ELAN 1.5.1 Management Cloud

ELAN-1-5-1-Management-Cloud-product

Product Information

The Management Cloud is a software system that allows users to manage and update their ELAN Controllers. The current version is 1.5.1, released on June 7, 2023. This version introduces several new features and fixes various issues.

To utilize the Management Cloud, the ELAN Controllers must be running Core OS 8.8 or later. The Core OS 8.8 installer is only available for Windows. Controllers can be updated to Core OS 8.8  and subsequent versions using Management Cloud 1.5 and later, which are compatible with both Windows and MacOS. However, the Configurator (Classic) is only available on Windows. During the transition to cross-platform configuration and Over-the-Air (OTA) controller updates, it is important for installers to have access to a Windows PC or a PC emulator on Mac. This is necessary for running Windows executable installers and restoring Configurator (Classic) .ebk backup files.

OTA Version Control is a feature in Management Cloud that allows users to perform Over-The-Air (OTA) ELAN Controller Updates. These updates are faster than traditional Windows executable updates and can be done locally or remotely via Management Cloud on both Windows and MacOS. To access OTA Version Control, the controller must be running Core 8.8 build or later, and Management Cloud 1.5 or later must be used. Users can simply navigate to their location in Management Cloud and click on the cloud download icon next to the current core version of their controller to access version control options.

If there are extenders attached to the controller, users will be prompted to include them in the update routine. It is recommended to perform a local backup before installing any updates. A cloud backup and restore option will be available later this year as part of the OTA Version Control workflow. Management Cloud initiates OTA updates, but the controller(s) download the update, install it, and reboot. The bandwidth for OTA updates is primarily determined by the controllers’ network. Users can initiate the update in Management Cloud and continue with other tasks as the updates progress. The version and status updates can be seen by refreshing the Location when the controller comes back online.

For Configurator v2, OTA Version Control, and related features to work, controllers must be running ELAN core release 8.8 or later. When adding a controller as a Location in Management Cloud, it must be running ELAN core release 8.3.11 or later. However, the Quick Connect function in Management Cloud is not dependent on the core release version running on the controller. The Management Cloud has certain system requirements that need to be met for optimal performance. The 1.5.1 release of Management Cloud includes several fixes related to the Autonomic Premium License application, device status refactoring for faster access to OTA, Viewer, and Configurator buttons, inclusion of video notes in global search, default checkbox settings for OTA updates with extenders, and smarter cursor placement on the login screen.

Product Usage Instructions

  1. Ensure that your ELAN Controllers are running Core OS 8.8 or later.
  2. If your controllers are not running Core OS 8.8, update them from a Windows machine using the Core OS 8.8 installer.
  3. Once your controllers are running Core OS 8.8, you can use Management Cloud 1.5 or later for further updates.
  4. To access OTA Version Control, go to your location in Management Cloud and click on the cloud download icon next to the current core version of your controller.
  5. If you have extenders attached to your controller, you will be prompted to include them in the update routine.
  6. Before installing any updates, it is recommended to perform a local backup.
  7. You can initiate the OTA update in Management Cloud and continue with other tasks as the progress of the update.
  8. Once the controller comes back online, refresh the Location to see the version and status updates.
  9. For Configurator v2, OTA Version Control, and related features to work, ensure that your controllers are running ELAN core release 8.8 or later.
  10. When adding a controller as a Location in Management Cloud, it must be running ELAN core release 8.3.11 or later.
  11. The Quick Connect function in Management Cloud is not dependent on the core release version running on the controller.

The controller must be running Core OS 8.8 and later. The Core OS 8.8 installer is only available for Windows. Please update controllers from a Windows machine and subsequent updates can be done with Management Cloud 1.5 and later, on Windows and MacOS. Configurator (Classic, aka Config v1) is only available on Windows.

It is imperative that Installers retain access to a Windows PC, or PC emulator on Mac, for running Windows executable installers as necessary, and for restoring Configurator (Classic, aka Config v1) .ebk backup files, during this transition to cross-platform configuration and Over-the-Air (OTA) controller updates.

Management Cloud OTA Version Control

ELAN-1-5-1-Management-Cloud-fig-11

  • Over-The-Air (OTA) ELAN Controller Updates are faster than the traditional Windows executable update and can be performed locally or remotely via Management Cloud for Windows and MacOS.
  • Your controller must be running Core 8.8 build or later, and you must be using Management Cloud 1.5 or later to access this function. Just go to your location in Management Cloud, and next to the current core version listed for your controller, click on the cloud download icon to see your version control options.
  • If you have extenders attached, you will be prompted to optionally include those in the update routine. As with all installation, performing a local backup first is recommended. We will be offering a cloud backup & restore option as part of the OTA Version Control workflow later this year.
  • Management Cloud initiates OTA updates, but the controller(s) download the update, install and reboot, so bandwidth for OTA is primarily dictated by your controllers’ network. This means you can initiate the update in Management Cloud and then close the dialog and do other tasks as the updates continue. Refresh the Location to see version and status update when controller comes back online.
  • It is imperative that Installers retain access to a Windows PC, or PC emulator on Mac, for running Windows executable installers as necessary, and for restoring Configurator (Classic) .ebk backup files, during this transition to cross-platform configuration and Over-the-Air (OTA) controller updates.

Please see Management Cloud 1.5 Release Notes for other feature updates
