Product Information

The 2-Channel Line Isolation Box is a passive device that belongs to the River Series. It is available with user manuals in multiple languages including German, English, Italian, French, Spanish, and Polish. The product is designed and manufactured by KYLL in Frankfurt, Germany. The device is used to isolate a balanced or unbalanced signal to prevent ground loop hum. The balanced signal level remains the same as the input signal after isolation.

Product Usage Instructions

To use the 2-Channel Line Isolation Box, follow these steps:

  1. Connect the input signal to the input jack of the device.
  2. Connect the output signal to the output jack of the device.
  3. If using a balanced signal, ensure that both the positive and negative signals are connected to their corresponding jacks on the device.
  4. If using an unbalanced signal, connect the signal to the input jack and leave the negative jack unconnected.
  5. Power is not required for this device, it is passive.

By following these steps, you can effectively isolate your audio signal and prevent ground loop hum.

Let your signals flow, naturally and powerfully like a river! The River Series embodies this claim down to the last detail, with high-precision circuitry designed by our award-winning engineers to ensure your sound reaches its destination unadulterated: the heart of your listeners.
That’s exactly what Palmer® stands for. We have been manufacturing audio tools for professional use on stage, in broadcasting and in the studio since 1980. Musicians and sound engineers around the world value our solutions developed in Germany for their unhindered signal flow and pure sound – as crystal clear and vibrant as water! So what was more logical than naming the River Series models after German rivers?
On the map of Germany you can see where the Kyll flows: 127 kilometres through North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhine-land-Palatinate. Thank you for buying the kyll! We hope you enjoy this piece of German engineering.
Be true to your sound!
Yours, the Palmer Team

INTRODUCTION

The kyll Line Isolation Box is equipped with two combo sockets on the input side, which can be assigned with XLR or 6.3 mm jack plugs. The inputs allow the connection of playback devices with balanced or unbalanced connections. The balanced line outputs are equipped with male XLR sockets. There is galvanic isolation between inputs and outputs by means of high-quality transformers. Using the ground lift switch to disconnect the ground connection of inputs and outputs, hum loops and other interfering signals are effectively eliminated. Audio signals can also be transmitted hum-free over long cable runs with the help of the Line Isolation Box.

CONNECTIONS AND OPERATING ELEMENTS

  1. INPUT A / INPUT B
Line inputs with combo jacks (XLR / 6.3 mm jack) suitable for both unbalanced and balanced cabling. Use shielded audio cables to connect a keyboard to the Line Isolation Box, for example.

  2. OUTPUT A / OUTPUT B
Balanced line outputs with 3-pin XLR sockets. Use shielded audio cables to connect the Line Isolation Box to a balanced input of a mixing console or audio interface.

  3. LIFT / GND
Switch for disconnecting the ground connection from the input and output (ground lift). In the non-pressed position, the ground connection is disconnected; the connection is established when the switch is pressed. The ability to prevent a humming loop using the ground lift switch depends on the grounding of the connected device. It is therefore possible that the switch is able to effectively reduce or eliminate humming when it is either up or down, depending on circumstances.

CAUTION: Connecting signal cables can cause considerable noise. Make sure that input channels from mixers and audio interfaces etc. are muted during plugging. Otherwise, noise levels may cause damage.

NOTE: Strong magnetic fields can cause humming. Therefore, do not position the Line Isolation Box near strong magnetic fields (e.g. mains transformer).
