Introduction

Follow the instructions carefully when installing the bicycle holder.

Check the towbar tongue weight in your Owner’s Manual. If a lower weight is specified than the maximum load given for the bicycle holder, the lower weight limit applies

IMPORTANT

Check before installation that your towbar is in accordance with below.

NOTE

Read the enclosed safety instructions.

NOTE

Regularly check that the bicycle holder is secured on the towbar and that the bicycles’ securing devices are properly tightened. Check that the bicycle holder is properly locked and the key removed before travelling.

Note that wind noise can occur when the bicycle holder is installed.

NOTE

Speed should be adjusted according to the load being transported and of course according to the applicable speed regulations, though not more than 130 km/h.

Be aware of the change in the car’s length and its driving characteristics with the bicycle holder.

IMPORTANT

Drive slowly over speed bumps

NOTE

Remember to proceed with caution if the car is equipped with a power operated tailgate. The system can be activated in a car wash or similar if the remote control key is within range.

  • Maximum load: 60 kg (ball pressure load).
  • Its weight: 16.7 kg.
  • Maximum weight per bicycle: 30 kg.
  • The vehicle driver has the sole responsibility for the product being free from defects and securely fastened.

  • Before a journey, the function of the lighting unit lights must be checked.
  • Do not leave any loose items on the bicycles during transportation.
  • Check that the straps and other mountings are secure and post tighten as necessary.
  • The length of the car increases when the bicycle holder is fitted. The bicycles may also increase its width and height. Use caution when backing up.
  • Replace any worn or damaged parts immediately.
  • The bicycle holder must always be locked during a journey.
  • The driving characteristics of the car may differ when driving round corners and under braking when the product is installed.
  • Always follow applicable speed limits and other traffic laws.
  • The speed must be adjusted to the prevailing conditions, but must never exceed 130 km/h.
  • Do not use the holder to transport tandem bicycles.
  • Volvo takes no responsibility for personal injuries and/or damage to property and consequential financial losses, caused by incorrect mounting or use.
  • The product must not be modified.

Preparations

Key number

Please note down the number of your key in the box above. If the key is lost then it can be reordered.

Weight

  • Max. number of bicycles: 2
  • Max. permitted weight in lbs: 132
  • Max. permitted weight in kg: 60

NOTE

Check that the total weight of the bicycle holder and bicycles does not exceed the capacity of the towbar

Installing

  1. Fit the bicycle holder in place on the towbar.

  2. Make sure that the bicycle holder is properly fitted on the towbar using the colour markings on the handle.

  3. Plug the electrical socket into the car

  4. Screw in the plug.

  5. Fold out the bicycle holder and check that the light bar works as intended.

  6. Lock the handle for the towbar bracket.

  7. Unscrew the brackets. Use a screwdriver if necessary. Attach the registration plate on the bicycle holder and secure the plate with the brackets.

  8. Adapt the length of the frame holder to the bicycle

  9. Unscrew the knob to prepare the  installation of the frame holder on the support bar.

  10. Clamp the frame holder into the support frame as illustrated.

  11. Make sure that you slide over the attachment ring when the clamp is aligned in position on the support frame.

  • Fit the bicycle on the bicycle holder. If several bicycles are being loaded on the bicycle holder, fit them in opposite directions with the heaviest bicycle on the inside.
  • Check that the handlebars of the inside bicycle do not make contact with the car’s tailgate. If necessary, loosen and turn the handlebars, or move the bicycle out one position.
  1. Attach the bicycle’s tyres using the bicycle holder’s tensioner bands.
  2. Tighten.

NOTE

Note that the exhaust gases are hot and can affect bicycle parts, e.g. tyres.

  1. Make sure that the clamp for the bracket is unlocked.

  2. Screw in.

  3. Lock with the key

Opening the tailgate

In order to open the tailgate on five doors cars, the bicycle holder can be angled backwards.

Depress the catch on the bicycle holder with your foot and angle the bicycle holder backwards

  • Fold the bicycle holder until it locks with a clear click.
  • Check that the bicycle holder is properly locked in the folded up position.

Unloading a bicycle/bicycles

  1. Undo the tensioner bands for the bicycle wheels.

  2. Unlock the clamp for the bicycle frame and turn the knob. Lift off the bicycle.

Loosening the bicycle holder from the car

  1. Unlock the handle for the towbar bracket. Hold in the catch (A) and angle up the handle (B). The handle for the bracket is now no longer locked

  2. Fold down the arms for the bicycle frame and fasten the straps for the bicycle wheels.

  3. Fold up the bicycle holder

  4. Unplug the electrical cable and fit it in the bracket in the bicycle holder.

  5. Lift the bicycle holder from the towbar.

Lamp replacement

  1. Unscrew the lamp (1) from the light bar on the bicycle holder. Angle out the lamp lens (2).

  2. Unscrew the lamp lens.

  3. Angle out the large lens (1) and then slide it out (2). Slide out the side lens (3).

  4. Replace the lamps in accordance with the following:

    • 12V, H21W
    • 12V, C5W

One Key System

If you have several accessories then you can add a lock kit so that you only need to use one key. This is described on the Volvo Cars accessories website accessories.volvocars.com.

Loading ramp

Accessory kit

The loading ramp is available as a separate accessory for the towbar mounted bicycle holder.

Installing the ramp holder

  • Open the ramp mounting that is to be secured to the support bar.

  • Insert a part with the locking tab into each open mounting as illustrated.

  • Clip the ramp holder around the support bar in the position illustrated.

Securing the loading ramp

  • Screw the ramp holder into place at the correct height using an Allen key.

  • Click the loading ramp in the hole beneath the desired position of the bicycle holder.

  • When the loading ramp is not being used it can be inserted in the mounting on the support bar.

  • Secure the ramp using the locking tab.
