Cleaning and disinfecting

General notes

Clean and disinfect the facepiece after every use.

WARNING

Danger of poisoning!

Residues of skin care products can reduce the elasticity in the sealing area and cause the facepiece to no longer sit correctly.

  • Thoroughly clean the mask body so that no residue of any skin care product remains on the mask body

NOTICE

Risk of damaging the material!

For cleaning and disinfecting, do not use any solvents (e.g. acetone or alcohol) or cleaning agents with scouring particles.

  • Only follow the specified procedure and use the specified cleaning and disinfecting agents. Other agents, dosages and application times may cause damage to the product.

For information on suitable cleaning agents and disinfectants and their specifications, see document 9100081 at www.draeger.com/IFU.

Cleaning and disinfecting the facepiece

  1. Remove any accessories, such as mask spectacles, and clean them separately if required.
  2. Prepare a cleaning solution consisting of water and a cleaning agent.
  3. Clean all parts using a soft cloth with cleaning solution.
  4. Thoroughly rinse all parts under running water.
  5. Prepare a disinfectant bath consisting of water and a disinfectant.
  6. Put all parts to be disinfected in the disinfectant bath.
  7. Thoroughly rinse all parts under running water.
  8. Dry all parts in the air or in a drying cabinet (temperature: max. +60 °C). Do not expose to direct sunlight.
  9. Fit the accessories.

The facepieces of the X-plore 5500 and X-plore 6000 series can also be cleaned and disinfected using a machine. Further information can be obtained from Dräger.

Leak test

General notes

Carry out the leak test with a suitable test unit (e.g. from the Testor or Quaestor series).

Moistening the face seal facilitates exact donning, since the mask can slide onto the test head more easily

Checking for leaks

  1. Moisten the face seal with water.
  2. Moisten the exhalation valve with water.
  3. Mount the facepiece on the test head.
  4. Make sure that the face seal fits tightly onto all parts of the test head. If necessary, inflate the test head.
  5. Seal the front port (X-plore 6000 series) or bayonet-type connector (X-plore 5500) with the adapter and produce anegative pressure of 10 mbar.
The facepiece is considered leak-tight if the pressure drop is less than 1 mbar/min. If the facepiece is leaking, consult the following chapter (see “Test with sealed exhalation valve”, page 9).

Test with sealed exhalation valve

  1. Remove the exhalation valve disc.
  2. Insert the exhalation valve test plug.
  3. Produce a negative pressure of 10 mbar.
  4. If the pressure drop is less than 1 mbar/min, remove the exhalation valve test plug and insert a new valve disc.
  5. Repeat the leak test (see “Checking for leaks”, page 9).

After testing

  1. Disconnect the adapter.
  2. Remove the facepiece from the test head and dry it if necessary.
  3. Put on the exhalation valve cover. The protective cap must lock into place.
Replacing the speech diaphragm
  1. Disconnect the inner mask.

  2. Unscrew the speech diaphragm with the speech membrane wrench and remove it.
    speech diaphragm

  3. Visually inspect the speech diaphragm and O-ring and replace them if necessary.

  4. Insert the O-ring, then screw in the speech diaphragm.

  5. Attach the inner mask

Replacing the exhalation valve
  1. Open the exhalation valve cover.
  2. Disconnect the valve disc.
  3. The valve disc and valve seat must be clean and undamaged. Otherwise clean or replace them.
  4. Fit the valve disc.
  5. Close the exhalation valve cover
Replacing the inhalation valve

X-plore 5500

  1. Disconnect the inner mask.
  2. Pull the interior inhalation valve from the valve seat.
  3. The valve discs and valve seat must be clean and undamaged. Otherwise clean or replace them.
  4. Connect the valve to the valve seat.
  5. Reattach the inner mask.

X-plore 6000 series

  1. Pull the inhalation valve seat with valve out of the front port. Do not damage the front port.
  2. The valve disc and valve seat must be clean and undamaged. Otherwise clean or replace them.
  3. Insert the inhalation valve seat with valve into the facepiece.
Replacing the front port

Front port

  6. Align and mount the slip ring and a new clamping ring. Attach the hook to ensure the tightest possible fit of the clamping ring.

  7. Compress the nose of the clamping ring with the pliers R 53 239 until the mask connector is securely located in the mask body.

  8. Attach the inner mask

2 Bayonet-type connector (X-plore 5500)

  1. Force open the lateral clamping ring with a screwdriver.
  2. Remove the clamping ring.

  4. Align a new bayonet-type connector with the mark and insert it, ensuring it is properly seated.
  5. Align and mount a new clamping ring. Attach the hook to ensure the tightest possible fit of the clamping ring.
  6. Compress the nose of the clamping ring with the pliers R 53 239 until the mask connector is securely located in the mask body.
Replacing the visor
  1. Unscrew the screws. When cleaning masks with metal visor frames, hold the hexagon nuts in position.

Replacing the inner mask
  1. To disconnect the inner mask, remove it all around from the speech diaphragm groove.
  2. To attach the inner mask, insert it all around in the speech diaphragm groove and centre the centre marking.
Replacing the control valve discs on the inner mask
  1. Pull out the old valve disc towards the inside.
  2. Insert the stud of the new valve disc into the hole from  inside and pull it towards the visor until the undercut of the stud is visible. The valve disc must make even contact with the inside surface.
Replacing the head harness
  1. Turn the head harness away from the flap on the mask.
  2. Push the clip on the head harness towards the visor.
  3. To attach the clip, place it on the mask flap and push it onto the latch.
  4. Make sure that the nose on the flap is correctly engaged in the hole in the clip.

Storage

  • Loosen the head harness as far as possible.
  • Make sure that the facepiece is dry.
  • Pack the full face mask in its bag or carrying box.
  • Store the full face mask in a dry, dust-free place where it cannot become deformed.
  • Protect from direct sunlight and thermal radiation.
  • Storage temperature: -15 °C to +25 °C
  • Observe ISO 2230 and national regulations concerning the storage, maintenance, and cleaning of rubber products.
Dräger rubber products are treated with an agent to protect against premature ageing which in some cases is visible as a grey-white coating. This coating can be washed off with a brush and soapy water.
