  3. If the power supply cord is too short, do not use an extension cord. Have a qualified electrician or serviceman install an outlet near the appliance.
NOTE: Neither Westinghouse nor the retailer can accept any liability for damage to the product or personal injury resulting due to failure to observe the electrical connection procedures.

INSTALLATION GUIDE

  1. Carefully unpack your iron.
  2. Carefully remove packaging around the iron and straighten the power cord. Do not remove any warning labels.
  3. Before using for the first time, remove any stickers or protective foil from the soleplate. Clean the Cera-Silk soleplate with a soft cloth. Avoid scratching the soleplate with any sharp or abrasive objects.
  4. Fill the water tank as described in the Filling the iron with water instructions on page 5.
  5. Connect the plug to mains supply and turn the temperature dial to ‘MAX’ setting.
  6. The temperature indicator light indicates that the iron is heating up. Have the iron stand up on its heel rest on a stable surface. Once the indicator light goes out, the set temperature has been reached.
  7. Move the steam control switch to ‘STEAM’ position – steam starts to come out of the steam holes on the soleplate. You can now begin ironing.
  8. It is recommended to do the first ironing e.g., on an old towel as there may be dust remaining in the tank from the manufacturing process. Once the water tank runs empty and no more steam is produced, the installation is complete.
  9. The iron has been treated for protection during manufacturing and transport, and as a result, the iron may emit vapours when switched on for the first time. This is normal and should cease after a short while.
  10. DANGER Do not under any circumstances immerse the iron, power cord or power plug in water or any other liquid.

IRON OPERATION

USING YOUR IRON FOR DRY IRONING

  1. Insert the plug into a power outlet and turn the power on.
  2. Ensure the steam control switch is in ‘0’ (= No steam) position.
  3. Turn the temperature dial to the desired setting according to the ironing recommendation on your garment label.
  4. The temperature indicator light will light up, indicating that the iron is heating up. When the light goes out the iron has reached the set temperature and is ready for use.
NOTE : When changing the temperature setting from higher to lower temperature, allow the appliance to reach the lower temperature before using it on the garment.

FILLING THE IRON WITH WATER
Make sure the iron is not plugged in and the temperature dial is in the ‘OFF’ position. Tilt the unit to a 45 degree angle and using the water beaker, pour water into the water inlet opening until ‘MAX’ level is reached.
DA GER Do not under any circumstances immerse the iron, power cord or power plug in water or any other liquid.
CAUTION The power plug must be removed from the outlet before the water reservoir is filled with water.
NOTE: Do not overfill the water tank as this may cause the iron to leak during use.
NOTE: Deposits or minerals in water supply will generate scales which may block the steam holes in the soleplate. Use of distilled water is therefore recommended. Do not use chemically distilled water.
NOTE: Do not use fragrances, fabric softeners, starch, cleaning agents or any other chemical liquids in the water tank as they may damage the appliance.

SPRAYING
The spray mist can be used for both dry and steam ironing at any temperature setting. Press the spray button to release a mist of water through the spray nozzle and dampen the fabric as required.
NOTE : Before using the spray function ensure that the water tank is at least ¼ full. If the tank has run dry, refill with distilled water as recommended in the Filling the iron with water instructions. It may be necessary to press the spray button a few times to re-prime the pump before mist appears.

STEAM IRONING

  1. Fill with distilled water as recommended in the Filling the iron with water instructions.
  2. Set the temperature dial setting to ‘MAX’ and wait until the appliance heats up and temperature indicator light goes out.
  3. Set the steam control switch to desired position. Increase the steam output by pushing the steam selector to the left and decrease steam by moving it to the right towards ‘0’.
NOTE : Steaming is generally not recommended for synthetic fabrics such as nylon and polyester. Always follow the garment manufacturer’s instructions.

USING THE SHOT OF STEAM
The shot of steam feature can be used for both dry and steam ironing at high temperatures. The shot of steam is particularly efficient in smoothing out stubborn creases on heavy fabrics.

  1. Fill with distilled water as recommended in the Filling the iron with water instructions.
  2. Set the temperature dial above the two dot ( ) setting and wait until the appliance heats up and the temperature indicator light goes out.
  3. Press the shot of steam button to release a powerful shot of steam from the soleplate.
DANGER Ejected steam is extremely hot and therefore should be avoided. Never direct the steam towards yourself or other people as this may cause burns or scalding.
NOTE : To prevent water droplets appearing from the soleplate do not press the shot of steam button continuously for more than 5 seconds. Keep a brief interval between shots for optimal results.
NOTE: The shot of steam can also be applied when the iron is in an upright position. This ‘vertical steam’ feature is ideal for removing creases on curtains, hanging suits etc.

ANTI-DRIP SYSTEM
Your iron is equipped with an anti-drip system which is designed to prevent water from escaping through the soleplate when using lower iron temperatures, thus helping to avoid water marks on your garments.

IRON OPERATION – CONTINUED
During use, the anti-drip system may emit a clicking sound, particularly during heatup or when the iron is cooling down. This is normal and indicates that the anti-drip system is functioning correctly.
CAUTION The iron must not be left unattended while it is connected to the supply mains. Unplug the appliance from mains before cleaning, filling with water, immediately after use, when moving it to storage and when not in use
NOTE: If the garment consists of several types of fabric or fibers, select the ironing temperature according to the requirements of the most delicate fabric.
NOTE : Before ironing, always read the garment manufacturer’s label and adjust the temperature setting accordingly

TROUBLESHOOTING

Troubleshoot your problem by using the chart. If the iron still does not operate correctly, it may be defective.
