CONNEX DY270623 Automatic Lashing Belt
Thank you for purchasing a CONNEX-product. Please read these operating instructions carefully before using the strap. Failure to observe these operating instructions can result in personal injuries, damage to your vehicle or the load. Please retain the operating instructions together with the receipt.
Safety information
-
When selecting and using lashing straps it is important to consider the lashing capacity needed as well as the type of use and the load to be lashed. The size, shape and weight of the load are most important for selecting the proper straps, but the intended use, the transport environment and the load type must also be taken into account. For reasons of stability, you must use at least two lashing straps for lashing down, and two pairs of lashing straps for diagonal lashing.
-
The lashing strap selected must be both strong and long enough for the intended use and be of the correct length with regard to the lashing method. Common sense lashing practice must be applied: Before the trip, plan how you intend to attach and remove the lashing straps. For longer trips, partial unloading must be taken into account. The number of lashing straps must be calculated in accordance with EN 12195-1: 2010. Only lashing systems designed for lashing down with S, / T, on the label may be used for lashing down. Check the tension force regularly, especially shortly after starting the journey.
-
Do not use different types of lashing gear (e.g. lashing chains and lashing straps made of man-made fibres) for lashing the same load. These may behave and elongate differently under load. When using additional fittings and lashing gear, make sure it is compatible with the lashing strap.
-
Releasing the lashing straps: Before you release the lashing straps, make sure the load is stable even without lashing, so as to prevent harm to due to items falling onto the personnel unloading. If necessary, attach the slings needed for further transport prior to releasing the lashing straps in order to prevent the load from falling down and/or tipping over. This also applies when using tensioners, which enable safe removal.
-
Before unloading, the lashings must be released enough so that the load is freestanding.
-
When loading and unloading, check if there are any low-hanging overhead lines in the vicinity.
-
The materials from which lashing straps are made have different degrees of resistance to chemical influences. The manufacturer’s or supplier’s instructions should be followed if the lashing straps are likely to be exposed to chemicals. Take into account that the effects of the chemical influence increase at higher temperatures. The resistance of synthetic fibres to chemical effects is summarised below:
- Polyamides are resistant to effect of alkalis They are, however, corroded by mineral acids.
- Polyester is resistant to mineral acids, but corroded by lyes.
- Polypropylene is not significantly affected by acids and alkalis and is suitable for applications where high resistance to chemicals is required (apart from some organic solvents).
- Harmless acid or alkali solutions may become more concentrated due to evaporation and can cause damage as a result. Contaminated lashing straps must be decommissioned immediately, rinsed in cold water and air-dried.
-
Lashing straps that comply with this part of European standard EN 12195 are
suitable for use for the following temperature ranges:- -40 °C to + 80 °C for polypropylene (PP)
- -40 °C to + 100 °C for polyamide (PA)
- -40 °C to + 120 °C for polyester (PES)
These temperature ranges can change depending on the chemical environment. In this case, contact the manufacturer or supplier for recommendations. Changes in ambient temperature during transport can impact the tension present in the straps. The lashing force must be checked after entering warm regions.
-
Lashing straps must be decommissioned or returned to the manufacturer for repair if they show any signs of damage. The following points are considered signs of damage:
- For straps (which are to be taken out of service): cracks, cuts, notches and breaks in load-bearing fibres and seams, deformations due to heat;
- For end fittings and tensioners: Deformation, cracks, strong signs of wear and tear and corrosion Only lashing straps with identification labels may be repaired.
In the event of accidental contact with chemicals, the lashing strap must be decommissioned and the manufacturer or supplier must be contacted.
-
Make sure not to damage the lashing strap on the edges of the load that is lashed. We recommend you perform regular visual checks before and after each use.
-
Only legibly marked and labelled lashing straps are to be used.
-
Lashing straps must not be overloaded: the maximum hand force may only be applied with one hand. Do not use mechanical aids such as rods or levers etc., unless they are part of the tensioner.
-
Do not use knotted lashing straps.
-
Damage to labels must be prevented by keeping them away from the edges of the load and, if possible, away from the load.
-
Straps are to be protected against friction and abrasion as well as against damage caused by loads with sharp edges by using protective covers and/or edge protectors.
-
Do not use lashing straps for lifting, towing or securing people.
-
Make sure that the vehicle parts to which the load is attached are sufficient rigid. Please take into account any additional acceleration forces and lateral forces that can occur due to wind and road bumps.
Using the device
Lashing down
- Put the ratchet lever (3) into position A. You will need to release the latch (4) to do this.
- Position the fixing hook (1b) into the appropriate place and pull the lashing hook (1 a) to the desired position to fix it securely in place. Z
- Put the ratchet lever into position B. You will need to release the latch (4) to do this.
- Use the ratchet lever (3) to lash the belt in place.
Releasing
- Put the ratchet lever (3) into position A. You will need to release the latch (4) to do this,
- Pull on the belt to release the tension.
- Unhook the belt at both ends,
- Use the recoil brake (2) to make the belt roll up automatically.
Straps with tie-down hooks
- Only hook tie-down hooks to fixed load fastening points.
- Please ensure that the hook is not subjected to the maximum load.
- Never engage the hooks on edges.
- Please always make sure that the hooks are firmly engaged and do not detach from their anchoring during tightening.
Storage
- Please store your strap in dry rooms heated only to low temperatures and protected from UV radiation (sun) and never together with chemicals.
- Never dry the wet belt near a fire or at high temperatures.
Cleaning
- To ensure the functionality of the ratchet when used frequently, we recommend regular greasing of the moving parts.
- Only clean straps with a lukewarm, mild soft soap solution and a fine brush.
Caution: Direct contact with certain surfaces (e.g. materials such as plastics, varnished surfaces, etc.) may cause pigments from the belt material to be transferred. Possible stains or marks can be prevented by the use of suitable interlayers.
