Product Usage Instructions

Step 1: Preparing for Installation
Before starting the installation process, ensure that the electrical power is turned off at the breaker. If there is no existing hole where you want to hang the fan, you will need to cut
a hole in the sheetrock. You can use the electrical box provided as
a template for cutting the hole. If there is no electricity
available, you may use a swag kit or wire cover instead.

Step 2: Bracket Installation

  1. Snap the bracket over the square tube and center it over the hole in the sheetrock. Ensure that the screws are pointed towards the hole (figure 3).

Step 3: Electrical Box Installation

  1. Remove one knockout from the electrical box and install the connector.
  2. Pull the wire down through the hole and into the connector.
  3. Insert the electrical box into the hole and onto the bolts of the bracket (figure 6).
  4. Secure the box with the two nylon locknuts provided. Tighten securely, but do not overtighten (figure 7).

Step 4 (For Hunter Original Fans): U Hook Installation

  1. Install the two coupling nuts on top of the locknuts that hold the box on the bar. Tighten them securely without removing the locknuts.
  2. Use the two 10-24 x 1 screws to mount the Hunter U hook (provided with the fan) onto the coupling nuts. Tighten them securely (figure 5).

Please note: If you are installing Hunter Original Fans, follow the specific instructions provided for Hunter Original Fans.

The Saf-T-Brace® easily installs through a 4″ diameter hole in the ceiling. It is U.L. listed for fan support and exceeds the requirements of the National Electric Code for fans weighing up to 70 lbs., for lighting fixtures mounted on 16” center joists weighing up to 150 lbs., and lighting fixtures mounted on 24” center joists weighing up to 50 lbs.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Turn off electrical power at breaker!
If there is not a hole where you want to hang the fan, cut a hole in the sheetrock using the electrical box provided as a template. If no electricity is available, a swag kit or wire cover may be used.

  1. Clear the installation area of insulation, wiring and existing lightweight bar hanger. Remove wire attached to the side of the joist where Saf-T-Brace® will attach. Insert Saf-T-Brace® through the sheetrock and onto the ceiling, centering square tube over the hole in the sheetrock (figure 1).

  2. With both Saf-T-Brace® feet resting on the sheetrock, by hand only rotate the square tube until “teeth” are firmly locked into the joist; a 7⁄8″ wrench may be required for the final turn to bring bar around to the flat side. Do not install using wrench. A flat side of tubing must be parallel to the sheetrock so that the box bracket will hang correctly (figure 2).

  3. Snap the bracket over the square tube and center it over the hole (figure 3). Make sure the screws are pointed toward the hole in the sheetrock (figure 4).

  4. Remove one knockout from electrical box and install connector. Pull the wire down through the hole and into the connector. Insert the electrical box into the hole and onto the bolts of the bracket (figure 6). Secure the box with the two nylon locknuts provided, tighten securely (figure 7). Do not overtighten. (If installing Hunter Original Fans, follow the instructions for Hunter Original Fans).

  5. FOR HUNTER ORIGINAL FANS:
Install the two coupling nuts on top of the locknuts that hold the box on the bar and tighten securely. (Do not remove the locknuts). Use the two 10-24 x 1″ screws to mount the Hunter “U” hook (provided with the fan) onto the coupling nuts and tighten securely (figure 5).

  6. When you are ready to hang the fan or fixture, remove Saf-T-Cap®. Install fan or fixture screwing the 10-24 x 3⁄4″ bolts into the threaded inserts, NOT THE ELECTRICAL BOX EARS! Box ears can be used to mount lightweight fixtures or cover plates. Finish installation according to fan or fixture manufacturer’s instructions.Westinghouse-01100-Ceiling-Fan-and-Fixture-Support-01
