D OPERATION

PREPARATION FOR MEASUREMENT
Level and centre the instrument precisely to ensure an optimum performance.

  • Tripod
Extend the tripod legs to a suitable height and tighten them.

  • Fix the instrument onto the tripod
Attach the instrument onto the tripod carefully. Screw in the retaining bolt until the instrument is
    carfeully fixed.

  • Level the vials
For this power on the instrument; the electronic vial will appear automatically in the display after the beep. First adjust the ciruclar vial, then adjust the plate vial. The plate vial has been adjusted correctly and the instrument is leveled perfectly if the plate vial stays centered no matter in which direction the instrument is rotated.

  • When the vials have been centered press SFT to quit the display indication. Ground point centering

  • The ground point can be marked with the laser point.

POWER ON THE INSTRUMENT

  • Keep the ON/OFF key pressed for 1 sec.

  • A beep will sound and the electronic vial will be displayed.
When both directions X/Y have been levelled press SFT to quit this mode.
Now the instrument is ready for use.

  • The vertical angle indication will show the current value.

  • Press the key V/% to switch the vertical angel indication to %.

TILT CORRECTION FUNCTION
This theodolite is equipped with a compensator (display indication CRM). The TILT angle of the instrument will be compensated automatically by the device. If the instrument is tilted too much TILT will be shown on the display which means the instrument exceeds the compensator range. Level the instrument more precisely (for activation / de-activation see (SETTING METHODS).

PARAMETER SETTING
Keep 0SET pressed and power on the instrument
– >Display indication = parameter 1 (with the current setting)
Set parameter

  1. with R/L (OFF / 1-AX / 2x-AX) set the tilt correction
    Select parameter 2 with 0SET

  2. with R/L (OFF / ON) select the verticle angle indication OFF (zenith 0), ON (horizontal 0)
    Select parameter 3 with 0SET

  3. with R/L (OFF / ON) select automatic shut-off ON/OFF (automatic shut-off after 20 minutes)
    Select parameter 4 with 0SET

  4. with R/L (1“ / 5“ / 10“) set the minimum angle reading
    Select parameter 5 with 0SET

  5. with R/L set the angle unit (OFF = DEG / ON = GON)
Confirm the setting with SFT and quit this mode.

HORIZONTAL ANGLE 0SET (0SET)

  • Aim at the target.
  • Press 0SET; the reading of the horizontal angle starts flashing.
  • Keep 0SET pressed for 3 seconds. Now the horizontal angle reading is 0°00’ 00”:

The 0SET key is only effective for the horizontal angle.
The horizontal angle can be set 0 at any time except in the HOLD mode (HOLD key).

VERTICAL ANGLE SET

  • Keep R/L pressed while powering on the instrument with .
  • Display indication: SETUP
  • Display indication: F1
  • Press O-SET
  • Display indication: STEP 1 – first rotation (A)
  • Confirm the adjustment via collimator with O-SET
  • Rotate
  • Display indication STEP 2 – second rotation (B)
  • Confirm the adjustment via collimator with O-SET

MODE CONVERSION OF THE HORIZONTAL RIGHTWARD (HR) AND LEFTWARD (HL) TURNING INCREMENT
Standardly the horizontal angle mode is clockwise (display indication HR).
Press R/L to transform the horizontal angle mode to anti-clockwise (display indication HL).
The key R/L is of no effect to the vertical angle.
Press R/L again to transform the mode from HL to HR.

HORIZONTAL ANGLE LOCKED – UNLOCKED (HOLD)

  • Press HOLD; the horizontal angle reading will flash.
  • Keep HOLD pressed for 3 seconds.
  • Now the horizontal angle reading is locked and the reading stops flashing.
  • Press HOLD again to quit this mode / release the value

SLOPE PERCENT MODE (%)

  • Press V/% to switch the vertical angular reading shown in degrees into percent reading.
  • The maximum % value will be 99.999 %; exceeding this the display will show —,—- %

ANGULAR REPEATED MEASUREMENT

  • Press SFT + REP to start this mode.
  • T1 will flash in the display.
  • Aim at the first target and press 0SET; the horizontal reading will set to 0.
  • T2 will flash in the display.
  • Aim at the second target and press HOLD; display line 2 will show the average of the horizontal readings, display line 1 will show the number of repeated measurements.
  • T1 will flash in the display; now you can aim again at the first target and all following steps can be repeated as above.
  • Press SFT to quit this mode.

DISTANCE MEASUREMENT USING THE STADIA METHOD
A distance measurement can be carried out with FET 220K-L by using the crosshair

  • Read the levelling rod.
  • Aim the instrument‘s telescope at the levelling rod.
  • Multiply the value of the distance „d“ between the two stadia hairs with 100.
  • The result „D“ = the distance from the instrument centre to the levelling rod (D = d x 100).

AUTOMATIC SHUT-OFF
The automatic shut-off function will power off the instrument after 20 minutes without operation.
For activation and de-activation of this mode please refer to PARAMETER SETTING.

DISPLAY ILLUMINATION
In dark surroundings and at unfavourable light conditions the display can be illuminated.
Press SFT + V% to power on / off the display illumination.

USE OF THE LASER
With the built-in laser beam the target can be aimed at and marked. By focussing the laser dot can be
adjusted. Such, the marking of the target can be accomplished by one person only.
The laser beam is pulsed and can therefore be used together with any geo- FENNEL receiver for rotating lasers. Thus, FET 220K-L can be applied for any task that would require the use of a rotating laser.
The smallest diameter of the laser dot will be achieved if the laser beam is focussed.
By means of the laser beam all measuring tasks can be accomplished and will be visualized to the user.
