Product Information
The product is a Kwikset SmartCode 913 Electronic Deadbolt with a keypad. The
package includes a latch, interior assembly, exterior assembly, transitional,

The deadbolt requires batteries and can be unlocked using the keypad or a key.
It is compatible with doors that are either 2-1/8 in (54 mm) or 1-1/2 in (38
mm) thick and have a backset of either 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 in (60 or 70 mm).
The product comes with required tools, including batteries, a ruler,
screwdrivers, and additional tools such as a hammer, wood block, adapter ring,
mounting plate, strike, and collar.
Product Usage Instructions
- Prepare the door and check dimensions:
- If drilling a new door, use the supplied template and complete door drilling instructions available at www.kwikset.com/doorprep.
- Confirm that the door is either 2-1/8 in (54 mm) or 1-1/2 in (38 mm) thick with a backset of either 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 in (60 or 70 mm).
- Additional door preparation may be required for doors with 1-1/2 in (38 mm) holes. Consult the deadbolt drilling instructions at www.kwikset.com/doorprep.
- Confirm that the door edge is 1 in (25 mm) and between 1-3/8 and 1-3/4 in (35 mm and 44 mm) thick. If the door thickness exceeds 1-3/4 in, contact customer service for a thick door kit.
- Install the latch and strike:
- Hold the latch in front of the door hole and confirm that the rectangular-shaped hole is centered in the door hole. If not, rotate the latch face as shown to extend the latch.
- If the door edge is chiseled, install the strike on the door frame. If not, remove the latch face with a flathead screwdriver, twist collar off, and install drive-in collar.
- Install the latch in the door with supplied screws. Make sure the hole in the door frame is drilled at least 1 in (25 mm) deep and that the slotted hole is at the bottom of the latch. Align tabs with holes in collar and ensure collar snaps into place. Install latch in the door with wood block and hammer. Make sure the latch bolt is fully retracted (in the unlocked position).
- Install the exterior keypad:
- Confirm the diameter of the hole in the door. If it is 2-1/8 in (54 mm), an adapter ring is not needed for installation. If it is 1-1/2 in (38 mm), an adapter ring is required.
- Locate screws for step 3C and keep them within reach.
- Install exterior keypad and mounting plate. Rotate the flat blade to a horizontal position to match the latch orientation. Support exterior assembly during mounting plate installation and make sure bolt is retracted. Cable goes underneath latch. The top of the mounting plate should be visible and kept parallel to edge of door. Tighten screws evenly, but do not over-tighten screws. Make sure the flat blade is centered in the mounting plate hole.
- Programming:
- Follow the instructions in the user manual to program the lock with a new user code and to test the lock.
