Using the appliance

Installation
Kitchen layout

  • Make sure that the room in which the cooker is installed is well-ventilated. It must be easy to access the control elements at all times.
  • Integrated units require coverings and adhesives which can resist temperatures of up to 100 °C. If this is not followed, the surface may be deformed and the covering will lift.
  • Install the cooker on a flat and solid surface.
  • Cooker hoods must be installed in line with recommendations and their instructions for use.
  • Before use, the cooker must be levelled, which is important for ensuring that fats and liquids are distributed evenly across cooking pans.
  • To level the appliance, use the adjustment feet which can be accessed once the drawer is removed. The adjustable feet measure 5 mm in height.

Installing the anti-tilt attachment
To avoid the cooker tilting, install the attachment provided with your product, following the procedure below:
Drill a hole 6.0 cm from the floor in the wall against which your cooker will be installed A.
Then, drill a second hole 10.3 cm from the floor B. Using the two screws and dowels provided, attach the flat angle bracket to the wall, aligning the holes in the bracket with the ones you’ve just drilled in the wall.VALBERG

NOTE
The appliance must only be connected to the electrical system by an approved professional. You must not carry out any modifications to the electrical system.
Indications for the installer
The device is configured at the factory for a single-phase AC power supply (230 V 1N ~ 50 Hz) and equipped with a H05VV-F 3G 4 mm² connection cable connected to the terminal block.
The wires of the connecting cable are marked as follows : phase wire L – BN – brown, neutral wire N – BU – blue, PE ground wire – GNYE – yellow + green.VALBERG VC 60 4MFC S 373P2 Vitroceramic Cooker - Indications for the
installerYou can configure the device for two-phase or three-phase (400 / 230V) power supply by bridging the terminals of the terminal block according to the table and the connection diagrams below, point 2 and point 3, then you must use a connection cable specified in the table instead of the cable supplied with the device. Use the connection bridges supplied with the device. To access the terminal block, remove the cover by lifting it off with a flathead screwdriver. Remember that the connecting wire must match the type of connection and the power rating of the stove.
Do not solder the cable ends. The cable sheath must be mounted in the strain relief device, which is suitable for cables with a diameter of 7 to 15 mm.

NOTE
Ensure you connect the earth connection to the cooker’s terminal, indicated by the ****symbol. The cooker’s electrical supply must be fitted with an emergency stop circuit breaker, which allows the electrical supply to be shut off at any time.
There must be a minimum distance of 3 mm between the emergency stop breaker contacts.
Before plugging the cooker into the electrical system, check the information provided on the serial panel and in the connection diagram.

NOTE

  • The installer is required to provide the user with the
    «Electrical Connection Certificate of the appliance ».

  • Connecting the unit in a manner other than that shown on the wiring diagram may damage the unit.

  • For all connections, the earth connection must be connected to the terminal next to the **** PE symbol.

Use of the appliance
Before using the cooker for the first time

  • Remove all packaging, empty the drawer, and clean the oven in order to eliminate any residue of products used to protect it,
  • Remove all accessories from the oven and clean them in warm water with a cleaning agent, • Turn on the ventilation system, or air out the room by opening a window,
  • Heat the oven to 250 °C, using the natural convection setting, for roughly 30 minutes, remove all residue.
  • Carefully clean the inside of the oven.

Clean the inside of the oven using warm water and a small amount of cleaning product only.
Mechanical timer

  • The timer is used to set the cooking time on your electric oven. The timer can be set from 5 to 120 minutes. Once the specified time has elapsed, the timer will beep and the oven automatically turns off. Programming – turn the knob clockwise and set the cooking time.
  • If the knob is turned to the “0” position, the oven will not turn on.
  • If you want to use the oven without the timer, the knob must be turned to the position.

NOTE
When setting the timer for 5 to 10 minutes, first turn the knob a quarter turn (90 degrees), and then select the required length of time.

Choosing the saucepan
Choose pots and pans with a size and base shape which approximately matches the surface of the heating zone. Do not use saucepans with a curved base. Make sure to use the right size of lid for the pots or pans, and centre them over the cooking zone. We recommend using pots and pans with flat, thick bottoms. Any dirt on cooking zones and saucepans prevents optimal use of the heat.

The heating power varies from zone to zone. To change the heating power, you just need to turn the knob to the right or left.

Residual heat indicator light
When in use, the glass becomes very hot. The residual heat indicator comes on to let the user know that the cooking zone is hot; it goes off when the temperature goes down to below 50 °C and the user can touch the surface again without risk of burns.
NOTE

Oven with fan forced air circuit
The oven can be heated from above, below and with a grill. Positions of the oven function knob

0 Zero setting
Fast heat-up time

The upper and lower heating elements, grill and fan are switched on.
This function allows the oven to be preheated quickly.
| Defrosting
Only the fan operates to allow fast defrosting.
| Super-ventilated grill
Using this function allows you to cook faster, cook larger quantities of food and improve its flavour.
| Enhanced grill (grill and top heating element)
The “enhanced grill” function allows you to grill while using the top heating element at the same time. A higher temperature is achieved in the upper part of the oven, in order to cook larger quantities and to brown the food.
| Single oven rack
This function allows you to grill thin/shallow dishes placed in the middle of the oven.
| Bottom heating element
This function only triggers the bottom heating element. You can use it to cook the base of your pastries or tarts, for example.
| Natural convection
This function allows you to cook food on a single level.
| Natural fan convection
This combination of functions makes it easier to cook pizzas, for example.
| Oven light
When the knob is positioned on this function, only the oven light turns on.
| ECO cooking mode
This function allows you to heat dishes with optimal energy efficiency. Cooking times may be slightly longer. In this position, the oven light does not come on.

Indicator lights
When the oven is turned on, two lights – a red light L and an orange light R – come on. The orange light indicates that the oven is on. The red light turns off when the oven has reached the selected temperature. If the recipe states that the dish must be placed in a preheated oven, wait until the red light switches off for the first time. During cooking, the light will regularly switch on and off (keeping the oven temperature constant). The orange light also turns on when you select the “Oven light” function.VALBERG VC 60 4MFC S

Dishes are grilled by infrared rays emitted by the grill’s incandescent heating element.
To switch on the grill, you need to:

  • Turn the knob to one of the following positions:
  • Heat the oven for approximately 5 minutes (oven door closed).
  • Insert the drip pan with your dish at the appropriate level. If you’re using the spit, place the drip tray on a level underneath the spit in order to collect any fat which runs off.
  • Close the oven door.
    See “Oven cooking” for temperatures corresponding to using the grill – Practical tips.

NOTE

  • When using the grill, make sure that the oven door is properly closed.
  • When using the grill, the outside of the oven can become extremely hot. Keep children away.

Oven cooking – practical tips
Baking

  • When baking pastries or cakes, we recommend using the drip tray supplied with the appliance or placing a baking sheet placed on the shelf,
  • You can also use moulds and drip trays that are available to buy in stores. You need to place them on the rack. We recommend using black trays for pastries, which conduct heat better and reduce cooking time,
  • You do not need to preheat the oven if you’re using the fan-assisted function. Otherwise, you need to preheat it before putting in pastries,
  • Before removing your pastries/cakes from the oven, check that they are properly cooked, using a wooden skewer (if the mixture is cooked, the skewer will come out clean and dry),
  • We recommend leaving your pastry/cake in the oven for roughly 5 minutes after switching it off. The cooking temperature with the fan-assisted function is approximately 20 to 30 degrees lower than conventional cooking (using upper and lower elements).
  • The guidelines provided in the cooking chart below are approximate, and can be altered depending on the experience and culinary preferences of the user,
  • If the instructions in your recipe book differ from those presented here, please follow these instructions.

Cooking and roasting meat

  • The oven is designed to cook cuts of meat weighing more than 1 kg. We recommend cooking smaller portions on the hob,
  • We recommend using heat-resistant saucepans. Their handles must also be able to withstand high temperatures,
  • If using a rack or a turn-spit, we recommend placing a drip tray underneath, containing a small quantity of water.
  • Meat should normally be turned at least once halfway through cooking. A roast joint should also be basted, with its juices or using hot, salted water. Do not spray the joint with cold water.

ECO cooking mode

  • When using the ECO mode, the appliance automatically activates the optimum energysaving settings during cooking.
  • Cooking time will not be reduced if you use a higher temperature setting and there is no need to preheat the oven before cooking.
  • Do not adjust the temperature setting or open the oven door while cooking.

Useful information

Cleaning and maintenance
To extend the life span of the cooker, the user must look after it properly, following the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Before cleaning the cooker, unplug it from the power supply and make sure that all knobs are set to the ‘•’ / ‘0’. position. Only clean the hob once the residual heat light has gone off.

Glass ceramic hob

  • The hob must be cleaned after each use. Where possible, we advise cleaning the hob when it is warm (the residual heat light should NOT be on). Avoid heavy soiling on the hob in particular, and avoid burning overflowed liquids.
  • Do not use abrasive products, such as scouring powders containing abrasive agents, abrasive pastes, stones, pumices, steel wool, etc. They may scratch the cooker surface and cause permanent damage.
  • To eliminate any dirt stuck or encrusted onto the surface, use the scraper provided with the appliance. Be careful not to damage the frame of the ceramic hob.

NOTE
Before putting the scraper away, always make sure to push the sharp edge into the scraper (just press on the protruding section with your thumb). Handle with care – injury risk – keep away from children.

  • We recommend using gentle and appropriate cleaning products, such as liquids and emulsions that eliminate grease. We particularly recommend using products specifically made for cleaning and maintaining glass ceramic appliances. We also recommend using warm water with a cleaning product.
  • For cleaning, use a soft cloth that effectively absorbs humidity.
  • The glass ceramic hob must be carefully dried after cleaning.
  • Take particular care not to damage the glass-ceramic hob, to avoid deep scratches or cracks following impacts caused by metal utensils or other sharp-edged objects.

CAUTION

  • Do not use abrasive products to clean or maintain the appliance.
  • To clean the control panel, only use warm water with a small quantity of washing-up liquid, or glass cleaner. Do not use abrasive products.

Oven

  • Clean the oven while it’s still warm.
  • The oven must be cleaned after each use. For extra visibility, clean the oven with its light switched on.
  • Clean the inside of the oven using warm water and just a small amount of cleaning product.
  • Thoroughly wipe the oven dry after cleaning.

NOTE
Do not use abrasive products to clean and maintain the door windows.

  • The wire rails of the oven can be easily removed. To clean shelves, lift the front hook of the runner, spread it out slightly and remove the rear hook.   • The oven’s panels are covered with a special, self-cleaning enamel. This enamel automatically eliminates any dirt, grease or food residue, unless this is baked on or burnt. Catalytic cleaning can take a long time; to avoid this lengthy process, any food residue or grease should be wiped off as soon as possible before it becomes baked in or burnt. To use the self-cleaning feature, turn the temperature to 250°C and leave on for 1 hour. The length of time can be reduced if there is not too much dirt or residue.

During cleaning, the surfaces may be hotter than in normal use. Keep children away.

  • Catalytic cleaning involves high energy consumption; Therefore, we recommend removing excessive splashes before using this function. If the user notices that the catalytic enamel plates are becoming less efficient, they can contact the after-sales service to change them. If you choose a traditional cleaning method, remember that self-cleaning enamel is not abrasion-resistant so you need to avoid using hard cloths or abrasive cleaning products.

panels How to take off the door

  • The door can be removed to make it easier to clean inside the oven. To do this, open the door and lift up the hinge guard (fig. A ). Then, gently close the door, lift it and remove it by pulling it towards you.
  • To replace the door after cleaning, perform the same actions in the reverse order. When reinstalling the door, make sure that the hook is properly positioned in the hinge slot. Once the door is attached, lower the hinge guard and tighten it securely.
  • Incorrect positioning of the guards could cause damage to the hinges when closing the door.

How to remove the inner glass

  1. Detach the upper panel of the door using a flat screwdriver, lifting it gently at the sides (fig. B ).

  3. Detach the inner glass from its mount (in the lower part of the door). Removing the inner glass. (fig. D ).
  4. Wash the glass using warm water and a little cleaning product. To replace the glass, follow the same procedure but in the reverse order. The smooth part should be at the top.

CAUTION
Do not push both sides of the upper door panel simultaneously.

until How to change the halogen oven light bulb
To avoid the possibility of electric shock, ensure that the equipment is switched off and disconnected from the power supply before replacing the halogen bulb.

  • Turn the oven knobs to the •/0 position and disconnect the unit from power supply.

  • Unscrew, wash the cover and dry it throughout.

  • Remove the halogen bulb using a cloth or paper. If necessary, replace the halogen bulb with a new one:
    1. Voltage 230 V
    2. Power 25 W
    3. G9.

  • Precisely position the halogen bulb in the recess.

  • Attach the cover.

Trouble shooting
If there is any damage, take the following actions:

  • Turn off the cooker,
  • Switch off the power supply,
  • However, the user may be able to solve some of the problems according to the following guidelines; before contacting the after-sales service department or other repair service, check the points in the following table.
