not pour with the lid open.

  7. Touch the power button at any time to stop the kettle from heating and return it to default settings

KEEP WARM AND MEMORY FUNCTION
In Keep Warm mode, the kettle remembers your selected temperature and automatically resumes heating any time the water drops to 5°C below it. While Keep Warm mode is active you can lift the kettle off its base and return it up to 8 times without the temperature setting returning to defaults. The Warm button will flash continuously to indicate that Keep Warm mode is active.
After 2 hours, the Keep Warm function will end and the kettle will enter standby mode.
BOIL-DRY PROTECTION
If the kettle boils dry or is started with insufficient water (below the MIN fill line), it will automati- cally switch off to prevent overheating. If this occurs, unplug the kettle from the power source and allow it to cool for 5-10 minutes, then refill and try again.

CARE AND CLEANING

CLEANING YOUR KETTLE
Always unplug the kettle from the power source before cleaning. Wipe outside of the cooled kettle and lid with a clean, damp cloth to remove any dirt or dust. Do not immerse the kettle body, power base, control panel, power cord, or electrical plug in any liquid. Do not use abrasive cleans- ers or scouring pads.
CLEANING YOUR FILTER
The removable spout filter is made of a fine mesh that prevents mineral (scale) particles from being poured out with the water. It should be cleaned every 10-25 uses to remove scale build-up. To remove the filter, unplug the cooled kettle from its power source and open the lid. With the spout facing you, hold the lid with one hand and the filter with the other. Pull the filter gently but firmly sideways and downwards until it pops out.
Rinse the filter under running water or brush it gently with a cleaning brush until clean. If any residue remains, you can soak the filter in a small amount of white vinegar or diluted citric acid solution and then rinse thoroughly. Replace the filter by inserting one side first and pushing up gently and firmly to pop the other into place.
DESCALING YOUR KETTLE
With regular use, mineral deposits from your water naturally build up inside your kettle, especially on the surface of the stainless steel heater. Regular descaling (1-2 times per month, depending on the hardness of your water) using one of the following methods will remove this residue and keep your kettle looking and working its best.
Descale with White Vinegar

  1. Unplug the kettle and fill with 0.5L (2 cups) of white vinegar.
  2. Let sit for 1 hour. Do not heat.
  3. Empty and rinse thoroughly with clean water 5-6 times.

Descale with Citric Acid

  1. Fill the kettle with 0.5 L (2 cups) of water and boil.
  2. Add 25 g (5 tsp) citric acid powder to the water and let sit for 15 minutes.
  3. Empty and rinse thoroughly with clean water 5-6 times.

Descale with a Commercial Descaling Product

  1. Choose a descaler designed for kettles and follow the product instructions.

THE PERFECT CUP OF TEA

Tea-lovers know that temperature matters when it comes to brewing the perfect cup.
Water that is too hot for the type of tea can “burn” the leaves, over- extracting the tannins and producing a bitter flavor profile.
Water that is too cool will not be able to extract the full flavor and character of the tea leaves resulting in a weak, flat-tasting brew.
Your Kenmore Kettle is programmed with 4 temperature pre-sets plus manual temperature control to brew the perfect cup of tea every time.Kenmore
