RIVER SERIES

River Series

Let your signals flow, naturally and powerfully like a river! The River Series embodies this claim down to the last detail: featuring high-precision circuits, designed by our award-winning engineers to ensure your sound reaches its destination – the hearts of your listeners.

That’s exactly what Palmer® stands for. We have been manufacturing audio tools for professional use on stage, in broadcasting and in the studio since 1980. Musicians and sound engineers around the world value our solutions developed IN Germany for their unhindered signal flow and pure sound – as crystal clear and vibrant as water! So what was more logical than naming the River Series models after German rivers?

On the map of Germany you can see where the Elder flows: 208 kilometer’s through Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
Thank you for purchasing the elder! We hope you enjoy this piece of German engineering. Be true to your sound!

Yours, the Palmer Team

INTRODUCTION

The elde 2-channel DI box is a professional tool for studio and stage, which converts unbalanced audio signals unaltered into balanced audio signals. The elde DI box is used as a link to connect stringed instruments with pickups – such as electro-acoustic guitars, electric guitars and electric basses, instruments with line outputs, such as keyboards, and speaker outputs of guitar amplifiers – to balanced inputs of a mixing console or audio interface. Audio signals can also be transmitted hum-free over long cable runs with the help of the DI box.
Introduction

CONNECTIONS AND OPERATING ELEMENTS

  1. INPUT 1 / INPUT 2
Audio input with 6.3 mm jack socket.
    A. Connect an instrument using a shielded instrument cable.
    B. Connect the speaker output of a guitar amplifier using a speaker cable. (Tip: Press PAD switch no. 4).
WARNING: Power amplifiers must not be operated in bridge mode on the DI box.
WARNING: If an amplifier is operated using the DI box, the ground connection between the input and output must be disconnected (switch no. 6 in the non-pressed LIFT position).
WARNING: The amplifier power of a connected amplifier must not exceed 120 W at 8 Ohms.
ATTENTION: When using a tube amplifier: there is no tube in the circuit of the DI box circuit!
To prevent damage to the amplifier, before switching on the amplifier, an appropriate guitar speaker or a suitable load resistor at the THRU jack socket must be connected using a speaker cable.

  2. THRU 1 / THRU 2
The input signals are output unchanged via the 6.3 mm jack sockets.

  3. OUTPUT 1 / OUTPUT 2
Balanced audio outputs with male 3-pin XLR connectors. Use a balanced, shielded cable (e.g. microphone cable)
to connect the DI box to balanced inputs of a mixing console or audio interface.

  4. PAD 1 / PAD 2 (Passive Attenuation Device)
Move the corresponding switch to the pressed position to lower the level of the output signal by 30 dB. Lowering
the output level is necessary if the channel input stage of the connected mixer or audio interface is overdriven.

  5. LIFT / GND 1 – LIFT / GND 2
Switch for disconnecting the ground connection of input and output of the corresponding channel (ground lift).
In the non-pressed position, the ground connection is disconnected; the connection is established when the switch is pressed. The ability to prevent a humming loop using the ground lift switch depends on the grounding of the connected device. It is therefore possible that the switch is able to effectively reduce or eliminate humming when it is either up or down, depending on circumstances.

CAUTION: Connecting signal cables can cause considerable noise. Please make sure that the input channel (mixing console, audio interface, etc.), as well as the THRU output, are muted when plugged in. Otherwise, noise levels may cause damage.

NOTE: Strong magnetic fields can cause humming. Therefore, do not position the DI Box near strong magnetic fields (e.g. mains transformer).
