GE 45115 Personal Security Window and Door Alarm
What’s In the Box?
Low Battery Indicator
The alarm unit has a low battery circuit. When the batteries reach a low level, the indicator light will flash slowly. The average battery life for typical usage is up to one year.
INSTALLING BATTERIES
The keypad-controlled door alarm requires three (3) AAA Alkaline batteries (not included).
To install the batteries
- Remove the screw from the battery compartment door located on the back of the unit. Slide off the door in the direction of the arrow.
- Insert three (3) AAA batteries noting the polarity diagram inside the battery compartment.
- Replace the door and secure the screw.
CREATING YOUR PERSONAL ALARM CODE
The keypad allows you to set a personal 4- digit code for arming and
disarming the alarm.
-
Remove the screw from the battery compartment door located on the back of the unit. Slide off the door in the direction of the arrow.
-
Press the LEARN button.
-
The red light on the front of the alarm will blink for 15 seconds. During this time, input your 4-digit code. A beep will confirm each input. The unit will flash a green light 3 times to confirm the new 4-digit code has been saved.
-
Replace the cover and secure the screw.
INSTALLATION
- Select the desired location for the alarm. The alarm is designed to mount to the door frame or to the door itself. Use either the provided screws (for permanent mounting) or double-sided tape (for temporary mounting). The recommended location is the back of the door, with the magnet mounted to the door frame. Mounting the alarm to the door ensures that the alarm will not be damaged by opening and closing the door.
Note that the magnet may be mounted to either side of the alarm as long as the arrows line up.
IMPORTANT : Whether mounting to the door or door frame, the gap distance between the alarm and magnet must be 1/2” or less.
- Attach the mounting plate to the back of the alarm. Peel the protective covering from one side of the double-sided tape and then apply it to the mounting plate. Remove the protective covering from the back side of the double-sided tape and lightly mount the alarm in the desired position. Make sure the surface you are mounting to is clean and dry. For best results, clean the mounting surface with a mixture of 50% isopropyl alcohol and 50% water.
Do not apply firm pressure until the location is final.
NOTE
When mounting to a door frame, the mounting plate mounts off-center to the
left or right in order to position the alarm closest to the edge of the door.
-
Using double-sided tape, lightly attach the magnet to the opposite edge next to the alarm. Line up the arrows of
the alarm and the magnet. Ensure the distance between the two pieces is 1/2” or less. To test the gap distance, slide the ALARM/CHIME switch to CHIME and open the door. If a chime sounds, then the gap distance is correct. If it does not sound, move either the alarm or magnet closer so that the gap distance is 1/2” or less. -
Once you have confirmed the correct positioning of the magnet and alarm, lift the alarm off the mounting plate and apply firm pressure directly to the plate itself. Once secured, reattach the alarm to the mounting plate.
-
Apply firm pressure to the magnet to secure its position as well.
OPERATING IN THE ALARM MODE
- Locate the ALARM/CHIME switch on the right side of the alarm unit.
- Slide switch to ALARM position.
- Choose HOME or AWAY on the left side of the alarm unit.
HOME MODE
In HOME mode, the alarm will sound when the gap between the alarm and the
magnet is greater than 1/2” (i.e. the door is opened).
AWAY MODE
In AWAY mode, there will be a 45-second exit delay before the unit is armed.
The alarm’s indicator light will flash red quickly, alerting you that the unit
has been activated and has begun the 45-second count down. The delay allows
time for you to leave the protected area without triggering the alarm. When
returning to the protected area, there is a 30-second delay to allow time to
enter a 4-digit code before the alarm will sound.
Arming the Alarm
- Arm the alarm by pressing your 4-digit code. When the 4 digit code is entered correctly the unit will flash a green light once. NOTE: if the 4-digit code is entered incorrectly, the unit will sound a higher tone and flash red 3 times.
Disarming the Alarm
- Enter your 4-digit code to disarm the alarm. When the fourth digit of your code is entered, the unit will respond with two tones and will flash a green light twice.
- Enter the correct code anytime after the alarm has sounded to deactivate. NOTE: When testing, a cloth can be used to cover the alarm to reduce risk of hearing damage.
Incorrect Code
If an incorrect code is entered, the unit will sound a louder beep and will
flash red 3 times. Re-enter the correct code after the light stops flashing.
OPERATING IN THE CHIME MODE
- Locate the ALARM/CHIME switch on the right side of the unit.
- Slide switch to CHIME mode.
Activating the Chime
- The chime will now sound immediately if the distance between the alarm and the magnet is greater than 1/2” (i.e. the door is opened).
Deactivating the Chime
- CHIME switched to ALARM position. To deactivate the chime slide ALARM.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
To clean the alarm housing, use a soft cloth slightly dampened with water and wipe dry. Do not use chemical agents as this may damage and discolor the unit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can this alarm be installed on sliding doors?
Once the alarm is set off, can it be turned off by just closing the door and/or window?
Yes, it should shut off just by closing the door/ window.
Does the chime and or alarm setting shut off when door closes?
The chime setting will chime each time the door/window is opened. The alarm setting will sound an alarm until the door/window is completely closed.
How long does alarm go on?
Since the batteries were dead when they arrived and I have not replaced them I assume they go until you turn them off or the batteries die. I think someone pulled the tab that activated the battery and that was what happened to mine. They also do not come with adhesive so you have to buy double-stick tape.
Will these work on a sliding patio door?
Yes most definitely. They will work most anywhere. We have them on all our doors and keep us aware of the grandbaby's tries to go out. Really a great product.
Are these alarms UL 2017 certified?
They are decently loud alarms though. They work well for their intended purpose.
Has anyone found a way to screw these on?
There is no screw just peel off the tape on the back of the alarm and stick it where u want it to be.
What is the best way to set this and get out the door?
If somebody gets in and closes the door. It goes off. Doesn't show when you come back if it was opened.
Do these work on casement windows?
As long as you're able to mount the magnet and the piece containing the batteries within 1/2 inch of each other, and when the window opens they're more than 1/2 inch apart, yes these will work.
How to lower the volume?
How close does the sensor need to be to the magnetic strip for the alarm to be in the non-alerting state?
Our GE Personal Security Window/Door Alarm is magnetic and should be mounted within 1/2” or less between the two pieces for this to work properly. It is preferable to have it as close as possible.
How are they installed on a door?
One part (the largest) is glued to the door the receiver is fastened to the frame. When the door is closed they make contact. When the unit is on and the door is opened the alarm sounds.
Does this work on sliding patio door?
As long as the unit is mounted properly this should work on a sliding patio door.
