    Safety instructions for extension cords

  • Make sure your extension cord is in good condition. When using an extension cord, be sure to use one heavy enough to carry the current your product will draw. An undersized extension cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating. The metric cross section table shows the correct size to use depending on cord length and nameplate ampere rating. If in doubt, use the next heavier cross section. The smaller the cross section, the heavier the cord.
Amp| rating|                         Total length of extension cord in meters

Vibration and noise reduction

To reduce the impact of noise and vibration emission, limit the time of operation, use low-vibration and low-noise operating modes as well as wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
Take the following points into account to minimise the vibration and noise exposure risks:

  • Only use the machine as intended by its design and these instructions.
  • Ensure that the machine is in good condition and well maintained.
  • Use correct attachments for the machine and ensure they are in good condition.
  • Keep a tight grip on the handles/gripping surfaces.
  • Maintain the machine in accordance with these instructions (where appropriate).
  • Plan the work schedule to spread any high vibration machine use across a longer period of time.

Residual risks

Even if you are operating this machine in accordance with all the safety requirements, potential risks of injury and damage remain. The following dangers can arise in connection with the structure and design of this machine:

  • Risk of injury and property damage caused by broken attachments or the sudden impact of hidden objects.
  • Risk of cuts from the machine’s sharp tines.
  • Risk of getting entangled by the machine’s motor.
  • Risk of inhaling small dust and particles into the lungs.

Intended Use

  • The machine is intended for use in home and gardening environments.
The machine is primarily used to remove dead plant material (thatch) barrier from small-scale, residential lawns and home/hobby gardens. The machine uses spring tines that comb across the top of the grass, pulling up any thatch to the surface of the lawn.

  • This machine is intended for household use only.

  • Do not use the machine on uncut lawns, this can cause damage to the machine or make dethatching very difficult.

  • Only use the machine as described in these instructions. Any other use is
considered improper and may result in damage to property or injury to persons.

NOTICE

Why is dethatching so important?

  • Removing thatch can be crucial for a proper lawn maintenance as thatch can harm grass and lawns. Thatch is a mixture of dead and living plant matter that gathers at the base of grass and lawn.
While a small amount of thatch is beneficial, it becomes an issue when thatch builds up. Regular dethatching allows air, water, and nutrients to reach plants and soil more efficiently.

  • Thatch that is too thick prevents moisture and air from getting to plants, lawn, and soil. Excessive thatch makes it difficult for the water to penetrate, causing water to run off instead of soak in. Thatch can also harbor insects and lawn diseases. In addition, grass may begin growing in the thatch layer instead of the soil, producing shallow root systems and expose it to greater temperature extremes.

  • If the thatch builds up for too long, not only can it can kill the grass, but it can also damage the soil. Damaged soil, might make it difficult for the replanted grass to flourish.

Personal Protective Equipment

Wear personal protective equipment (PPE). Depending on the application, use safety goggles or safety glasses. As appropriate, wear hearing protectors (Fig. 2).
