SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Read these instructions carefully before use, and save them for future reference.
- No replaceable components. Only the batteries are replaceable. Do not dismantle the product or attempt to repair it.
- The alarm function must only be tested with the test button on the product. Do not use any other test method.
- Do not remove the batteries – the product will not provide protection. If the product sets off an alarm and it is quite certain that it is a false alarm (no smoke or fire), open a window and/or fan the air around the product to stop the alarm.
- Follow all the local electrical installation and building regulations.
- The product is intended for a one-family house. In an apartment block each separate apartment must be supplied with its own smoke detector/fire alarm. The product must not be installed in buildings other than private residences. The product cannot replace a complete alarm system.
- The alarm signal is loud, so that it will be easily noticed. Nevertheless there are several circumstances that can prevent the alarm signal from being detected, for example strong background noise, deep sleep, diminished hearing, or the influence of alcohol or drugs. If a person in the household has diminished hearing a special alarm with light and/or vibration signals should be installed. To provide effective protection from personal injury or death, a smoke detector must be heard very quickly.
- Smoke detectors only set off an alarm when they detect smoke or combustion particles in the air. They do not detect naked flames or gas. In many cases a fire develops very quickly – a lot of flammable or explosive material, arson or negligence can accelerate the fire. In such circumstances it is not certain that the alarm in the product will be triggered quickly enough for those in the building to reach a safe place.
- Smoke detectors are not guaranteed to be functionally reliable and they can only alarm – they do not protect persons or property from fire. Smoke detectors cannot replace insurance. Home owners and tenants should have life and personal accident insurance, home and property insurance.
- Every alarm can be affected by faults, and malfunction. For this reason test this product every week and replace every 10 years.

DESCRIPTION
The fire alarm is a photoelectric smoke detector. The photoelectric technology makes the smoke detector more sensitive to slow shouldering fire that produces thick, black smoke, but moderate heat, and which can continue for several hours before bursting into flame. The smoke detector does not contain any radioactive substances and is therefore not harmful for the environment.
Smoke alarm
3 tone bursts in cycles of 1 second (0.5 s sound, 0.5 s silence), repeated
with 1.5 s interval, plus red flashing light from the status light.
Temperature alarm
Tone bursts in cycles of 0.3 second (0.2 s sound, 0.1 s silence), plus red
flashing light from the status light.
INSTALLATION
- Mounting hole
- Expander plug
- Attachment
- Screws
- Detector
FIG. 1
- Insert 2 x AA batteries in the battery compartment.
- Check that the smoke detector and its radio communication are working properly.
- Hold the attachment against the ceiling and mark out the mounting holes with a pen.
- Drill two 5 mm holes.. Tap the plugs in the holes with a hammer.
- Fit the attachment over the holes and screw in place with two 3×25 mm screws.
- Put the detector on the attachment and turn it clockwise to fasten in place.
- Test the smoke detector by pressing the test button. There should be cycles of 3 short tone busts and 1.5 s intervals until the test button is released.
- The smoke detector is defective if there is no sound. See the section on troubleshooting.
NOTE:
Always check that the smoke detector is firmly attached and cannot come loose
and drop down – risk of personal injury.
FLAT CEILING
Smoke, heat, burning fragments and sparks rise towards the ceiling and spread
out. The smoke detector should therefore be installed in the middle of the
ceiling.
If installation in the middle of the ceiling is not possible the smoke
detector can be put in an optional place on the ceiling, but at least 500 mm
from the nearest wall.
FIG. 2
SLOPING CEILING
Install 500 mm from the highest point.
- Do not put here
- Put it in this area
- Stationary air
FIG. 3
SUITABLE PLACES FOR INSTALLATION
- A smoke detector should be installed in each room in the building (excluding bathroom) to ensure that the alarm is set off in time and is heard by everyone in the building.
- As a minimum alternative at least one smoke detector should be installed in the hall/passageway between day room and bedroom. Place the smoke detector as close to day rooms as possible and check that the alarm signal can be clearly heard in the bedrooms.
- Install a smoke detector in the stairway and one or more on each floor.
NOTE:
Several factors can prevent smoke from reaching a smoke detector and setting
off an alarm in time. If a fire starts in a remote part of the building, on
another floor from where the product is installed, in a chimney, on the other
side of a closed door, or on the other side of a wall or ceiling, the smoke
may not reach the smoke detector quickly enough for people in the building to
be warned in time. A smoke detector does not immediately detect a fire in
rooms other than the room it is installed.
UNSUITABLE/INCORRECT INSTALLATION POINTS
- Near household appliances or areas in which burning normally takes place (kitchen, fireplace, hot water heater etc.).
- Areas very humid, for example bathrooms or beside dishwasher or washing machine. Install the smoke detector at least 3 metres from such areas.
- Near return air flows or near outlets from heating or air conditioning systems. Install the smoke detector at least 1 metre from such areas. The air flow can blow away the smoke and therefore prevent setting off the alarm.
- Rooms in which the temperature can be lower than 0°C or higher than 40°C.
- Very dusty or strongly polluted areas, or in areas when there are lots of insects.
USE
REPLACING THE BATTERY
- Grip the smoke detector casing, twist anticlockwise and unhook the detector from the wall/ceiling holder.
- Remove the old batteries from the battery compartment.
- Insert two new batteries in the battery compartment with the correct polarity.
- Put the detector on the wall/ceiling attachment and turn it clockwise to fasten in place.
- Test the smoke detector by pressing the test button. There should be cycles of 3 short tone busts and 1.5 s intervals. If there is no alarm signal the smoke detector is either defective or incorrectly installed. See troubleshooting section.
Replace the batteries at least once every year.
Do not disconnect the batteries to switch off a false alarm. Fan the air or
open a window to remove smoke or dust.
STATUS LIGHT
- The red status light flashes every 40 seconds to show that the smoke detector is working properly.
- If there is a battery fault or low battery voltage the smoke detector gives a short audio prompt every 40 seconds, together with the flashing red status light.
- A short audio prompt is given every 40 seconds for other faults.
- If the smoke detector is in quiet mode (alarm signal switched off) the red status light flashes every 8 seconds to show this.
NOTE:
Press the test button to switch off a false alarm signal (audio prompt every
40 seconds).
The false alarm then stays off for 8 hours.
The smoke detector still detects smoke, it is only the false alarm that is
temporarily switched off.
SILENT MODE
If an alarm is triggered the alarm signal can be switched off for about 10
minutes each time with the test button. The red status light flashes every 8
seconds to show that the smoke detector is in silent mode (alarm signal
switched off). Cookingcan set off an alarm if the smoke detector is installed
in a kitchen or near a cooker/kitchenette. Grilling, frying and spillage on
hot surfaces can produce large amounts of hot particles.
The normal alarm signal function is reset after about 10 minutes. The alarm
will go off again if there are still particles of smoke in the air.
The alarm signal can be switched off several times (silent mode) until the air
is free from the particles that triggered the false alarm.
NOTE:
This function should only be used to avoid the smell of cooking triggering a
false alarm.
TESTING THE ALARM FUNCTION
Test all the smoke detectors to verify correct installation and function. Test
the alarm function every week and when the home has been empty for some time,
such as during the holidays.
Stand at an arm’s length from the smoke detector when it is tested. Do not
test with a naked flame – risk of damaging the smoke detector.
- Press the test button for at least 5 seconds.
- There should be cycles of 3 short tone busts and 1.5 s intervals until the test button is released. The alarm can continue for a few seconds after the test button has been released.
When testing individual products other installed smoke detectors can also trigger an alarm. When the test button is released the other products should stop after 1 minute. The radio communication can be checked in this way.
