BROWIN 405525 Distillation Set

Specifications

  • Model : No 405525/405530
  • Flask Capacity : 10 liters
  • Materials : Durable technical glass

Step 1: Assembling the Distillation Set

  1. Connect the chosen distilling apparatus to the flask using the identical cuts.
  2. If using a 10-liter flask (405530), it is recommended to use the distilling apparatus (405525).

Step 2: Preparing the Flask

  • Fill the flask with liquid, ensuring it does not exceed the middle of its length.
  • Add several pieces of kaolin, broken china, or faience with a diameter of 1-5 mm. This will promote homogenous boiling and prevent overheating of the liquid.

Step 3: Cleaning the Set

Thoroughly clean the cuts connecting the flask with the apparatus before and after each mounting.

USER MANUAL DISTILLATION SET

distillation set consisting of 10 l flat bottom flask and a distilling apparatus (cooler, cooler with a dephlegmate or a cooler with a dephlegmate and decanter).

  1. The cuts connecting the flasks and apparatuses are the same. It allows for connecting a flask with any distilling apparatus. It is recommended to use distilling apparatus (405525) with 10 l flasks (405530).
  2. Flasks and distilling apparatuses are made of durable technical glass.
  3.   Note : The flask can be filled with liquid maximum to the middle of its length
  4. Add several pieces of kaolin, broken china or faience. The diameter of the pieces should be 1-5 mm. This addition will ensure homogenous boiling of the liquid and prevent its overheating.
  5. Thoroughly clean the cuts connecting the flask with the apparatus before and after each mounting. Prior to subsequent mounting cover the cuts with a fresh coat of silicon lubricant available in laboratory ware shops or at our distributors.
  6. Connect two hoses to the distilling apparatus so that cooling water flows in the countercurrent against the distillate. It means the “lower” connector pipe of the cooler is connected with the tap and water from the “upper” connector pipe is discharged to the sink. Start the cooling water flow before heating the flask so that the water fills the entire cooling volume of the apparatus and flows out of the outlet hose with a slow stream. Water flow can be stopped only when distillation is completed and the set cooled down.
  7. Note : Carefully dry the external surface before heating the flask.
  8. Note : Do not use open flame to heat the flask. It is best to place the flask on an electrical heating plate or in water bath.
  9. The flask shall be heated moderately to ensure slow boiling of the liquid, without excessive foaming.
  10. Collect the distillate to the tank placed at the distillation apparatus outlet. The distillate should flow drop by drop or with a minor stream.
  11. If at unchanged flask heating conditions no condensate is collected in the distillation apparatus and the frequency of drops flowing decreases significantly, distillation can be regarded as completed.
  12. The set can be dismantled only after it has cooled down.
Note : flasks and distillation apparatuses are made of glass. Exercise extreme caution when using them and wear certified goggles and gloves resistant to puncturing with glass.
