Sensolus GB 3000 Geobeacon
Product Information
Geo Beacons are devices that use BLE signals to locate assets within an area. These signals can pass through concrete walls, which means that assets can be located on the wrong side of a wall. The Geo Beacons have a standard range of around 30 meters for indoor geolocation and can cover an area between a 2-meter and 100-meter radius, depending on the configured signal strength.
Installation Advice
The Geo Beacons can be installed vertically and horizontally with the back facing the mounting surface. It is recommended to install them as high as possible, at a minimum of 1.8 meters above the ground. The device should always remain in the same location and should be mounted with the back facing the mounting surface.
Activation in the Platform
Once the Geo Beacons are properly installed, they need to be registered and configured in the Sensolus platform. Follow the steps below to activate Geo Beacons:
Step 1
-
Sign in to the Sensolus platform and go to the admin section.
-
Select infrastructure. If your Geo Beacons have been
pre-assigned to your account, you will see their serial number in the list. -
Go to the Geo Beacon you want to set the location for.
Step 2
- Give a meaningful name to this Geo Beacon.
- Type in the (approximate) address in the search bar in the map and then zoom in until you can recognize the place where you physically mounted the Geo Beacon.
- Click Add Geo Beacon location and a marker will show, you can move this marker until it shows the exact place where you installed the Geo Beacon.
- Hit Save to finish.
Finally, ensure that your trackers are configured to scan for Geo Beacons. You can do that in the Tracker configuration page or Sensolus support can help you with that.
Product Usage Instructions
Step 1 – Place the Batteries
Take all parts out of the plastic bag and connect your assets to optimize your business processes. Add the batteries to the Geo Beacon.
Step 2 – Get the Serial
- Open the Geo Beacon.
- Add the extra battery to the Geo Beacon.
- Close the Geo Beacon with the small black screws.
- Write down the serial number of the Geo Beacon as you will need it later.
Step 3 – Choose a Location
Identify the area in which your assets need to be geolocated using this Geo Beacon and place the Geo Beacon in the middle ofthat area.
Step 4 – Install the Geo Beacon
Install the Geo Beacon with screws or double-sided tape, following the instructions below:
Installation with Screws
- Closing cap
- Screw
- Dowel
- Holes 5 mm
Installation with Double-Sided Tape
- Double-sided tape
- 83 mm
Step 5 – Verify if the Geo Beacon Works
Use a BLE scanning mobile app (e.g., BLE Scanner or BeaconSET) to verify that the BLE advertisements are discoverable (you willsee the Geo Beacon serial number in the list). You can move around to verify the covered area.
Installation and activation
Step 1 Place the batteries
Take all parts out of the plastic bag. Open the beacon. Add the extra battery to the geobeacon. Close the beacon with the small black screws.
Step 2 Get the serial Make sure to write down the serial number of the
Geobeacon as you will need it later.
Step 3 Choose a location
Identify the area in which your assets need to be geolocated using this
Geobeacon and place the Geobeacon in the middle of that area.
Step 4 Install the geobeacon Install the geo beacon with screws
Install the geo beacon with double sided tape
Step 5 Verify if the geobeacon works Use a BLE scanning mobile app (e.g. “BLE Scanner” or “BeaconSET”) to verify that the BLE advertisements are discoverable (you will see the Geobeacon serial number in the list). You can move around to verify the covered area.
BLE signals of the geobeacons
Sensolus Geobeacons use BLE signals which can propagate through concrete
walls. This means that assets can be geolocated at the wrong side of a wall.
This can be avoided in 2 ways.
Standard setup
Setup with a metal plate between wall and beacon
Setup with reduced TX power
Depending on the configured signal strength, the Geobeacon will cover an area between 2 meter and 100 meter radius.
For indoor geolocation, the standard range of a Geobeacon is around 30 meters.
Installation advice
Sensolus geobeacons can be installed vertically and horizontally with the back facing the mounting surface. All other installations are not recommended.
Height: Install the geobeacon as high as possible, minimum 1.8 meter above the ground.
Position: Remember that a Geobeacon is a fixed device that should always remain at the same location.
Wrong orientation: Geobeacons are mounted vertically or horizontally and only with the back facing the mounting surface.
Activation in the platform: Once your Geobeacons are properly activated and installed, you need to register and configure them in the Sensolus platform.
Step 1
- Sign in to the Sensolus platform and go to the admin section.
- Select infrastructure. If your Geobeacons have been pre-assigned to your account, you will see their serial number in the list.
- Go to the beacon you want to set the location for.
Step 2
Next you will need to configure in the system exactly where you placed each of
your beacons.
- Give a meaningful name to this Geobeacon.
- Type in the (approximate) address in the search bar in the map and then zoom in until you can recognize the place where you physically mounted the Geobeacon.
- Click Add Geobeacon location and a marker will show, you can move this marker until it shows the exact place where you installed the Geobeacon.
- Hit Save to finish.
Finally, you should make sure that your trackers are configured to scan for Geobeacons. You can do that in the Tracker configuration page, or Sensolus support can help you with that.
Once you have activated a Geobeacon, it MUST be associated with a correct location in the Sensolus platform. Failing to do so may result in trackers not being able to determine their location anymore.
