Safety Notes

warning: Please note the included General Safety Warnings for Pneumatic Tools and the following safety notes to avoid malfunctions, damage or physical injury:

  • Read the instructions carefully before use and follow all given instructions. Keep the instructions in a safe place for future reference.
  • Persons with limited physical, sensorial or mental abilities are not allowed to use the unit unless they are supervised and briefed for their safety by a qualified person.
  • Never leave the unit unsupervised when in use. Keep it out of reach of children or persons in need of supervision.
  • Only use this unit according to this instruction manual and for the intended use. The unit has not been designed for continuous, professional use.
  • For your safety it is not recommended to use a permanent connection between the air chipping hammer and the air hose, but use the supplied plug nipple instead.
  • Always control the working air pressure with a pressure regulator.
  • The air-chipping hammer causes a high sound pressure level. Wear appropriate hearing protection. Wear personal protective clothing such as safety goggles, protective gloves and protective mask if necessary.
  • Do not use oxygen or flammable gases as a power source. Only use clean, dry air at 6 bar with the air-chipping hammer. Exceeding the max. the permitted pressure level of 8 bar will significantly reduce the lifetime of the tool.
  • Disconnect the tool from the air supply before applying maintenance work or inserting or exchanging the chipping chisel.
  • Check all connections and hoses for firm seats and proper functionality. Loose hoses can create a serious risk of injury. Only use safety couplings.
  • Check the unit for any damages and do not use the air chipping hammer if it has been damaged.
  • Avoid abnormal posture. Make sure you have a firm foothold and you always hold the balance.
  • Be attentive! Pay attention to what you are doing. Approach your work with circumspection.
  • Do not use the unit when your reactivity is affected by alcohol consumption, medication, drugs, illness or tiredness. One moment of abstraction operating the unit can cause grave injuries.
  • Please wear comfortable work clothes. Wear tight clothes, non-slip footwear and a hair net if you wear long hair or tie it up. Jewellery and loose clothing may be caught by the moving parts of the tool.
  • Do not use the air-chipping hammer near flammable liquids, gases or dust. Sparks may ignite the dust or fumes.
  • Never carry the unit with the hose. Carry it with the housing. Keep the handle dry and free from oil or grease.
  • Attention! Beware of flying chips when working with the air-chipping hammer.
  • All persons in the immediate working area have to wear eye and ear protection.
  • Do not disassemble the unit and do not try to repair it yourself. Contact your customer support. Only use original spare parts.

Operating

Intended Use

  • The air-chipping hammer has been exclusively designed for chiselling and chipping stone, concrete and masonry.
  • The intended use also includes an operation following the operating instructions.
  • Any use beyond these parameters (different media, applying force) or any changes (reconstruction, no original accessory) can lead to serious risks and is regarded as use that is contrary to the intended purpose.

Before first Use
Unpack the air hammer set and check all parts for any damage in transit. Dispose of packaging materials or store them out of reach of children. Plastic bags etc. may become a deadly toy for children.

The air-chipping hammer is equipped with an R ¼“ air inlet (4). For your safety, it is not recommended to use a permanent connection between the air chipping hammer and the air hose, but use the plug nipple (5) instead.

  1. Seal the end of the plug nipple with Teflon tape before you screw it onto the air connection of the air-chipping hammer.
The chipping hammer has to be provided with lubricating oil during operation. Before each use add oil through the air inlet (4) or use an oil-fog lubricator. Also, read the chapter “Lubrication”.

  2. Use a flexible hose to connect the air hammer to the compressor. Set up a pressure of approx. 6 bar on the compressor. Check all air connec-tions for leakages.

  3. Switch off the compressor again.

  4. Insert the supplied chipping chisel (8 – 12) into the hexagonal chuck (1).

  5. Then slide the retaining spring (6) over the chisel and screw it down onto the threat (2) of the chipping hammer. Screw the spring as far as it will go. The spring is exposed to severe stress during operation. Check it regularly for cracks  and damage and replace if necessary.

  6. Power up the compressor. Hold the air-chipping hammer firmly with both hands and put the chisel tip up against the workpiece you want to chip.

  7. Press the trigger (3) and slowly move the air-chipping hammer along the workpiece. Do not push down the chisel against the workpiece.
If the results are not satisfactory, check the chisel for wear.

  8. First disconnect the air chipping hammer from the air supply when exchanging the chisel, when not using the unit, after finished working and when applying maintenance work. Press the trigger in order to remove any remaining air from the chipping hammer.

Air Pressure and Air Volume

  • Operate the air-chipping hammer with a pressure of 6 bar (90 psi). Exceeding the max. the permitted pressure level of 8 bar will significantly reduce the lifetime of the tool. Operate the air chipping hammer using a compressor with an air suction capacity of > 350 l/min. The ideal capacity is provided by compressors with a suction capacity greater than 400 l/min.
  • Only use air hoses with an inner diameter of at least 9 mm. When setting up the air pressure, always keep in mind that the pressure will decrease by approx. 0.6 bar when using a 10 m long hose with an inner diameter of 9 mm.

Maintenance and Care

  • To ensure proper functionality and a long lifetime, diligent lubrication and maintenance are essential.
  • For operating pneumatic tools clean air is required. Corrosion residues, dust and dirt from the pneumatic pipes reduce the efficiency of the tool and will cause technical problems. An upstream maintenance unit consisting of filter, pressure regulator valve and lubricating equipment removes moisture and dirt from the air, controls the working pressure and supplies the tool perfectly with lubricating oil.
  • If necessary, clean the unit with a moist cloth.
  • Do not use abrasive or aggressive chemicals as benzene or thinner, which may dissolve plastic parts.
  • Do not allow liquids to enter the unit and never immerse it into liquids. Water in the compressed air inlet can damage the machine. Therefore it is recommended to drain the air lines and the compressor regularly! The air filters should be cleaned at least once a week.

Lubrication
Pneumatic tools have to be lubricated always sufficiently. This is done continuously and safest by using an oil-fog lubricator. If the oiler is mounted centrally at the compressor or mounted firmly at the end of the compressed-air pipe installation, use only a hose with a length of max. 10 m. If the hose is longer, the nebulisation disappears in the air. The oil floats inside the hose and does not arrive at the air tool.

Oiler Setting

  • Hose up to 5 m every 2 minutes 1 drop
  • Hose up to 10 m every minute 1 drop
  • If you do not have an oiler at your disposal, please put a few drops of oil into the compressed-air connection (5) before every machine usage. Lubricate the air chipping hammer once more after use, especially if you do not operate the unit for a long time. Further maintenance work is not necessary.

Storing

  • Store the unit indoors in a dust and dirt-free location, between 10° C and 30° C.
  • Keep the unit out of reach of children and persons in need of supervision.

  • The vibration emission level given in this information sheet has been measured by a standardised test given in EN ISO 11148 and may be used to compare one pneumatic tool with another. It may be used for a preliminary assessment of exposure.
  • The declared vibration emission level represents the main applications of the pneumatic tool. However, if the pneumatic tool is used for different applications, with different accessories or insertion tools or is poorly maintained, the vibration emission may differ. This may significantly increase the exposure level over the total working period.
  • An exact estimation of the level of exposure to vibration should also take into account the times when the pneumatic tool is switched off or when it is running but not doing the job. This may significantly reduce the exposure level over the total working period.
  • Identify additional safety measures to protect the operator from the effects of vibration such as: maintaining the pneumatic tool and the accessories, keeping the hands warm, and organisation of work patterns.
