1.1 General safety statements
- Before using this product, carefully read the Instructions for Use.
- Strictly follow the Instructions for Use. The user must fully understand and strictly observe the instructions. Use the product only for the purposes specified in the Intended use section of this document.
- Do not dispose of the Instructions for Use. Ensure that they are retained and appropriately used by the product user.
- Only trained and competent users are permitted to use this product.
- Comply with all local and national rules and regulations associated with this product.
- Only trained and competent personnel are permitted to inspect, repair and service the product. Dragger recommends that all maintenance activities are carried out by Dragger.
- Use only genuine Dragger spare parts and accessories, or the proper functioning of the product may be impaired.
- Do not use a faulty or incomplete product. Do not modify the product.
- Notify Dragger in the event of any product or component fault or failure.
1.2 Definitions of alert icons
The following alert icons are used in this document to indicate and highlight
areas of the associated text that require a greater level of awareness from
the user. The meanings of the alert icons are as follows:

Description
DANGER
The filtering escape hood is intended for single use only. Dispose of after
use!
The Dragger PARAT ® 4720/4730, Dragger PARAT5510/5520/5530/ 5550 and Dragger
PARAT7520/7530 1) do not provide protection against oxygen deficiency.
The Dragger PARAT 4720/4730 does not provide protection against carbon
monoxide.
Failure to observe this can lead to severe personal injury or death.

2.1 Intended use
NOTICE
Only use the escape hood for the purpose of escaping in an emergency. Do not
use during regular operations!
The performance of the filters corresponds to the related standards EN
403:2004, EN 14387:2004 (in parts) and DIN 58647-7:1997.
The Dragger PARAT 4000/5000/7000 series is designed for an escape period of at
least 15minutes. It is intended for single use only. Untrained users may
experience breathing difficulties.
The escape hood is suitable for self rescue and third-party rescue.
Dragger PARAT 4720/4730 is a filtering industrial escape hood for single
use during escape from facilities where organic or inorganic gases, toxic
vapours or dangerous particles are suddenly released. At high concentrations
of breathing poisons (≥1 Vol%) and in the presence of low-boiling compounds of
group 1 and 2, a reduced degree of protection is to be expected.
Dragger PARAT 5510/5520/5530/5550 is a filtering fire escape hood
designed for single use, which provides respiratory protection against smoke
and most hazardous combustible gases for at least 15minutes. The escape hood
complies with EN403:2004 (M) for mobile hoods. The escape hood is available in
a standard size. Adults should assist children when donning the escape hood.
The bag of the Dragger PARAT 5550 is only approved for use with the Dragger
fire escape hood. Extra equipment such as runner and wedges can be stored and
transported in the additional pockets of the Dragger PARAT5550.
Dragger PARAT 7520/7530 is a combined filtering industrial and fire escape
hood for single use during escape from facilities. It provides respiratory
protection against organic and inorganic gases. It also provides protection
against toxic vapours and dangerous particles, smoke and most hazardous
combustible gases. At high concentrations of breathing poisons (≥1 Vol%) and
in the presence of substances with a low boiling point, a reduced degree of
protection is to be expected.
2.2 Limitations on use
The oxygen content of the ambient air must be at least 17 Vol% to 19.5 Vol%.
Observe the respective national regulations.
WARNING
The industrial escape hoods Dragger PARAT 4720 and 4730 do not provide
protection against carbon monoxide CO). Danger of poisoning!
NOTICE
The filters of the Dragger PARAT 5500/7500 contain Hoplite. A temperature rise
is therefore possible under certain conditions due to technical reasons. This
process can cause warming of the filter housing and the breathing air. This
does not impair the filter performance and does not pose a health risk to the
user.

Use
4.1Preparation for use
NOTICE
If you have a smaller head, you may need to press the half mask over your
mouth and nose for better sealing.
If you have a large head the face mask may feel slightly less comfortable.
4.1.1Keep the escape hood ready
- Before use, visually inspect the escape hood.
Do not use the escape hood if it shows damage (e.g. condensation water, cracks, etc.). In this case, the product must be disposed of and replaced.
If the filter is deformed, e.g. by a fall, the filter performance may be impaired. In this case, the filter must be disposed of and replaced.
Store the Dragger PARAT in its packaging within easy reach and protected
against damage, e.g., at the workplace. Avoid high temperatures and direct
sunlight.
Check the expiry date on the filter. Do not manipulate the product. The seal
on the packaging must be undamaged. Memories the Instructions for Use.
4.2During use
WARNING
Only use the escape hood if it is undamaged and the seal on the device is
intact.

• Open the packaging (Figure 1 and 2).
- Dragger PARAT 4720 / 5520 / 7520 (Soft Pack):
Undo the seal.
Reach underneath the yellow clasp (Figure 1) and pull forcefully in the direction of the arrow until the packaging is completely open (Figure 2).

Dragger PARAT 4730 / 5530 / 7530 (Hard Case):
Reach underneath the yellow fastener and pull forcefully in the direction of the arrow until the packaging is completely open (Figure 2). The seal is broken. -
Grasp the escape hood and pull it out forcefully, the rip-tape straps are open (Figure 3).

- Open the packaging (Figure 1).
- Grasp the escape hood and pull it out of the packaging (Figure 2).
- Grasp the pull cords and pull both plugs out of the filter (Figure 3).

Open the bag.
Grasp the foil pouch and pull it out of the bag (Figure 1).
NOTICE
If the foil pouch is severely damaged and moisture visibly entered the packaging in the form of drops, replace the escape hood. -
Open the foil pouch at the notch highlighted in colour (Figure 2).

Grasp the red pull cords at the edge of the foil pouch.
Grasp the escape hood and pull it out of the foil pouch. Both plugs must be pulled out of the filter (Figure 3).
The following steps are necessary for all variants of the PARAT escape hoods:

Check that both plugs have been removed. Grasp any plugs that have not been removed at the clasp and pull them out.

Don the escape hood yourself or fit it on the person to be rescued (Figure 4):
Grip the collar with both hands and open it wide.
Pull the escape hood over your head or first insert your chin and then pull the escape hood over your head as necessary.
Make sure that your nose and chin are positioned inside the half mask.
If required, take hold of the filter, pull it forward and move the half mask so that it is positioned correctly over your mouth and nose.
All your hair must be tucked under the escape hood.
WARNING
Full beards, deep scars and long sideburns can cause leaks and put the wearer of the device at risk!
If the escape hood is used by children, an adult should make sure that the half mask is positioned correctly around the chin and nose. -
Check the sealing of the face mask: close the filter opening with the ball of your hand. If you can feel an airflow, correct the position of the half mask.

Breathe calmly! Breathing is slightly more difficult. The breathing air can become noticeably warmer, this is an indication that the filter is operating correctly.

Find an escape route to an emergency exit. If this is not possible, wait for the rescue teams to arrive! Knock on walls or stand at a window so that the rescuers can find you.
Maintenance
The maximum life time of the filtering escape hood is 8 years from the date of
manufacture. After the filter has been replaced once, the life time of the
escape hood is extended by a further 8 years. After 16 years have passed
dispose of the escape hood.
The escape hood must be maintained by competent personnel only.
Replace the filter of an unused escape hood if
- the plugs of the filter have been opened.
- the seal is damaged.
- the expiry date shown on the packaging has been exceeded.
- 8 years have passed.
Use the filter replacement kit; see the corresponding assembly instructions.
The Dragger PARAT 5550 has a one-time maximum life time of 8 years.
Afterwards, one filter replacement by the service of Dragger is possible.
5.1 Cleaning
For information on suitable cleaning products and disinfectants and their
specifications, see document 9100081 at:

Clean the bag for the Dragger PARAT 5550 with a mild cleaning agent in the event of contamination. Pre-treat any heavy contamination by cleaning the bag manually 2 .
- Remove the foil pouch from the bag before cleaning.
- Prepare a cleaning solution consisting of water and a cleaning agent.
- Clean the bag using a soft cloth and the cleaning solution.
- Then rinse thoroughly under running water. Ensure that the bag is completely dry after the cleaning process.
- Only then can the Dragger PARAT 5550, packaged in the foil pouch, be stored in the bag.
Storage
Store the escape hood in its packaging in a cool and dry place. Avoid direct sunlight and temperatures below -20°C and above +55 °C.
Disposal
Dispose of the filter and escape hood in accordance with the applicable local
waste disposal regulations.
