GENERAL APPLICATION NOTES

This product is part of personal protective equipment (PPE) for protection against falls from height and should be assigned to a person. These instructions contain vital information. The instructions must have been understood by the user before actual use. The reseller must provide this document in the language spoken in the country of use and it must be kept together with the equipment during the entire service life. The following instructions for use are important and help ensuring proper practical application. However, they cannot replace experience, responsible action and knowledge required for mountaineering, climbing, and working at height; and they certainly cannot free users from assessing their personal risk. The product must be used exclusively by trained, experienced persons or by instructed persons who are being supervised. Users must be aware that poor physical and/or mental health can jeopardise safety under normal conditions and in emergencies. Attention: If these instructions for use are not carefully observed, the life of persons may be at risk!

GENERAL SAFETY NOTES

Mountaineering, climbing and working at heights often entail hidden dangers and risks caused by external influences. Errors and carelessness may cause severe accidents, injuries, and even death. If this product is combined with other components, these may mutually affect safety. Use only CE marked components as personal protective equipment (PPE) for protection against falling from height. If original components of the product are modified or removed, the safety properties may be influenced adversely. The equipment should not be altered, modified or adjusted by use of additional parts in any way not specifically recommended by the manufacturer in writing. Before and after use, check the product for possible damages. Ensure correct function and suitability for use. If in doubt concerning the safety condition of the product, remove it from use immediately. In case of abuse and/or improper use, the manufacturer refuses any liability. In such cases, the responsibility and risk lie with the users or persons responsible for the operation. When using this product, we recommend additionally observing the applicable national rules. Personal protective equipment is exclusively designed for securing of persons.

PRODUCT-SPECIFIC INFORMATION, FIGURE CAPTIONS
Before using the equipment, the user must ensure a rescue plan that in the event of falling into the PPE-system, the person caught can be rescued immediately, safely and effectively. Motionless suspension in a harness may cause severe injury and even death (suspension trauma).

ANCHOR POINTS
For safety reasons it is essential to choose the position of the anchorage device or anchorage point and the type of work to be carried out must be selected in such a way that free fall and fall height are kept to a minimum. In order to avoid high loads and swinging falls in the event of a fall, anchor points for belay purposes must always be as vertical as possible above the person to be belayed. The lanyard/ anchor device from the anchor point to the person secured should always be kept as taut as possible. Slack ropes must be avoided! The anchor point must be designed in such a way that, when fixing the PPE, no effects can occur which reduce the stability and it is not damaged during use. Sharp edges, ridges and crushing can seriously impair the stability. These should be covered, where necessary, using suitable auxiliary equipment. The anchor point and the anchoring must be able to withstand the expected loads in a worst-case scenario. Even when using shock absorbers (according to EN 355) the anchor points should be designed for catching forces of at least 12 kN, also see EN 795.

APPLICATIONS

12841-B: The rope ascender is not appropriate for fall arrests purposes.Any dynamic load or overload may damage the anchor line. When ascending the working line with the device weighted by the whole weight of the user, it should always be used in conjunction with a back-up device certified to EN 12841-A on a second independent safety line when working at height. Maximum length of the lanyard plus connector should be within 1 m.
567: The user should not rely on a single ascender and the use of two ascenders in parallel is strongly recommended, e.g. chest and hand ascender in combination.

NOMENCLATURE OF PARTS

A: Body (with marking),
B: Rope channel,
C: Locking cam,
D: Opening/safety/release lever,
E: Attachment point,
F: Trailing connection point,
G: Back Plate (with marking).
b) Uni Cruiser.

USE LIMITATION
a) Minimum sheath breaking strength.
b) No loading over edges.
c) /-d) Only use designated attachment points.
e) Only use EN 362 connectors (directional connector recommended) or EN 12275 (only locking) connectors for the lower attachment point.
f) Never attach karabiner to lever.

INSTALLATION AND TESTING
Attention! Do not use on metal cables or plied ropes.
EN 567: Only use ropes to EN 892 of the diameter range 8 < Ø < 12 mm.
EN 12841: Only use Kernmantelropes to EN 1891 of the diameter range 9 < Ø < 13 mm.
Don’t exceed the maximal weight incl. equipment of 150 kg.
Heat, cold (icing), moisture, oil and dust can impair the function.

INSTRUCTION OF USE FOR UNI CRUISER
Attention, when the angle between the fixed rope and the direction of the load exceeds 45°, the rope should be secured with a locking carabiner (see d-f).

INSTRUCTION OF USE FOR CHEST CRUISER
Attention: Do not lean back in the chest rope clamp when the anchor is offset (see d). Attention, when the angle between the fixed rope and the direction of the load exceeds 45°, the rope should be secured with a locking carabiner (see e-f).

FALL ON THE DEVICE
The anchor point must always be located at or above waist level to minimise the eventual free fall distance (see Fig. 6). Attention when close to the anchor as energy absorption from the rope is minimal and this may damage the rope.

BACK PLATE REPLACEMENT
Expert use only. Use dedicated back plates only on the Cruiser body. When replacing the body, use a new dedicated screw with the correct torque indicated, each time.

CHEST CRUISER SLING REPLACEMENT
Only use dedicated Chest Cruiser sling

CLIMATE REQUIREMENTS

SERVICE LIFE AND REPLACEMENT
The service life of the product mainly depends on the type and frequency of use as well as on external influences. When approaching the durability limits or at the end of the maximum service life indicated, the product must be removed from use. Products made of synthetic fibres (Polyamid, Polyester, Dyneema, Aramid, Vectran) are subject to some aging even if not used; their service life especially depends on the intensity of the ultraviolet radiation and other climatic conditions they are exposed to. When approaching the durability limits or the end of the maximum service life indicated, the product must be removed from use.

Material: Aluminium, Plastic, PES
Maximum service life
With optimum storage conditions and without use:
Metal Parts: No maximum service span;
Textile Parts: 14 years.
Maximum useful life
Providing proper use and no detectable sign of wear showing as well as under
optimum storage conditions:
Metal Parts: No maximum useful life;
Textile Parts: 10 years

Frequent use or extremely high loading may substantially reduce the useful life.
Therefore, before use, check the product for possible damages and correct function. Remove the product from service immediately if any of the followingapplies

  • if there are doubts concerning safe use;
  • if sharp edges have the potential to damage the rope of hurt the user;
  • if visible signs of damage material (e.g. cracks, plastic deformation);
  • if the material shows deep corrosion;
  • if lever does not close by itself and fully;
  • if textile shows cuts;
  • if textile is significantly abraded (e.g. fuzziness);
  • if textile shows red indicator thread.
  • if the product has been subjected to a hard fall load or high shock loads occurring in a pendulum fall.

INSPECTION AND DOCUMENTATION

In case of commercial use, the product must be inspected regularly or at least once a year by the manufacturer, a qualified person or an approved inspection body/agency; thereafter it may have to be serviced or removed from use. Legibility of the markings has to be checked. Such inspections and service must be documented for each product. The following information must be recorded: Product identification and name, manufacturer’s name and contact details, unique identification, date of manufacture, date of purchase, date of initial use,date of next regular inspection, result of inspection, and signature of qualified person responsible. A suitable specimen is found at www.edelrid.com In case of commercial use, the relevant information contained in this user manual must be made available to each user before using the product.
