CAT WATER FOUNTAIN Troubleshooting Tips

Common Problems

(1) Leakage/Overflow Issue Analysis and Solutions:
I: Leakage generally occurs due to machine damage, cracks, or holes leading to water seepage. Our products are made of ABS material and are securely packaged, minimizing the probability of such issues. Please send pictures or videos for verification, and we will send a new machine if necessary.
II: Overflow happens when the water flow under the filter is slow or when food residues, saliva, or hair clog the outlet, causing water to overflow the water bowl on top of the feeder. To ensure effective filtration, our filter has 6 layers and is 3cm thick. The filtering materials inside are dense, forming a sealed space during production and transportation. Before use, soak the filter in a clean bowl for 5 minutes and rinse it under the tap for 30 seconds to ensure its permeability.
III: When the filter is used for an extended period, residue accumulation may slow down the water flow and cause overflow. In such cases, replace the filter promptly. You can temporarily use the feeder without the filter until the new one arrives to prevent overflow.
The updated models have added overflow drainage holes on the top cover. If a blockage occurs, water will flow into the bowl through these drainage holes without spilling onto the floor.

Weak Water Flow Issue Analysis and Solutions:

(1) There are two reasons for weak water flow:
I: The gap between the water pump and the feeder’s water pipe has widened, causing insufficient sealing and preventing water from being pumped up. In this case, clean the connection area. If there are rubber connecting parts, clean them, and if they are worn out,
replace them or apply tape around the worn areas to enhance the seal and restore normal water flow.
II: Impurities entering the water pump or the formation of biofilm due to lack of cleaning can also lead to weak water flow. Follow the instructions in the video to disassemble and clean the water pump to restore normal water flow.

 Mold Issue Analysis and Solutions:

Pets can introduce food residues and saliva into the water during drinking, leading to the formation of a slimy biofilm on the bowl’s surface if the water is not changed for a long time. The filter cotton can also become moldy after extended use, especially in hot weather, where bacteria can multiply rapidly. To ensure your pet’s drinking water is clean, change the water at least once a week. Replace the filter every 2-3 weeks as recommended. If multiple pets use the feeder, the frequency of filter replacement should be increased due to the higher amount of saliva and debris in the water.

Noise Issues: Analysis and Solutions

Sources of Noise:

  1. Dripping Sound: When the water level in the bowl is low, the increased water drop height can create a dripping noise. Simply adding water will resolve this issue.
  2.  Pump Operation Sound: We use a silent water pump. If the pump is making excessive noise, it’s likely due to impurities in the pump. Immediate cleaning of the pump will solve the problem. Another possibility is loud pump noise caused by insufficient water; adding water promptly will resolve it.
  3.  Flowing Water Sound: The product has been designed with a “silent line” to reduce the sound of water flow.

Feeder Stopping Issue

  1. Check Adapter: Replace the adapter to confirm if the stoppage is caused by a faulty adapter.
  2.  Follow Video Instructions: Disassemble the pump’s rotor, shaft, etc., following the video instructions. Reassemble and test again. If these methods don’t work, contact WOPET customer service. We offer free pump replacement service within two years.

Pet Fear of the Drinking

It’s normal for pets to be afraid when introduced to a fountain for the first time. Give them time to adapt. Alternatively, you can place some treats or freeze-dried snacks inside the feeder to entice your cat to approach. Remember to clean up the leftover residue afterward.

Working Principle of the Pet Water Fountain Pump:

The pet water pump primarily uses a 5V miniature water pump, operating on low- voltage direct current for energy efficiency and safety. The motor is made of pure copper and utilizes a carbon brush-free magnetic isolation pump design. The stator and circuit board parts of the motor are sealed with epoxy resin, completely isolating them from the rotor, solving the problem of electrical leakage during prolonged submersion. The core shaft is made of highquality stainless steel. The DC water pump’s stator is fixed, and the rotor rotates. The pump is self-lubricating during operation and does not require additional lubrication oil. The 5V DC water pump starts smoothly with minimal impact and low power consumption, allowing frequent starts and stops.

Why Use Automatic Pet Water Fountain ?

The domestic cat’s direct ancestors, the Libyan wildcats, were born approximately 130,000 years ago. These wildcats, also known as African wildcats, possessed exceptional survival skills, even thriving in mountainous areas with limited food and water sources. Approximately 10,000 years ago, Libyan wildcats were eventually domesticated by humans. Due to the scarcity of water in Africa, domesticated cats inherited their ancestors’ trait of minimal water consumption. However, staying hydrated is crucial for cats. Inadequate water intake can lead to constipation, urinary stones, bladder infections, difficulty urinating, and even blood in the urine. Research has shown that cats prefer drinking flowing water. Hence, automatic water dispensers were developed, available in fountain, waterfall, and faucet designs.
These devices significantly increase cats’ water intake. Regular cleaning and filter replacement are necessary. Cats’ water requirements vary with different seasons; water can spoil quickly in summer. Therefore, changing the water in your cat’s bowl or dispenser every day is essential. Additionally, you can add some ice cubes to the water to make it cooler, attracting your cat to drink more and increasing their desire for water. However, be cautious not to add too many ice cubes to avoid making the water too cold. In winter, you can add some warm water to encourage your cat to drink more. Cats are particular about water quality, so regular cleaning of the water bowl is necessary. Change the water frequently; otherwise, if left for too long, the water quality deteriorates, and your cat may refuse to drink.

How Much Water Should a Cat Drink Each Day?

A cat’s daily water intake depends on factors such as its size, level of physical activity, and the weather. Generally, cats should drink between 40-60ml of water per kilogram of body weight each day. Sources of this water include food, wet canned food, and water the cat actively drinks. Cats primarily fed wet food or freeze-dried food with added water may drink relatively less. Pet owners can estimate if their cat’s water intake is normal based on the cat’s weight and daily diet. You can assess your cat’s hydration by gently pulling the skin on its neck and observing how quickly it snaps back; slow skin recoil indicates potential dehydration. Additionally, a cat typically urinates 1-3 times a day. If you notice the cat litter clumps becoming smaller or less frequent, it indicates your cat isn’t drinking enough water. Owners can increase their cat’s water intake by adding more water dispensers and incorporating wet food into their diet.

Water Fountain Cleaning

Water Replacement: Weekly – For the pet’s health, please change the water at least once a week.
Regular Cleaning: Biweekly – The feeder should be cleaned at least every two weeks.
Pump Cleaning: Biweekly – Regularly cleaning the pump is crucial for the long-term use of the feeder. It is recommended to clean the pump every two weeks. If the pump stops working, produces low water flow, or makes noise, clean it immediately.
Filter Replacement: Every 2-3 weeks – Depending on the number of pets using the feeder. If multiple pets use the feeder, there will be more saliva and debris in the water, necessitating more frequent filter replacements.
