DIAGRAM B / TURNING THE BLANK
Turning the Blank
- Mount lathe centers and blank according to diagram B.
- Slide the Tailstock up snugly against the opening in handle, inserting the live center point into the hole.
- Lock Tailstock and hand tighten the quill adjustment with wheel to steady the blank. Do not over-tighten, it could split the blank.
- Using sharp tools, turn the barrel straight or to a profile of your choice. The bottom of the yolk has a diameter of .795” use calipers to make an exact match or make slightly larger and round the end to blend with the Yoke parts.
- Reduce the support stock as small as possible before sanding and finishing.
- Sand the blank smooth, gradually increasing sandpaper grits.
- Finish the barrel using your choice of polish. Allow sufficient time for the polish to cure—refer to polish manufacturer’s instructions.
- Part the handle off of the support stock–be prepared to catch the handle as the support is removed. Hand sand and finish the remaining portion where the support stock was
Assembly
- Thread Post into bottom of Yoke. Insert post into handle, test the fit to make sure the hole is deep enough that there is no gap.
- Mix a moderate amount of 2 part epoxy and spread inside hole in handle and along threads in Post.
- Slide Post into hole. You may wish to clamp or wrap handle and yoke together while glue cures.
- Once epoxy is cured, Slingshot is ready to use.
- Place one of the foam balls provided into the leather pouch, we found the best release was achieved gripping the ball directly from top and bottom as opposed to holding through the leather pouch. Pull back, aim, and release.
- Warning! Never aim towards people or animals. Please use responsibly.
